Historic building techniques

Carpentry & Joinery students explored traditional craftsmanship during a specialist training day delivered in partnership with the Sussex Heritage Trust. Held at the Weald and Downland Living Museum – also a filming location for the BBC’s The Repair Shop – the experience introduced students to historic building techniques. Using traditional tools, students learned methods dating back over 300 years before applying their skills to construct a structural wall plate. The hands-on experience provided valuable insight into heritage construction and the foundations of modern carpentry practices.
