Vocational courses, which include University of the Arts London (UAL), City & Guilds and BTEC diplomas, are great for students who prefer practical learning – and they are highly respected by employers. DabApps industry experience
Local app developer DabApps teamed up with Computing, Digital Technologies and IT students at the college, as they powered up their brains to develop a variety of apps. Using the guidance from the team at DabApps, students were given a week to come up with a presentation and given a theoretical budget of £100,000 to fund their apps. During the week, students were visited by a variety of industry mentors, who helped advise them on their apps during the week using their industry experience. At the end of the live industry project, students presented their apps to a field of industry professionals and experts from DabApps, giving them experience of pitching in an environment reflective of the industry.

Earthship visit A group of Design, Surveying and Planning students were able to step out of the classroom, to learn about cutting-edge sustainability inside the Earthship Brighton, England’s first fully off-grid eco-home. During a tour, students got to learn all about the building’s unique features and sustainable construction methods, including the nearly 900 recycled tyres used to form the building’s back wall. This visit allowed the students to improve their knowledge of sustainable building techniques, which can be used in design projects on the course, and can also be taken into the world of work after they finish their course.

Our students say...
After completing a full-time ESOL course, I progressed onto level 1 Childcare. Alongside studying childcare fulltime, I continued with level 1 ESOL in the evenings because I wanted to keep improving my English. The teachers were incredibly supportive, and the lessons were always engaging and enjoyable. Studying at college helped me build my confidence, improve my language skills and settle into the college environment.
