THE ISLAND MUSIC CENTER
Ten years ago a small group of music teachers on Bainbridge Island founded the Island Music Teachers Guild. Dedicated to providing quality music instruction, the organization has now grown into a thriving community music school with regular office hours and staff to welcome you. It is an accessible music resource center for all music lovers that brings the community together through music with events every week throughout the year, concerts, camps, recording facilities an informative website, weekly e-mail newsletter and bulletin boards. The Center facility is a 10,000 sq ft building in Rolling Bay on Bainbridge Island, with teaching studios, classrooms, performance spaces, recording facilities, music library, and comfortable community gathering places.

Our philosophy of music education is to promote the concepts of musicianship and the value of applying these skills to benefit to your lifestyle. Important concepts of musicianship include technical competency, general music literacy, underlying theoretical structures, sight reading, ear training, exposure to relevant literature, opportunities to perform and play in ensembles, opportunities to participate in competitions and exams, selection and care of musical instruments, the importance of practice and self-learning.

S T U D E N T R E C I TA L S
Performing is central to the IMC music education experience. Open to family and friends, student recitals are held throughout the year to spotlight accomplishments and progress. Each instructor holds one or two student recitals per year. In addition, IMC offers all students the opportunity to perform in the “Maverick Open Recital Series�, held on the 3rd *Sunday afternoon of each month. The Maverick Recitals provide a regular opportunity for students of various instruments to share the stage with others, performing either solo or in ensembles. *Check our website for exact schedules.

Youth Classes SMART STRINGS — BEGINNING ENSEMBLE For 3rd – 6th grades Friendly, small-group lessons in Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:15 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. Instructor: Leah Gowers [leahgowers@wwdb.org] Tuition: $250

SMART BRASS — BEGINNING ENSEMBLE For 3rd – 6th grades Toot your horn! Lessons for Trumpet & French Horn Learn to play a brass instrument in a small, friendly group. Wednesdays, 4:30 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. Instructor: Margaret Tufft [mtufft@oz.net] Tuition: $150

This is a short course designed for all music students seeking to improve their music sight-reading skills. The course runs for 6 weeks and uses singing and clapping as a means to developing the reading of rhythm and pitch. The class is suitable for all ages. Mondays, 4:15 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. Instructor: IMC Faculty Tuition: $60

D I G I TA L A U D I O S U M M E R : 6 week course (6 x 2-hour lessons) on a variety of electronic music and recording projects. CHAMBER ENSEMBLES
Open to all orchestral instruments, enjoy playing in a small chamber ensemble (grouped by ability). Existing ensembles are welcome to join. Prerequisites: Able to read music and basic skills on your instrument. Tuesdays, 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. FLUTE CHOIR
A blended “group” sound, focusing on tone, color, intonation, and vibrato is the hallmark of flute choir. Sessions cover flute basics, posture, breathing and technique. FIDDLE GROUP

Drop-In Workshops
Musicians, beginners to experts, meet, play, and share your interests at one of our informal workshops. No registration needed, just “drop-in”. IMC Facilities

IMC facilities are available for rehearsals, piano or instrument practice, concerts or group events. Consider IMC for your next conference, business meeting or private party; there is plenty of space, tables, chairs and amenities. You can rent space in our studios, classrooms, or performance hall — all at affordable rates. Drum kits, pianos and PA are available. Prices for private or band rehearsal or *small group use are as follows. Studios: $10 per hour Classrooms: $12 – 16 per hour Concert Hall: $25 per hour (includes use of kitchen) Book the concert hall and promote your own concert at the IMC. $60 booking fee + $25 per hour (minimum 4 hours) or 25% of door receipts Use of Grand Piano $15 per session Use of back projection $15 per session *Concert pricing applies for groups of 25 and over.

RECORDING
IMC offers digital 24 bit, 96 kHz capable recording of live performances and layered multi-track with PC-based processing equipment. With great playing spaces and knowledgeable staff, the IMC is a great choice for your next recording project from demos and audition recordings through to fully produced CD’s ready for duplication. We can also help with the following: Audio cleanup of old recordings Transfer of Cassette or Vinyl to CD CD Duplication & Publishing
MUSIC PRODUCTION
With our resources and the combined knowledge of our staff and faculty, we can provide both technical and creative support for your music projects including: Score printing, transposition, part extraction MIDI music creation Music to Video Voice-over COSTS: Recording or Production with technical support: During business hours: $40 per hour + $10 per session set-up fee After 6:00 P.M. or weekends: $20 per hour surcharge Production Studio with minimal tech support: $20 per hour Recording prices include use of recording spaces, two audio CD’s, (and data CD if required) Rates for other Music Production projects on a per-project basis
