A Levels Subject-based level 3 qualifications, A Levels are ideal if you want to study more than one subject, as you can normally pick two or three subjects. They are studied across two years and are graded A*-E, with your grades being determined by your final exam results at the end of your second year.
T Levels These qualifications have been developed with employability in mind – helping you to build the skills industry need. T Level qualifications are equivalent to three A Levels and are studied across two years. You’ll receive split learning, spending roughly 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on an industry placement. You can discover more about T Levels on page 30.
For more information on our apprenticeships, see page 32.
Level 2
Vocational courses, which include UAL, City & Guilds and BTEC diplomas, are great for students who prefer practical learning – and they are highly respected by employers. They relate to a particular profession, area of work
Level 2 vocational qualifications are a good progression route onto level 3 courses for students who may not meet the entry requirements, giving you practical training in your chosen skill or profession. A
or technical skill. You’ll study one subject, gaining the skills and knowledge you need for that chosen occupation. You’ll be taught in our specialist facilities by our fantastic staff – all industry experts.
level 2 qualification is similar to having GCSE grade equivalents at grades 4 or higher.
Vocational courses can be taught at different levels (depending on subject area and course availability), including:
Level 1
Level 3 Level 3 extended certificates are equivalent to one A Level, diplomas are equivalent to two A Levels, while level 3 extended diplomas are equivalent to three A Levels. How you’ll be assessed will vary depending on the specific courses. Generally, it will be through a combination of practical assessments, projects, coursework and tests throughout the duration of your course.
Suitable for students who haven’t quite achieved the entry requirements for a level 2 course or higher, these courses will give you a grounding in your chosen subject and help you to progress onto level 2 courses. Generally speaking, a level 1 qualification is similar to having GCSE grade equivalents at 1-3.
Entry Level An entry level vocational course generally has no, or low, formal entry requirements, and can be ideal for starting your training while developing your maths and English skills.

Level 3 qualifications While most students study three A Levels, you can also choose from a number of applied general level 3 qualifications or AAQs (Advanced Academic Qualifications). You can study these alongside one or two A Levels to give you added flexibility. All these qualifications earn UCAS points so can help you on your way to university.
Choosing the right subjects With so many subjects to choose from, getting the right mix of A Levels can be confusing. There are a few things to consider to help you make the right choice for you.
Entry requirements and course information are correct at the time of publication. As part of our ongoing curriculum review, entry requirements for some courses may be subject to change. Please visit our website or contact our admissions Team for the most up-todate information before applying.
Do you know what you want to do in the future? Look at the entry requirements for the university or higher education course or apprenticeship that you want to do. Does it require specific subjects at A Level? You’ll be able to find this information on university websites or using the UCAS course search.
What have you studied and enjoyed? Think about building on subjects you have studied before, considering ones you have enjoyed or have a passion for!
Find a balance Try to choose subjects that reflect your abilities, strengths or interests!
Ask yourself ‘why?’ If you want to choose a new subject, take a minute to think about why you want to study it. Is it something you’re interested in but haven’t been able to study before? Do you know what it’s about? Is it relevant to what you want to do?
What if you’re still not sure?
Additional qualifications
If you don’t know what you want to do, that’s OK! But do choose your subjects carefully. Our facilitating subjects (marked ‘F’) will help you to keep your options open. Speak to our advisors for more information and advice.
Alongside your A Levels, you can also add exciting qualifications to complement your studies and support your entry to study higher education.
Applying for A Levels
available on our website. Check your subject combinations on the timetable matrix. This is available on our website or at our open events. Once we receive your application, we’ll invite you to an A Level interview. During your interview, our staff will guide you with your choices and the right number of A Levels for you, based on your abilities, interests and future plans. Once you have been offered a place, you’ll be invited to a taster day. Visit chichester.ac.uk/alevels for more in-depth information, or come along to one of our open events.
The EPQ develops independent research and study skills which many universities regard highly.
Entry requirements For all of our A Level courses and level 3 courses, you’ll need to have achieved five GCSEs at grades 9-4, including both maths and English language. Certain subjects will require a minimum grade 5 or 6 in a relevant subject at GCSE. You’ll find more information about specific requirements on the course pages on our website. You will also be required to complete an ‘A Level Getting Ready’ pack before starting with us in September 2027, to help you prepare for your A Level studies.

T Levels T Levels are a technical alternative to A Levels, designed for students who know the industry they want to move into and want to gain real experience alongside their studies. Equivalent to three A Levels, T Levels are two-year qualifications developed with employers to prepare you for skilled careers. Combining classroom learning with a substantial industry placement, they give you the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to take your next step.
Learn with industry T Levels are shaped by employers, giving you the specialist knowledge, practical skills and industry experience needed for your future career. Through a minimum 315-hour (approximately 45-day) placement, you’ll apply your learning in a real workplace, build professional connections and gain valuable insight into your chosen industry.

Goodwood Takeover The college’s 64 Restaurant & Bar was bustling with life as it hosted the annual ‘The Goodwood Takeover’, a collaboration between catering students and chefs from the Goodwood Estate. Students were guided through the full professional kitchen and front-of-house experience, from menu development to service execution. For the evening, students created a bespoke, one-night-only menu inspired by Goodwood’s ethos and crafted using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from the estate. The restaurant was fully booked, with guests enjoying a variety of dishes that showcased both the students’ developing talent and the strong industry partnership between Chichester College and Goodwood.
