GUIDE TO GIVING Philanthropy and Children’s Hospital Colorado
GUIDE TO GIVING: PHILANTHROPY AND
CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL COLORADO
Trey, patient
A MESSAGE FROM STEVE WINESETT At Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation, we believe that families who need specialized children’s healthcare deserve the best care possible. As our region’s only nonprofit pediatric hospital, Children’s Colorado is an essential community resource, and we are constantly in awe of the opportunities in children’s healthcare that lie ahead. Our role is to help educate our community about everything that Children’s Colorado does for children today, and everything we will do tomorrow, as we seek philanthropic support for the future of children’s health. Your partnership is essential, and even pivotal, in helping more children live healthy lives. Consistently ranked among the nation’s top hospitals for kids, Children’s Colorado provides the full range of care to more infants, children and teens than any other hospital in our community. Over time, the hospital has developed a constellation of strengths that sets us apart, positioning us to provide greater care for the children of our community and beyond, now and in the future. Along with cutting-edge research and innovative programs in education and advocacy, we are gathering momentum each day to transform children’s health. As Children’s Colorado grows to meet our community’s needs, we are careful to use every dollar we receive to improve the lives of the children and families we serve. There are many ways to support the hospital’s efforts. Whether your gift is large or small, one-time or recurring, part of your estate plan or the result of a successful event, every gift helps Children’s Colorado provide better care for kids. 2
This Guide to Giving is designed to help you become familiar with your choices and, I hope, help you identify the ones that are right for you. Right from the start, we want you to have all the information and informed advice you need about how to make a gift and how that gift can benefit children and families. We want you to feel confident that you are choosing the best way to support Children’s Colorado. Tremendous possibilities are within our reach. At Children’s Colorado, we are inspired by the potential that lies ahead and we are grateful to our generous philanthropic community for helping us improve the lives of children. Thank you for considering a gift to our hospital. Sincerely,
Steve Winesett President and CEO Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation

WAYS TO GIVE:
ANNUAL GIVING When you make a gift to Children’s Hospital Colorado, your gift can change the lives of the patients and families we serve each day. Making a charitable contribution by cash, check or credit card is an easy way to support Children’s Colorado. If you itemize gift deductions on your income tax return, you may be able to receive a tax deduction for the full value of your gift, and you will know that your contribution will help improve the care Children’s Colorado provides to children around the Rocky Mountain region and beyond. Annual donations can include: • One-time donation • Recurring donation (automatic monthly payments) • Gifts to support the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit • Multi-year pledge – paid in installments over multiple years • Stock gifts • Tribute gifts (to honor an occasion or someone special) • Company donation match Regardless of size, every gift to Children’s Colorado makes a difference. childrenscoloradofoundation.org

Pay tribute to the important people in your life with a gift to Children’s Colorado. Tribute gifts can honor a teacher, parent, dear friend or caregiver, celebrate a birthday, wedding or special anniversary, or, remember a loved one who has passed. Each gift you make to honor a special person or event can help us improve the lives of children and families.
Stock Publically-traded securities are great assets to donate. They are easily valued without an appraisal and easy to transfer. Donating appreciated securities before they are sold typically results in a tax advantage. A tax deduction is normally allowed based on the market value of the securities at the time of the gift. Since the deduction is based on current value, rather than cost, no tax is paid on the appreciation.
Real estate A charitable contribution of real estate – whether it is your personal residence, a vacation home, a farm, commercial real estate or vacant land – will give you numerous advantages. Gifts of appreciated property typically qualify for an immediate tax deduction and result in the avoidance of tax on appreciation. The amount of the deduction for a contribution of real estate is normally valued at the current market value of the property.
