What a gorgeous few weeks of weather we have enjoyed. I have made the most of it with walks along The Vernatts in Spalding, on several occasions we took the dog to Surfleet Reservoir as well as plenty of barbecues and afternoons pottering in the garden.

Keep Spalding Tidy Love Where You Live is all about working to achieve a cleaner, greener town for everyone. The team behind the scheme are working with the Chamber of Commerce initially to run a number of local tidy up campaigns which started in July to help improve our local environment. This isn’t just going to be a one off activity, but more of a year round effort to give us greater pride in our local town and to improve it for all. With this in mind the committee are trying to involve all of the local schools to support this initiative by encouraging students to design a poster to reinforce this message.

The competition invites students from local schools to design a poster to highlight the campaign and make sure everyone continues to help keep Spalding tidy.

Prizes will be available for the winner of each of 3 age categories; ages 5 to 11, ages 11 to 15 and ages 16 to 18.

First Prizes

£50 voucher from Bookmark for the 5 to 11 and 11 to 15 winners, kindly donated by Maples Solicitors and Calthrops Solicitors.

First prize for the 16 to 18 winner will be a day with graphic design company, M and C Design, where the winner will be able to work with designers and produce a t-shirt with their winning artwork on.

Second Prizes

£25 worth of Bookmark vouchers, kindly donated by either Robert Goddard or Bookmark for each age group.

Competition Requirements

To design an A4 poster with a strapline to reinforce the message of keeping Spalding tidy and having pride in our town.

Completed entries should be handed in to: Bookmark, 18-20 The Crescent. The name, address and a contact telephone number of each artist and school should be printed clearly on the reverse of the poster.

Entries should be delivered by the close of business on the 14th of August 2010.

The winners and runners up will be advised directly in the week commencing the 23rd of August 2010.

A display of entries will be shown in the windows of Bookmark, and the winning posters will be used throughout the town in a variety of locations to raise the profile.

Pupils to Cycle in Aid of Charity

Harry Barnett, William Jex and Oliver Maltby are cycling the length of Britain for Cancer Research UK. A trip covering the distance of at least 874 miles! The team are looking for as many donations to the event fund as possible, no matter how big or small for this very worthy cause.

Camilla Smith and Ben Garner shall be accompanying the duration of the trip as support, if it is ever needed.

If you would like to make a contribution, you can collect a donation form from Spalding Grammar School.

Ladies Night Local resident Mary Haresign is embarking on a huge personal challenge in December to climb Mount Killimanjaro. After a serious traffic accident in 2008 Mary was left with a severe knee injury which meant she had to learn to walk again, so this is no small task.

So, two years on Mary has decided to climb the mountain in aid of Everyman, the UK’s leading prostate and testicular cancer campaign. Mary said “My husband is always saying how we all hear about female charities, that do great work, but we very rarely hear about charities for males. So I decided to do the climb as a personal challenge but also shut my hubby up to...my next challenege is to get him involved and for him to put his money where his mouth is!”

Mary is organising a Ladies Night at Holbeach Community Centre on August 20th to raise funds for her climb. There will be plenty of entertainment, demonstrations and chocolate too! If you would like to go along tickets cost just £6 and you can be assured of a fun filled evening.

New Home Composting Education Corner at Springfields A quiet corner of Springfields Festival Gardens is attracting attention from gardeners.

Close to celebrity-designed gardens at the centre is a home composting education corner which is packed with information on how to turn household waste into a free but valuable resource for your garden.

You can peep inside a working wormery and compost bins. You will be able to find out everything you need to know about breathing new life into your garden.

Nutrient-rich compost feeds plants, suppresses plant disease and improves soil structure.

Up to 40 per cent of the waste we normally throw in a bin can be composted.

Compost favourites like tea bags and veg peelings can be supplemented by things like toilet and kitchen roll tubes, wool and even the contents of the vacuum cleaner bag.

The Springfields site also provides information on the role of the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Spalding and its link with the mass-scale composting company Organic Recycling Ltd at Crowland.

The education corner was set up following a conversation between Cllr Howard Johnson, Council Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, and Andy Boyton, Springfields Festival Gardens Head Gardener.

Cllr Johnson said: “We were chatting about how beautiful and well-laid out the gardens were at Springfields and then started talking about how helpful it would be for all gardeners to know how to make their own compost. The information boards are designed to appeal to adults and children. We think children will

Spalding Business Club News The Spalding Business Club meets on the first Thursday of each month at The Loft in Spalding. The Spalding Business Club will meet on the following dates:

The Business Club is a not for profit organisation. The only fee payable is that of £7.50 which covers the cost of a buffet style full English breakfast provided by the Loft.

The format of the meeting is attendees speaking about themselves and their services to the whole group for anywhere between 30 seconds to 2 minutes, followed by a speaker for approximately 30 minutes. The meeting starts at 7.00 am and finishes around 8.30 am. Speakers in the past have included John Hayes MP, Edward Hall from Hills Department Stores and Mike Stokes Chief Executive of The Business Club, they have: shared their business experiences, given tips on best business practice, discussed how the business world may change and how to adapt with those changes and shared advice as to how to network effectively.Rebecca Birkett (Co-Chairperson) told us: “I always come away from the Business Club meeting having learnt something new. I often leave with new ideas and thoughts as to how to do things better, professionally, based on what the speakers have said with regards to their life experience and how to make the most of your business. In June’s meeting I learnt about the 5 P’s of networking: Preparation, Performance, Proper follow-up, Patience and Persistence.

The Business Club meeting is a brilliant opportunity to pick up sales leads, to meet suppliers, raise the profile of your business and to develop collaboration possibilities. It is an effective part of an overall marketing strategy for any business, so please come and join us.”

Free Taster Sessions for Musical Pre-Schoolers Since July 2008, Sarah Gibbins of Music Bugs ® has been providing local pre-schoolers in Spalding, Boston, Grantham, Kirton, Sleaford, and Market Deeping with award winning singing and music classes.

Running her own classes for children from 6 months to 4 years of age, the classes provide a play based environment where children can develop their learning and self confidence while playing with a range of fantastic colourful props and instruments.

With 2 classes now running at the Lighthouse Church in Spalding and some Summer holiday sessions planned in the local area, there are a great choice of venues available to get involved with a Music Bugs class. Kelvin to Abseil in Aid of Charity

Local Electrical Contractor and Ask the Experts Panelist, Kelvin Goulden is undertaking a huge challenge in September to abseil 450ft down Guy’s Hospital in London! Back in 1974/5 Kelvin spent a year working at The Westminster Hospital as an Electrician, part of that time was spent in the Children’s Hospital. This is where Kelvin takes his inspiration to do the abseil, not something all 60 year olds would consider! Kelvin explained: “When I was working there was a young lad in an isolation tent / bubble, who had received a bone marrow transplant. I was informed that a TV program was going to be made about him and that I could help with the electrical supplies for the film crew - The Boy in a Bubble. Once freed from his bubble, he was in a small side room and obviously bored silly from being on his own with his morale at rock bottom. The nurses asked me to sit and chat with him to help with his recovery.

He was allowed home for a weekend soon after, on his return he was full of life and told me he had even played football. I never saw much of him after that but hoped all was well with him. I myself left the hospital soon after but unfortunately I could not remember his name. Many years later when I was on the internet I searched for “boy in a bubble” and came across the Anthony Nolan story, not my lad but the exact same hospital just a few years earlier.”

A couple of years ago Kelvin’s son and some friends were going to abseil off our local hospital for charity (Boston Pilgrim) and as soon as Kelvin heard the Anthony Nolan Trust, he ‘jumped’ at the chance.

When Kelvin turned 60, he had some very generous thoughts provoked from the thoughts of getting too old and then that maybe, just maybe he could help someone else make it to 60 years old too? And that’s where Kelvin made the decision to adbseil down Guys.

Free Swimming Extended South Holland District Council is extending free swimming for under 16s until the end of August.

The council and its partner Leisure in the Community who operate the Castle Pool have always been clear that they could only provide free swimming as long as the Government’s funding was in place. However the decision has been taken to extend the scheme so that young people can enjoy free swimming during the summer holidays.

Cllr Nick Worth, South Holland’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services, says: “At the time the Government announced that it was

stopping the free swimming programme, South Holland had already included it as an integral part of its Summer Fun Brochure.

As this had already gone to print I feel it is only right that we keep this commitment to free swimming for the under 16s for the duration of the summer holidays. I am also pleased to say that we are working with Leisure in the Community to put in place a range of offers that will enable all residents of the district to continue to swim for less than 30 pence a day. In addition, as has always been the case, swimming will remain free of charge

for children aged less than five years old.”

Both organisations hope that the 8000 people that have registered for free swimming will take advantage of the various offers that will be available in late July and will be able to continue swimming at the Castle Pool.

Buying over the internet W

hen you buy goods over the internet from a UK based company, you have the same rights as if you had bought them from a shop. The laws say the goods must: match their description. This means they must be as described by the seller. This includes any description on the label and be of satisfactory quality. This means the goods must meet the standards that any reasonable person would expect. This includes their condition, appearance and finish. The goods must also be fit for their purpose, which includes what you would normally expect from the goods in question and also anything that you have specifically pointed out for the seller.

You may have additional rights when you buy over the internet, including the right to: clear information before you decide to buy, including the name of the seller and the price of the goods, including any ‘extras’ like VAT or delivery charge. If you pay any money before the goods are delivered, the seller must also give you their full postal address. This information must be written and can be in a letter, fax, e-mail or on the website; and cancel your order at any time up to seven working days after you received the goods and get your money back, although you might have to pay for the return of the goods. You cannot cancel if, for example, the goods were made to order, perishable, newspapers, or software, audio or video recordings which have been unsealed. You may also not be able to cancel if you have a service (for example the installation of a fitted kitchen) which you agree to have completed before the seven day cancellation period is up; and have the goods delivered within 30 days of your order unless you and the seller agreed otherwise. If the seller later realises they cannot deliver within this time, they must tell you and give you the option of cancelling and getting a full refund; and protection from fraud if you pay by a credit, debit or store card. If someone makes dishonest or fraudulent use of your payment card, you can cancel the payment and the card issuer must refund all the money to your account. You must inform the company that issues the card as soon as you suspect that someone else is using the card.

These rights do not apply, for example, when buying financial services, timeshare agreements, services such as accommodation, catering or leisure services, food or drink from a delivery service, or goods at an on-line auction. If you used your credit card to pay for the goods and they cost more than £100 and less than £30,000, the credit card company may have equal liability, even if the company is not based in the UK. When you buy goods over the internet, your rights depend on what the law says in the country where the company is based. If the seller is based in a European Union country, you may have similar rights as if the company is UK based.

What to do if the goods don’t arrive?

If the goods aren’t delivered by the agreed date or within thirty days, you have the right either to cancel the order and get your money back, or ask for a replacement.

Your rights if the goods are faulty

Refund

If the goods are damaged when they are delivered or are substantially different from their description on the website, you are entitled to ask for a full refund, including the cost of all postage and packaging. Faulty goods are not subject to the return time limit, but you must contact the seller within a reasonable period.

Replacement or repair

If the goods are faulty and you return them promptly you don’t have to agree to a replacement or repair. If you have had the goods some time before you notice the fault, you would normally have lost your right to a refund and would be entitled to have the goods replaced or repaired.

The repair should be carried out within a reasonable time and restore the goods to a satisfactory condition. If the goods cannot be replaced or repaired, you would be entitled to a refund or the cost of buying the goods elsewhere. If you have had the goods some time, the seller may be entitled to offer you less than the purchase price to take into account the use you have had from them.

Compensation

You may be entitled to compensation if: The contract has been broken (breach of contract), for example the goods don’t match their description or are not of satisfactory quality or fit for their

purpose; or you have incurred additional expenses or inconvenience because of breach of contract or negligence Someone has been injured because the goods were unsafe. In such circumstances you should contact Consumer Direct on 0845 404 0506 before returning the goods to the seller. Always take legal advice before deciding whether to accept an offer of compensation for personal injury; or the seller made a false statement about the goods to persuade you to buy; or you have accepted a repair which has turned out to be unsatisfactory.

The amount of compensation you are entitled to will depend upon the seriousness of the breach of contract and could include the cost of replacing the goods or having the goods repaired.

How to solve your problem

Once you have decided what your rights are, contact the seller. The following steps should solve your problem: • Stop using the goods • Find your proof of purchase eg A credit card statement, copy of your email order or confirmation you received from the seller • if someone has been injured or you think that the trader may have committed a criminal offence (see above), contact Consumer Direct on 0845 404 0506 • Contact the seller and the credit company, if applicable, as soon as you discover the fault. If you ring or email, make a note of what was said. Follow it up with a letter and enclose copies of your proof of purchase. Explain what the problem is calmly but firmly and ask for what you want, a full refund, replacement, repair or compensation • Write to the owner/manager of the company repeating your complaint and the steps taken to resolve it. Say you are giving them fourteen days to resolve the problem after which you will consider taking legal action. Send the letter by recorded delivery with a copy to the head office of the company, if there is one. Keep copies of all your letters and a note of any phone conversations you have in connection with the problem • If the seller doesn’t respond, refuses to do anything, or makes a final offer you are unwilling to accept, your only other choice is to go to court. Remember court is your last resort. Before starting court action you need to consider whether you have sufficient evidence. You also need to find out if the seller is solvent. It is not worth suing someone who has no money. Yes your house insurance will cover the phone whilst it is in the home or garden, I would just check that your policy covers accidental damage to ensure that you have the widest cover, I would expect this to be the case. It is also likely that your policy will provide cover for items removed from the home, including your phone, on a worldwide basis, but again worthwhile checking. One noteable feature of the mobile phone insurance market is that it is a flat rate per item and does not take into account the area that you live and often the amount of times you have claimed in the past. Your house insurance will be rated on your own circumstances and based on a rural location assuming that you live locally, rather than a city location.

The Employment Rights Act 1996 requires employers to provide a written statement of particulars of employment within two months of the start date. This is often known as a Section 1 Statement. The Act stipulates a detailed list of key or important terms that must be expressly covered. It is possible that a letter of engagement might be sufficient but as a matter of best practice you could provide a comprehensive contract after the commencement of employment.

Health I have recently developed a large ‘sore’ on my leg which almost looks like a large blister, it’s about 8cm across. I am in my 70’s and take various tablets. I don’t seem to get any answers from the doctors or nurses, any ideas what it could be?

I am sorry to hear about your “sore”. Breakdown in skin, which can be fragile, can have a number of causes including infection, inflammation, diabetic ulcers, poor circulation, allergic reactions and bites, to name but a few. If it is not healing despite advice and treatment from your GP, perhaps if you talk to your GP again and ask if they think it is a good idea for you to see a Dermatologist, who is a specialist consultant in skin, you can get to the bottom of it. It does, however, often take a long time to heal.

I am hoping to have sunken lights put into my ceiling, would it be something I could do myself and if so how easy is it? If not, is it a major job?

There are various types of recessed ceiling lights from the large Brass Eyeball RO80 type spotlights fitted in many kitchen ceilings to the more modern 12volt lights fitted with transformers and 35/50W Tungsten spotlights also the 240volt version GU10 Tungsten spotlights. Add to these the latest energy saving models including LED lights this gives a vast selection.

The installation of these fittings does vary and the manufacturers installation instructions should always be read thoroughly and followed correctly.

Points to remember • If the work area is in a Kitchen, Bathroom, or Garden Building or a complete new circuit from the Electrical Distribution Board (fuse board) you have to inform Building Control before work is started. Or use a Registered Domestic installer who will take care of notification for you when they carry out the work Now the tricky bit • Position of lights - Most lights run at quite high temperatures and have to be at least 50mm away from any wooden joists or combustible building materials • You have to cut the holes in the ceiling exactly to the size in the instructions • All terminations of cables have to be in proper joint boxes( no connector blocks/ choc blocks with tape round) • All bare earth cables must be sleeved in Green and yellow and connected together in a proper terminal even if the light does not require an earth • 12Volt extra low voltage does not mean smaller cable it can mean larger cables in some instances What you will need depending on how many and where they are being installed is: • Proper fire rated fittings that comply with the building regulations Part B Fire Safety, Part E Sound Resistance, Part C Moisture Resistance, Part L Energy Efficient • Insulation Fibreglass in roof spaces - Some fittings are designed to fit under fibreglass but the manufacturer’s instructions must be followed Recessed lights can be installed but to do it correctly and avoid costly mistakes and or danger you would have to be a very gifted DIY’er follow all instructions to the letter and have a good understanding of the current Regulations BS7671 also a sound electrical knowledge.

Please remember the word professional means someone who can and does do the job quickly, efficiently, safely, and best of all makes it look very easy. But do not be fooled, what often looks easy usually takes many years of training and experience to carry off.

How to keep your pooch happy and healthy

As the UK begins to experience the hottest summer since records began (although they say that every year!) and we start to enjoy the great outdoors, there are a few things to consider so our four legged friends can enjoy it too!

Signs of heatstroke

Some of the signs of heatstroke include, but are not limited to: • Excessive panting • Rapid breathing • Excessive drooling • Dark or bright red tongue or gums The concerns we have for ourselves during the hottest months of the year also • Staggering apply to our pets. Make sure he gets creamed We are all aware that we need to use sun cream to avoid sunburn and the same is true for your dog – particularly if he has short hair, white fur or pink skin.

Limit your pet’s sun exposure during the day if you can. If he’s outdoors make sure he has access to plenty of shady areas to rest. And use high factor sunscreen for your pet, which is especially important on the ears and nose.

You may think shaving your dog during the summer is a good idea, but it can actually do more harm than good, making him more susceptible to sunburn. If you and your vet decide shaving your pet is best, try to do it as soon as possible so the hair has time to grown in a bit before the hottest days arrive.

Back to School The Essential Guide to saving money and providing all your child needs The shops are full of ‘essentials’ for the new school year, and your children will have their own ideas of what they can’t do without. We look at how you can please the kids as well as the teachers without breaking the bank .

School uniform

School uniform is something that parents assume they will buy on special offer. Like Easter eggs, if there isn’t a three-for-two promotion on school shirts, or something similar, shoppers will go elsewhere.

Look out for Teflon-coated fabrics if you have a big family and want to pass school uniforms on from one child to the next. Teflon makes fabric more playground-resistant and clothes will not stain as readily.

State primary schools do not strictly enforce uniform policy and often the right coloured sweatshirt will do just as well as a more expensive, regulation one. It is the governing body of a primary school that is responsible for uniform policy but, ultimately, dress code is a voluntary agreement between the parents and the school. Pens, pencils and pencil cases

Classroom equipment needs to be functional, rather than fun. Teachers can be strict about what they allow in the classroom. Items like metal pencil cases are sometimes banned because they are too noisy and, when they fall onto the floor, the contents go flying.

If you want to be teacher’s pet, choose a fabric pencil case, either natural or plastic, with a zip that is large enough to hold a pencil, pen, colouring crayons, ruler, rubber and pencil sharpener. Teachers often dictate what children write with - usually a pencil to begin with and then a blue or black roller ball or ball point pen for older children.

Make sure the rubber is big enough to work well: erasers shaped like a big pebble are ideal. For children who enjoy art a good set of first crayons will last them, something fairly chunky makes it easy to hold and hopefully will ensure they don’t snap!

The choice of stationery is huge, but what do children actually need?

Primary Schools all have literacy and numeracy hours, which allow children to learn at their own pace. This means kids have to do less structured, textbook work and more is produced on loose bits of paper.

Why not get an A4 document box folder which is ideal for storing lots of work.

Keeping a diary has gone out of fashion but an alternative is to give children a notebook. Research has shown that children are encouraged to write if they have a notebook that is theirs and in which they can write whatever they want - swear words, jokes, lists of names of people they like, love or hate.

Backpacks

School bags are getting bigger. The latest designs even include foldaway wheels for trundling heavy loads. Several retailers have launched new school bags with foldaway inline skating wheels and telescopic handles. While fun - this kind of mobile bag could spell trouble along a school corridor and will set you back about £40.

Alternatives for heavy loads are classic backpacks, made from waterproof, rip-proof material with padded shoulder straps. For younger children, you may want to consider a fun school bag – maybe a cute animal theme, the latest action hero or their favourite cartoon character.

Family Life The Early Years Foundation Stage I hope that you have enjoyed reading about the different outdoor play activities and ideas i have been writing about over the last few months. Thank you again to all the people who have got in touch with me about their own outdoor play experiences. Last month I

talked about den making and at the nursery we have been fortunate to receive another exciting collection of resources and equipment to use with the children and help to support den making and construction play with them. By providing open ended resources, we as adults can help to sustain the children’s interests with endless opportunities for development and learning. The children were given boxes, plastic crates, poles, fabric, carpet tiles, pegs, string and resources that would help them to construct dens and create role play experiences using their own imagination and ideas. The adults role is to play along side, supporting the children’s learning and development by getting really involved in what they are thinking and doing.

My team of staff are trained to observe the play and development and relate it back to The Early Years Foundation Stage.

The EYFS is a framework for children’s development in the early years of a child’s life. As part of the four themes in the EYFS our team support the Early Learning goals in the following areas of learning and development. All the outdoor play experiences i have focused on will help to support every child’s development and work towards achieving these early learning goals.

• Commumication, language and literacy.

• Personal, social and emotional development.

• Problem solving and reasoning.

 • Physical development.

• Knowledge and understanding of the world.

Many parents and carers may recognise some of these goals from their children’s school reports, some may seem very obvious in relation to childrens learning.

By actually taking a step back and letting the children problem solve, use their own thoughts and ideas, we as adults can help support and extend our children’s learning as much as practitioners who work with children in schools and nurseries. EVERY EXPERIENCE MATTERS!!! The children who attend my nursery were observed using skills that supported all six learning goals. They worked together and helped friends, they measured and calculated spaces, they problem solved and talked about what they were doing and why. The younger children where able to take part in something new and just simply have fun and experience muti- sensory learning.

SOUTH LINCS COMPETITIVE SWIMMING CLUB

Swim, Learn, Challenge, Socialise, Compete SLCSC was established in 1977 and is still going strong today!

Swimmers young and old enjoy the success of the club. It’s an ASA registered competitive swimming club based at the Castle Sports Complex swimming pool in Spalding. Its run by a volunteer committee with qualified, volunteer coaches and one paid Head Coach. The club has also recently achieved ‘Swim 21’ Accreditation - a status showing that SLCSC is effectively managed.

SLCSC provides an enjoyable environment in which to help swimmers fulfil their potential. We are also proud to be able to give swimmers the opportunity to be coached by an Olympic swimmer at swim clinics. Ross Davenport, an Olympic swimmer himself even made the special trip over from his club at Loughborough University to present us with our Swim 21 Accreditation.

We are proud of our swimmers and hope to support them for many years to come; unfortunately this does require funds that cannot be secured by membership fees alone. Grants are few and far between and swimming does not seem to be eligible for many, or attract sponsors like more high profile sports. We need sponsors at various levels and, if being associated with a club that promotes sport, teamwork and personal development is something that interests you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

SLCSC holds an annual competition ‘The Tulip Open Meet’ where 350+ swimmers from across the country come to compete, many of whom camp on the sports field. This is our annual fundraising event held during the same weekend as the Spalding Flower Parade, a welcome attraction for all the swimmers, their families and supporters. 2009 saw the club celebrate their 25th Anniversary of this event. 2010 saw us win ‘TOP CLUB’ a title we have strived to get back for 7 years! We would like to thank again, the sponsors listed on our website for supporting this event.

Coaching session at SLCSC

We currently have 100+ swimmers aged 4 years and above. SLCSC welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities. Members learn to swim and move through the squads to our competitive squads, where they get the chance to enter competitions. It’s a great way to improve personal goals, meet new friends and one day maybe even become a Champion Swimmer too!

Many members compete regularly in local, regional and national competitions. Several golds and silvers were achieved at Lincolnshire County Championships this year. Last year one swimmer competed in the East Midlands Regional Disability Sport England Regional Competition and was nominated for Young Disability Sports Woman of the Year at the Lincolnshire Sports Awards. She has won 5 ‘golds’ in the Junior National Disability Champs and has also raced in the British International Disability Champs! Another swimmer has made her mark for the last 3 years at the National Age Group Championships. This young lady was seeded 3rd fastest 1500m swimmer in the country last year for the 12yrs age group.

We eagerly await this year’s results as she attends Nationals soon.

It’s not always about the swimming though! We have an active social side to our club and get together for fun days out for the whole family, quizzes, discos and karaoke, and we have our own clubhouse with a merry band of volunteers who cook up a

Sheltered Housing Schemes

The Council provides sheltered housing throughout the district to meet the requirements of older people. It provides an environment which allows residents to keep their independence in homes which are suited to their needs.

In the case of an emergency, help is provided either through the Scheme Manager or the- 24-hour emergency alarm system. The Council has nearly 1000 dwellings located at 28 schemes throughout the district from small groups of 10 dwellings to larger sites covering over 100. All Schemes have access to a nearby community centre. There are three secure door entry schemes in the district (Spalding, Pinchbeck and Crowland) which offer ground floor and first floor flats and bedsits for which we do not currently have a long waiting list. In fact, there are vacancies in Trinity Court, CrowIand and Nene Court, Spalding. A viewing can be arranged by contacting the Supported Housing Team.

Anyone can apply for sheltered housing provided they are over 60 years old and either not in employment or not working more than 16 hours per week. Should you currently be in a council property, in particular if you are releasing a family home, there could be help at hand to make your move as smooth as possible. There could also be some financial assistance available. Please enquire about our Downsizing Scheme.
