Welcome my friends to the show that never ends! Welcome everyone to the all-new Chilli Studio Newsletter. $ Its been a while since we last produced one and this is something that all of us at Chilli Studios hope will become a regular thing. There is so much going on at Chilli, that we hope that in amongst the opinions, new, art and general randomness, you will find something interesting, thought provoking and who knows‌.even funny.. But before we get into that, here is a brief word from the face that runs the place‌Bob! $

Spotlight on……. Busking
Hi Folks !!! Hi$folks,$hope$you$like$our$fab$ new$look$newsletter,$many$ thanks$to$the$talented$PMX$who$ has$been$an$absolute$diamond$ getting$everything$together.$$ Things$in$Chilli$are$moving$ onwards$and$upwards$with$loads$ of$new$exciting$projects$in$the$ pipeline,$this$includes$a$new$ initiative$developing$within$the$ Byker$estate$involving$the$studio$ and$many$other$major$creative$ partners,$$ As$for$our$swanky$new,$look$ Chilli$Bizarre,$this$has$ blossomed$under$the$steady$ hands$of$the$super$talented$ Terri$and$Kathryn.$Put$this$ alongside$the$everIburgeoning$ timetable$of$regular$activities$ and$its$hats$off$to$all$the$staff$ and$volunteers$for$making$our$ service$so$brilliant.$$ My$next$6$months$focus$will$be$ about$getting$the$studio’s$ future$sustainability$in$place$for$ April$2018$onwards.$As$always,$ we$greatly$appreciate$any$help$ people$offer$sourcing$income$ generating$opportunities,$and$I$ would$personally$like$to$thank$ all$our$many$friends$for$their$ amazing$support$to$date.$

When I was thinking of the subject for this article, I had just spent a very wet Friday huskie sitting and shopping. $
Alas the weather had put paid to the busking aspirations of Newcastle’s finest, anyway back to the point. Tucked safely away in my flat in a monkey onesie, I turned to the interwebs for some guidance and research. A quick google of the phrase ‘history of busking in newcastle’, rewarded my with a fact that I would never have thought true. The one and only Jimi Hendrix, in the early 1970’s took to the streets of Heaton (Chillingham road to be exact), to ply his trade and showcase his talent. This is something that definitely goes in the “What now ?” category of stuff. Finding that out made me think of the buskers of today in a different way. They are something that on most days of the year, you cannot fail to miss. From the extremely well exposed Grey’s monument and Northumberland Street to the equally as exposed, but far quieter quayside and on occasion, indoor busking in Eldon square. Over the course of a year, there is a wide range of busking taking place. Everything from Mr Hendrixs’ own instrument of choice, the guitar, to the northumbrian pipes. There are bands, levitating people, street statues and many more. Although it has not always been the case and even now still isn’t the case, you actually need a licence to busk in Newcastle. Generally, the standard of Busker in the Toon is very high and is a clear sign of the depth of talent that the north-east possesses. It has to make you wonder though… Exactly how many of the artists that ply their trade in the city know that Jimi Hendrix trod the same path? It sort of gives you hope that there’s a chance.

$ 2016 was a year I would rather never have happened. As most of you will know, I lost my dear Mum at the beginning of the year and my sister at the end of the year. Now you might be reading this thinking, “what has this got to do with Chilli Studios ??”. On the day my sister passed, I was faced with the very real possibility that I wouldn’t be able to say goodbye. On what I can only describe as a whim of desperation, I rang Jo (who at this point was the only person I had really spoken to), and asked if the studio had any Audio Visual equipment. To cut a long story short Jo ended up recording my message to my sister. Seconds later the message was sent to my sister. She died four hours later. It was at that point that my world fell apart. $
Like anyone else I was desperate for something that would give me a handle on things that would soothe the pain. In the midst of my darkest times, Chilli Studios became the candle that lit my way. It didn’t happen straight away. The day I decided to go back and thank Jo for doing what she did was the day I decided to stay, and it was the day that I felt the fragments of my life begin to find each other. I could list absolutely everything about the studio and say this is why. But to take any one thing over another is unfair. Chilli Studios is the sum of a lot of very small parts, each as important as the next. All of a sudden I rediscover a talent for poetry and I learn that I like metallic colours on dark paper in amongst a litany of other things, the list goes on. It’s fair to say that Chilli Studios is many things to many people… But to me it is the strength that at times, I don’t think I have. (Pete Mitchell)

I love sunshine and feel the cold, so I'm rarely seen without a cardi. I'm a chatty person and do go on a bit but I'm friendly and won't be offended if if I'm told to pipe down. Ainsley Harriet once kissed me in Tesco in Kingston park.
I've worked in charity services in and around the north east and Cumbria for most of my career and I've meet some truly inspirational people in that time, I'm hoping what I've learned from them and the ideas and enthusiasm I have for the work you do will make me a useful member of the team. I can't wait to get started.”

DEPRESSION I can't get it out of my head “Keep going” he said Well I try I really do try hard you know But getting started you see, was the difficult bit for me. I lay on my sofa for days In a daze Wishing there were no more days like these. But then I recognised it Lorem Ipsum Or it recognised me Depression Exhaustion Being stuck... Nestled$at$the$Byker$bridge$end$of$new$ bridge$street,$is$the$excellent$Chilli$ Bizarre.$ Ran$by$the$mad$as$a$bag$of$frogs$Terri$ and$the$lovely$Kat,$it$is$at$its$heart$a$ café,$serving$a$range$of$eats$from$ Vegan$to$meaty,$tea,$coffee$and$the$ best$Chai$in$the$city.$$ However$as$most$of$us$already$know,$it$ is$so$much$more$than$just$that.$$It$also$ serves$as$the$main$physical$retail$outlet$ for$the$art$produced$in$the$studio.$ The$second$you$walk$in,$you$can$see$ what$is$currently$on$sale.$$Even$then,$for$ such$a$small$space,$the$art$on$sale$ ranges$from$beautifully$painted$ canvases$to$CD’s,$DVD’s$and$books$of$ poetry$to$intricately$crocheted$tea$ cosy’s.$ $ There$are$also$smoothie$bottle$hats,$ which$are$available$for$sale,$with$the$ proceeds$of$which$going$to$AGE$uk.$$ Those$that$are$not$sold$in$the$café$are$ forwarded$to$AGE$uk$for$ distribution/use.$ $ All$of$this$is$in$addition$to$the$book$club,$ which$happens$every$six$weeks$with$the$ next$one$happening$on$June$3rd$ $

And$so$here$we$are$at$the$very$end$of$the$first$issue$of$the$new$Studio$News.$$It$has$been$a$bit$of$a$job$ getting$it$together$but$I$and$the$people$who$helped$me$along$the$way$have$got$there.$$In$the$coming$ months$there$will$be$other$things$included$in$the$newsletter$which$will$further$show$the$diversity$of$ the$talent$here$in$the$studio.$ $
$ But,$it$is$with$the$heaviest$of$hearts$that$we$bid$only$the$very$fondest$farewell$to$our$lovely$Nikki.$$She$ is$leaving$our$little$family$to$go$and$work$for$Social$Services.$$Where$we$have$no$doubt$that$she$will$ have$just$as$much$of$an$impact$on$other$peoples$lives$as$she$has$on$each$of$ours.$$Nikki$has$been$with$ us$for$a$little$over$two$years$and$during$that$time$has$shown$herself$to$be$a$knowledgeable,$ compassionate,$honest$all$round$angel. $ She$will$be$sorely$missed$by$staff$and$members$alike.$ $ Looking$forward,$her$replacement$(whomever$they$may$be)$will$be$welcomed$by$all$of$us$here$at$the$ Looking forward, Carole Hall has joined the Chilli Team to support Nikki’s past role and add her own We$are$all$eager$to$see$how$they$fit$in$and$what$they$can$bring$to$the$many$tables$in$the$studio.$ experience and skill to the new post of Charity Officer.
