A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD

A message from the Head

It is a pleasure to introduce Chigwell School’s inspection report for 2026.

Following a full inspection across the whole school - spanning Pre Prep, Prep, Senior School and boarding - inspectors have confirmed that Chigwell meets all required standards across the five key areas assessed. Within this framework, a ‘significant strength’ is rarely awarded, recognising a particular aspect of provision with a clear and exceptional impact on pupils. We are therefore especially pleased that Chigwell has received this recognition for the integration of our cohesive “wellbeing, co-curricular and student leadership programmes” - which inspectors describe as promoting “a strong sense of community and belonging among pupils, based on trust and mutual respect”.

This recognition goes to the core of what makes Chigwell special. It reflects a school in which pupils are not only supported but known; where they are encouraged to take initiative, to contribute, and to grow in confidence within a culture built on trust and mutual respect. The report also describes an inclusive environment that gives pupils “the space and opportunity to forge strong relationships and develop significant levels of personal initiative and responsibility, as well as lifelong skills”.

Central to this report is a picture of pupils who think deeply, make connections and engage critically with their learning, which reflects teaching that is consistently thoughtful and challenging. The quality of relationships between staff and pupils underpins this, building the confidence with which pupils “take risks that support their overall academic progress.”

I am pleased that the report reflects momentum Inspectors recognise the impact of recent developments and the clarity of the school’s direction, highlighting a “culture of high professional confidence” among leaders and a shared commitment to continued improvement. It affirms the strength of our community, our vision and the impact of our work - and marks a point on a longer journey as we build towards 2029 and beyond.

We are grateful to the inspection team for the professionalism and insight they brought to their work, and to our staff, pupils and families whose openness and authenticity gave them such a strong understanding of the school.

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”
