Queensgate Brings Primark To Peterborough With news which will transform shoppers’ lives in the area, Queensgate is thrilled to announce its bringing retail giant Primark to the city centre. Following a £20million investment, the centre will see a 930m extension to make room for the fashion retailer, with work due to start in spring 2011. Primark is set to open its doors in November 2012 right in time for the festive season. The hugely popular store offering value shopping will be one of the largest units in Queensgate, showcased over two impressive floors. Stocking the full line of women’s, men’s, children’s and homeware, shoppers will be able to indulge in the all delights they come to expect from Primark’s unbeatable and low cost offering. South Holland Food Festival
Continuing from last year’s successes, South Holland District Council is getting together with the people of the South Holland District to deliver the popular South Holland Food Festival. Running from Saturday 16th July to Sunday 14th August 2011. The festival will include a variety of ‘food themed’ fringe events, promotions and competitions, either organised by the district council, schools and colleges, community groups, businesses, companies, clubs and associations

culminating in the spectacular two day South Holland Summer Food Fair in the town of Spalding. The Food Fair will take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th August 2011, bringing together food, music and cultural providers to create an enjoyable event for the community of South Holland and visitors alike.

Sue Ryder’s Febru-hairy is back!
Once again, Sue Ryder Care is asking local supporters to fi re up their imagination and fundraise around the theme of hair. The charity has renamed the month of February as ‘Febru-hairy’, where you’re encouraged to participate in hairrelated fundraising challenges throughout the month to raise vital funds for Sue Ryder Care at Thorpe Hall Hospice. Fundraiser, Mikey Clarke said; “We’d like as many people as possible to get involved in Febru-hairy as this campaign caters for everybody. You can fundraise as part of a company, school or college, at your local pub or

Christmas was expensive - you owe money on your credit card, your bank account is overdrawn and you are struggling to pay back a loan so what can you do?

Step One – make a list of your debts
• • • •
on’t panic, but it’s important to do something, because the problem won’t just go away. Don’t ignore the people you owe money to (your creditors). Contact them to explain why you’re having problems and follow these steps to help you get back in control of your fi nances.
Before you can tackle a debt problem, you need to collect together information about your aff airs. Make a list of all your creditors with the following information: the name and address of the creditor the account or reference number the amount you owe. It’s a good idea to keep the latest letters for each debt together in one place so that you can easily fi nd them. If you’ve received any court papers or letters that seem urgent, you may need to act quickly. If you’re not sure what you should do next, get advice straight away from an experienced adviser. Once you’ve made a list of all your creditors, you need to work out which ones to deal with fi rst. You need to deal with some debts fi rst before others because the consequences of not paying these debts can be more serious than for other debts. The debts you deal with fi rst are called priority debts. The debts you deal with after your priority debts are called non-priority debts.
Step Two - Prioritise Your Debts, including
Mortgage or rent arrears. If you don’t pay these, you could lose your home Fuel arrears. If you don’t pay these, your fuel could be cut off council tax arrears Court fi nes such as magistrates’ court fi nes for traffi c off ences arrears of maintenance payable to an ex-partner or children. This includes Child Support you owe to the Child Support Agency Income tax or VAT arrears TV licence or TV licence arrears - it’s a criminal off ence to use a TV without a valid licence and you could be fi ned.
Step Three – work out your budget
List all the income and expenses for your household. Be honest and make sure that the amounts are realistic. You can use a budget sheet to help you do this. Under income, include: earnings for your partner and yourself any benefi ts you are paid, including Child Benefi t and tax credits maintenance from an ex-partner for you or your children. Include any Child Support from the Child Support Agency contributions from other members of your family and any lodgers. Think about the ways in which you might earn extra money or increase your income. You may be able to claim benefi ts or tax credits. Under expenses, include: • Housekeeping. Fill in realistic amounts for what you spend on all your expenses, including food, cigarettes

and pet food Housing costs. This should include mortgage or rent, a second mortgage or secured loan, service charges and life or endowment insurance cover attached to your mortgage Council tax Fuel and water charges Telephone charges Travel expenses. Include both public transport and the cost of running a car such as road tax, insurance, and maintenance Insurance such as buildings and contents insurance on your home Childcare costs TV licence and any TV rental costs clothes Any other essential expenses Money you set aside for emergencies.
When you’ve added up all the fi gures, you’ll see if you have any money left over to pay your debts. You may even be able to see if you can make some savings. An advice agency can help you draw up a budget and help you increase your income if this is possible.
Step Four - sort out your priority debts
agreement between you and your creditors about how you’ll pay off your debts. Get more advice from an experienced adviser about IVAs putting all your debts into one loan. This is called loan consolidation. It isn’t usually a good idea to borrow more money to get out of debt and there can be serious disadvantages. Make sure you get advice before you take out another loan. If you have little or no money left after you’ve done your budget, have nothing of value to sell and think your circumstances are unlikely to get better soon, you will have limited options for dealing with your non-priority debts. The options you’ll have are: • asking your creditors to write off your debt • applying for bankruptcy • applying for a Debt Relief Order. This is like bankruptcy but for people who can’t aff ord to make themselves bankrupt. You can apply if you have debts of less than £15,000 and a low income. The application has to be made through an adviser called an ‘approved intermediary’.

Step Five sort out your nonpriority debts
How you deal with your non-priority debts will depend on whether you have any money left over from dealing with your priority debts and paying for essential household expenses. If you have money to spare, you may have several options for dealing with your non-priority debts. You may have the option of: making off ers to creditors yourself asking an Advice Agency or Debt Management Company to make off ers for you applying to court for an Administration Order. You can apply for an Administration Order if you have at least one county court judgment against you and debts of less than £5000 arranging an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA). This is a legal

ational Marriage Week runs from the 7th-14th of February, so to get in the spirit of things we thought we’d give our wedding couples a helping hand with planning that all important day. Whether you’ve recently got engaged or have been engaged for some time, organising your wedding can be one of the most exciting things you’ll ever do. If your wedding is next year, now is the time to get those creative juices fl owing – and with some organisation and inspiration, you can make sure it’s as stress free as possible. And let’s face it – who needs an excuse to have some fun?
Agree a budget - and st ick t o it! Discussing and setting a budget should be your fi rst priority. You need to talk about what you want to spend and what you can realistically aff ord. Be honest and discuss any concerns you might have – remember, you both need to be happy with your decisions!
Do you have any ideas already? If you don’t, it’s time to start brainstorming! Are there any friends’ weddings coming up soon? They’re always good for ideas. Buy a wedding magazine and start tearing out ideas that grab you. Perhaps there is a local wedding show to go to? You’ll fi nd lots of ideas online – and there are some brilliant websites packed with inspirational ideas, latest bargains and forums to discuss ideas. Sometimes a good starting point is to think about what you both don’t want. Remember to ask friends and family – they might have some ideas you’ve not thought of. BUT, remember, this is your day as a couple, so don’t get bullied into taking on other people’s ideas!
You might fi nd it’s easier to decide your budget by breaking the day into ‘key’ sections: wedding attire, venue (ceremony and reception), catering, fl owers, rings, photographer, entertainment, stationery, transport and honeymoon. If family have off ered to help you with costs, have that conversation now – it’s better for everyone to be in the picture, and then you know how much you need to save. Once you know how much you can allocate to each part of the day, you can start to research your options. The trick is to stick to your budget – believe me, it’s far too easy to get carried away with all the options available.

You’ve got plenty of time, so don’t panic. Starting your wedding planning early means you have the luxury of being able to look at all your options – and then again if needs be!

This early on, there’s no point worrying about who’s sitting where at the reception or what your first dance is going to be. You just need to make a start on the basic features of your day. Date – when do you want to get married? If you can pin it down to a certain month, that will help when you get quotes. But remember, some months, like during the winter, are cheaper than others. Midweek is also cheaper than a Saturday. Have you checked with family and friends in case you’ve picked a date that clashes with another family event? Guest List – you don’t need a final number at this stage, but when it comes to getting quotes you’ll need to work on an approximate number. It might also be worth making a decision now on whether to include children into the list – making a rule early on will avoid confusion for everybody. Themes – is there a specific colour or visual theme you want to incorporate into your day? Do you want a relaxed feel or something more traditional? Are there any specific styles that are personal to you as a couple? Venue – religious ceremony, civil ceremony? At home or away? Maybe you fancy ‘the destination wedding’? The choice is endless! Catering – buffet, bbq, sit down meal? Reception – local village hall, pub, hotel, marquee, or something different? A lot of places get booked up early – sometimes a year in advance so you do need to consider this option seriously, especially if you have a particular date in mind. Bridesmaids – if you’re having bridesmaids, how many do you want? Will you be buying their dresses? Once you’ve made your choices, you can delegate work to them. After all, they are your attendants, so you can make them work for the privilege. This also applies to the Best Man! Photographer – do you want traditional or relaxed photos? What about a video? Entertainment – disco, live band, classical music, chocolate fountains, fireworks, highland piper, line dancing, belly dancing… there is something for all tastes and budgets! Transport – limo, classic car, sports car, horse and carriage? Or perhaps you’re thinking of something different? Wedding attire – the men seem to get off lightly here, but as with all things there is more choice the earlier you start to look. For brides, finding that perfect dress can take as long as you want it to, and there’s no harm looking for ideas now. Some dresses need to be ordered, so it’s best to start early. Honeymoon – in most cases, it’s too early to start worrying about this now. But, there’s no harm in looking for ideas now and keeping your 16 SIMPLY HOLBEACH www.simply-holbeach.co.uk
eyes peeled for a bargain. Health and Beauty – it’s time to start looking after your health and making sure you’re in tip top condition for that special day. Healthy eating, exercise, a good skin care routine - maybe even some time for pampering?

Once you’ve discussed these key areas, the next stage is start getting quotes and making visits. Don’t let any one bulldoze you into parting with your money – make sure it’s what you both want (marriage is about compromise, remember!). Once you start parting with money, keep a record of what you’ve paid for and when final payments are due. Why not set up a spreadsheet with everything on it so you can see what’s been paid? It can be very therapeutic to see things being ticked off!
So to summarise, here is a list of ‘essentials’ to tick off with just 12 months to go… • • • • • • •

What’s next?
As the months go down, you’ll need to think about flowers, booking your honeymoon, menus, the wedding cake, rings, hen/stag parties, invitations and wedding lists. But there’s no need to worry about any of that now. Just stay calm and take one step at a time, and you’ll enjoy every minute of your wedding planning!

Each year veterinarians see a rise in poison cases following February 14th, many involving chocolate and lilies; a flower that’s potentially fatal to cats. Follow our advice on what you need to keep out of paws way this February and you’ll be celebrated as a responsible pet owner this month.
A thoughtful bouquet or a single rose...
This Valentine’s your loved one said it with flowers, but what flowers did they choose? Most people don’t realise that all species of lily can be potentially fatal to cats. If you’re one of the lucky ones and have received a gorgeous floral arrangement, delicately sift through it and remove any dangerous flora. If your pet becomes ill and suffers from symptoms such as stomach upset, vomiting or diarrhoea, it’s likely he/she may have ingested an offending flower or plant. And don’t forget that every rose has a thorn! It may be a token of love, but it’s also a thorny attacker for a pet. Animals don’t realise that biting, stepping on or swallowing roses could cause a puncture, which may result in a serious infection. De-thorn your roses far away from your pet.
Forbidden Chocolate
Chocolate contains methylxanthine alkaloids in the form of theobromine and caffeine, which cause constriction of arteries, increased heart rate and central nervous system stimulation. This can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, and increased urination, and can eventually cause excitability, increased respiration and heartbeat, stiffness, seizures, and exaggerated reflexes.

Chilled champagne, a glass or two of wine is all part and parcel of romance, but beware! Spilled wine, half a glass of champagne or leftover liquor can do a great deal of harm to a pet. Being smaller than humans, a little bit of alcohol can cause no end of problems, including: vomiting, diarrhea, lack of coordination, central nervous system depression, tremors, difficulty breathing, metabolic disturbances and even a coma. Don’t leave any alcohol out where your pet may be tempted to lap it up!

Just be careful. Monitor the candles and try to keep them away from any pets in the house. And when you leave the room, put out the fire - or take it with you upstairs!

As surprising as it may be, pets love lingerie —the fancier the better. We’re not kidding! Every year hundreds of dogs and cats undergo extensive surgery to remove panties and bras from their stomachs and intestines.
“Don’t lead them to temptation.” The problem usually begins when your underwear winds up on the floor. Your pet thinks it’s a new toy and sometimes swallows them. Ingested lingerie causes deadly bowel or stomach obstructions and must be surgically removed. Remember to pick up your undergarments before your cat or dog has time to get to them!
A love bite
Most pet owners don’t realise that bad breath is more than a faux pas. It can be the first warning sign of periodontal disease, which left unchecked can actually cause severe problems for your pet. Pet responsibility goes way beyond just feeding and exercising your fury friends. It involves time, training and attention to things you’ve probably never even considered! Whilst Valentine’s Day highlights a whole host of potential hazards, all holidays and seasons bring with them a new set of challenges. Mars Bar CheeseCake Serves 6 - 8

As it is the month of love, Theresa is sharing with you her husband’s favorite dessert that she makes!
Ingredients 3 Medium Mars Bars 100g (3.5oz) Digestive biscuits (9 biscuits) 70g (2.5oz) Butter 125g (5oz) Phildelphia cheese Half teaspoon of cinnamon
Method
To Make the Base: Put the butter in the saucepan and melt it gently on the stove. Put the biscuits into the bowl and crush them with the rolling pin until the look like breadcrumbs. Add the melted butter and cinnamon to the biscuit crumbs, stir them until throughly mixed. Put the mix into a 6” (15cm) fl an ring, spreading it out evenly. Put it in the fridge until cool.
To Make The Topping: Wash out the mixing bowl. Quarter fi ll the saucepan with water, chop up 2 of the Mars bars and put them in the mixing bowl, put the bowl on top of the saucepan, place the pan on the stove and gently melt the Mars bars. Chop the 3rd Mars bar up and put to one side. When the Mars bars have melted very carefully take the bowl off the saucepan, add the Philadelphia chees and chopped up Mars bar, mix well. Take the biscuit base out of the fridge, pour the chocolate mix on top and spread evenly. Put it in the fridge to set for 2-3 hours. For extra choclolatey goodness dust the top with cocoa powder, this is optional!

One of the earliest recorded Licencee’s was William Motley, by trade a tailor, from 1855 - 1864. Previous to William Motley taking over the licence of the Horse and Groom he was the licencee of the String of Horses in Holbeach. The 1861 Census shows him well established at the Horse and Groom with his wife, Sarah, 3 servants and 2 lodgers. Of the servants, one was the housekeeper and the other two were the ostler and groom. This is an indication of the inn’s status off ering accommodation for travellers. The fact that an ostler and groom were employed would suggest that there must have been suffi cient horses for them to attend. There was also a brewery attached. The feature of brewing their own beer at old inns indicated a lively trade. History The premises appear to have been built in the early 1800s. The inn is low roofed with the usual yard, stabling and paddock at the rear. When you’re a full-time mum, dad or grandparent, it can be easy to get caught up in the 24/7 world of parenting, with its never-ending demands and responsibilities. Sometimes you can fi nd yourself feeling isolated, cut off from your social life. Perhaps you fi nd yourself craving some adult conversation.

With temperatures often around freezing point they urgently need our help to survive. Finding food and ensuring that they eat enough of it to build adequate fat supplies to store on the body and burn for energy is the greatest test for wild birds during the Winter and the food we can provide can be the diff erence between life and death. During cold snaps the ground becomes too hard for birds like thrushes, blackbirds, sparrows and starlings to forage and probe .
How to Help Our Feathered Friends •

If you haven’t already got one in your garden,set up a bird table.This can be a base for kitchen scraps, high calorie seed mixes,cooked rice and pasta and even the insides of cooked potatoes. Put out hanging feeders with black sunfl ower seeds,sunfl ower hearts,and unsalted peanuts.These will attract fi nches,tits and if you are patient perhaps a woodpecker! Ensure a fresh supply of water every day (Do not use any antifreeze products). Thrushes, starlings and blackbirds love autumn fruits such as pears and apples.If you live in a more rural location these may attract migrant redwings or fi eldfares into your garden.This Winter has also seen a record infl ux into the countryside and gardens on the east coast of that magnifi cent migrant from Scandinavia The Waxwing. Goldfi nches and perhaps siskins love nyjer seeds which are small and black and have a high oil content. Bird cake and other fat based products such as fat balls are an excellent Winter food and are easily and cheaply obtained. Put up nest boxes to provide roost sites for the smaller birds,who in turn may repay you in the Spring by using them for breeding. If food turns stale or mouldy on the birdtable you are probably placing too much out at once.Stale food is a breeding ground for
some types of salmonella which can be lethal.Large quantities of food scattered on the ground can attract vermin-so be sensible with what you leave out. You may witness a fl urry of activity early morning and late afternoon so be selective when you put food out. Finally ,it is important to continue to feed the birds once you start.You may well be rewarded with seeing birds you have never seen before close up and in your garden. Enjoy them! Creating a Feature Wall By Sue Hessom of Tidy Interiors
If you are looking to generate the ‘wow’ factor in your room but time and money constraints won’t allow for a full make-over, then why don’t you just add a feature wall? After all, decorating is all about creating atmosphere and impact and a feature wall can turn an ordinary room into an outstanding one in no time at all. A feature wall can be introduced anywhere in the house, it’s just down to personal preference – but consider your location carefully; remember the idea of a feature wall is to create maximum impact; it should draw the eye as soon as you enter a room or area, so being creative on a wall that sits behind an open door won’t have the same impact and you’ll end up being disappointed with the fi nished results! Once you have your location, your next consideration is the material you are going to use – wall coverings no longer begin and end with paint or wallpaper so it really depends on individual tastes and abilities:- Paint

The easiest way to create a feature wall is with a fresh coat of paint. If you have a fairly neutral colour scheme this is the easiest option. Just pick out a colour that appears in the accessories or consult a colour wheel to fi nd a tone of colour that will complement your style - don’t be afraid to be bold. You can paint the wall one colour but create a dramatic eff ect by using a paint with a specialist faux fi nish i.e. suede. Or you can add interest by using diff erent fi nishing techniques i.e. rag rolling. If you are feeling really adventurous, generate impact by painting vertical stripes on the wall, just vary the size of the stripes and paint them in alternating colours that compliment the rest of your décor. As long as you have a steady hand, plenty of patience and some masking tape it really is a simple technique to use for a very eff ective look.

The wallpaper might be too much for all walls, but using it on one wall will produce a stunning focal point – just ensure you choose the right colours and design – the last thing you want is to clash with your existing interior.
Other materials
For those who are experimental and into DIY you can be more adventurous and use beautiful coverings made from bamboo, dried grasses, lavish silks, metallic or even woven leather. Reclaimed wood panelling looks fantastic in a bedroom when placed behind headboards, likewise diff erent shaped/coloured tiles look great sat behind the sink or shower area in a bathroom. If that seems like too much work, why not have a look at pre-printed wall mural. They are available in a fantastic range of styles and themes that are guaranteed to generate a real ‘buzz’ with all guests, just search the internet to fi nd a design that you like. They can be printed to fi t the full size of your wall, so are perfect for creating a massive impact on large fl at areas.
