BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Lee Capp Lee Capp moved to Belle Fourche at the age of four. He attended Belle Fourche schools for all thirteen grades. Lee is a veteran. After high school graduation in 1989 Lee served in the US Army where he spent two years in Germany in addition to several months in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Currently, Lee is a supervisor at one of the American Colloid plants in Colony. He attended the Belle Fourche Development Class of 2019/2020 where he learned how Belle Fourche functions and about the businesses that have thrived in Belle Fourche. “I believe Belle Fourche is on the verge of great growth.” Lee said. His goals are to help guide the chamber as Belle Fourche begins this new stage of development.

The Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce serves to promote our members, the commercial, civic, and general interests of the city of Belle Fourche, and our trade area. As a voluntary organization our aim is to represent and advocate for our members and the business community as a whole.

We are not a civic club, a charitable organization, or department of city government. We are a private, non-profit, taxpaying corporation focused on improving the community and businesses of Belle Fourche. We’re compromised of people — people just like you, who realize that we can accomplish more collectively than individually.

Greetings to all our Belle Fourche River Festival Supporters! The Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce our plans for our 2nd Annual River Festival to be held on June 11, 2022. We appreciate each and every one of our members that sponsor our events through out the year. We are opening up sponsorships for the 2 nd Annual River Festival. Please find enclosed a form for you to fill out and return to us. You can choose your different levels of sponsorship for this event. I have circled your level of membership, so you will understand the cost of each level. We are excited for the River Festival this year, and below is a tentative schedule of events: Friday, June 10th All Day - Downtown Shopping 4pm to 8pm Community Picnic, Rail Park 7pm River Run – Rec Center Farmers Market 4pm to 8pm - Community Non-Profit Parking Lot Party (Pioneer Bank Parking Lot) Saturday, June 11th All Day – Downtown Shopping 7:00am to 7:45pm– Battle of the Bones BBQ Contest 10am to 3pm Kids Activity Zone 10am to 6pm- Vendors open located at the Riverfront. Food vendors and craft vendors. 10am to 3pm- Bounce House, Dunk Tank, Scavanger Hunt 5:00 to 7:30pm-Judging of BBQ – Public judges with purchase of Wrist Bands – 7:45 Awards 7pm to 10pm- Band We are also working on getting some local entertainment for during the day (school dance teams, local musicians, etc). LETTER FROM OUR DIRECTOR

BELLE FOURCHE AND AREA HISTORY CAN BE DISCOVERED IN SEVERAL LOCAL HISTORY BOOKS IN THE BELLE FOURCHE PUBLIC LIBRARY - The Pioneer Footprints was published in 1964, by the Half Century Club, by people who KNEW the early settlers. The Cowboys and Sodbusters also was published in 1960’s, and specialized in the Vale and Newell area. Later in 1988 under the auspices of the Belle Fourche Library, Pat Engebretson, Kay Heck and Helen Herrett published A History of Butte County, South Dakota. These books are available at the library. The Library also has microfilm of all the area newspapers from the time they began publishing. There is a small brief Belle Fourche in the Images of America series for Arcadia Publishing. I call this my “picture book” – the pictures come from the Tri-State Museum. Jordan Wilms was the director at the Tri-State Museum. Mary Buchholz is a longtime Belle Fourche resident, museum and Chamber volunteer. There are copies available to purchase at the museum. LIBRARY IS OPEN: 10 – 5 Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday 10 to 2. .

The Black Hills Roundup Ag Committee are planning for the BBQ to be held on June 30, 2022 at 5:30 at the rodeo grounds that is free to rodeo ticket holders. They are looking for sponsors. Sponsorship costs are $100. With this you get: • • •

Business Name printed in the Ranch Rodeo Program Business Name printed on a Banner that is displayed as you enter the BBQ Business Name on the Electronic Board in the Arena.

Miranda and her family welcomed a sweet baby boy on Monday, April 4th at 7:43am. Jakob Clay Gallagher 7lbs 7oz 18inches Everyone is doing great! Miranda will return to work May 31st.

Come see his friends at the Belle Fourche Veterinary Clinic on Saturday, May 21. Bring your dogs on a leash & your cats in a carrier to get a rabies vaccination for only $7 (cash only). After your dog has gotten it’s rabies vaccination come see his parents & their friends to get their city license for free.

When: Friday, June 10 Where: Start and finish at Rail Park during the River Fest Check-In: 6:15-7:00 pm Start Time: 7:00 pm Distance: 1.9 – 2.75 miles ~ You choose your distance! Cost: 18 and under $5.00 (without shirt) ~ Adults $10.00 (without shirt) Want a shirt? Add $10.00 to registration fee: $15 Kids ~ $20 Adults River Run on the River Walk Route: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11.

Up and back short route approximately 1.9 miles.

Begins on State Street at Rail Park East on State Left on 8th Avenue River Walk Stay on River Walk until you hit the end of the paved path that hits State Street (yellow poles) Turn around and return the same way you came! (1.9 miles) For those seeking a few extra steps…we suggest continuing on State Street until you come to American Family Insurance and then turn around and return the same way you came! (2.6 miles) *And for a third option (on your return) consider going up and down through flags at the museum for a little hill and mileage. (.15) Again turning around and hopping back on main path the way you came. (2.75 miles) Lots of options! Enjoy the River Walk, nature, and take care of yourself. Bring a friend and enjoy a leisurely walk or a fast paced walk/run. Finish at Rail Park Check to see if you won any cool giveaways! Enjoy food, drink, shopping, farmers market and fun activities at the River Fest!
