I’M KA RUN A , AN D TH I S I S MY STORY. .. I was born into a sharecropping family in South Asia, so money was always tight. After floods wiped out our crops two years in a row, we reached a new level of poverty. We were starving, and my parents could only take out so many loans. That’s when a man came to our village and convinced my Dad to send me to work in a rock quarry. He promised good food and pay, plus visits home. It seemed like the only option for survival, but it was all a lie. The work was impossible, the supervisors brutally abusive, and the food even less than I got at home. I got weaker and sicker each day. I truly believed I would die without ever
seeing outside that pit again, but then you came into my life. The team you support rescued me and brought me to The Children’s Home. Suddenly, I was safe and getting good food, medical care, counseling, and a chance to attend school. It was a
complete turnaround—f rom near death to vibrant life. I’ve lived here for a few years, and the team is still looking for my family. Until then, I’m working to build a better future. I’m studying hard and would like to begin a vocational training course in tailoring soon. Then I can
start giving back and saving up to become a nurse.
