6 Benefits of Regular Physical Activity 1. CONTROLS WEIGHT Physical activity can help prevent weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn! 2. COMBATS HEALTH CONDITIONS & DISEASES No matter what your current weight, activity boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," cholesterol and decreases unhealthy triglycerides. This one-two punch keeps your blood flowing smoothly, which decreases your risk of cardiovascular diseases. 3. IMPROVES MOOD! Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. You may also feel more confident physically when you exercise regularly, which can boost your self-esteem!
4. BOOSTS ENERGY Exercise and physical activity deliver oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and help your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. When your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you have more energy for daily chores. 5. PROMOTES BETTER SLEEP Struggling to fall asleep or to stay asleep? Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep. Just don't exercise too close to bedtime, or you may be too energized to fall asleep! 6. IT’S FUN! Physical activity can be a fun way to spend some time with friends or family in a social setting. It gives you a chance to unwind, enjoy the outdoors or simply engage in activities that make you happy. So, take a dance class, hit the hiking trails or participate in fitness classes!

The property has received several upgrades over the years. Improvements to the property include restoration of the original rock wall structure surrounding the football field, an additional football field along Grant Street, installation of an automated irrigation system, paved parking lot, and a handicapped assessable restroom and shelter facility. This is also the home of the City Horseshoe Courts, Community Gardens and the Off Leash Dog Park. New 2013 improvements included a basketball court, two sand volleyball courts, playground equipment and additional irrigation. In addition, Brady Park at the corner of Grant and Meier has also been refurbished with new playground equipment to replace the 41 year old playground which was constructed when the park was built in 1972.

Within walking distance of the campground is downtown Spearfish, public laundry facilities, grocery stores, hardware stores, and the Matthews Opera House. There are 62 sites to be reserved; 56 full-hookup sites and 5 premium sites. The full-hookup sites include electricity (30 & 50 amp), water, sewer, and cable TV. The premium sites offer the same amenities but are wider, longer, along the creek and a little more private. There are also about 150 non-hookup sites available on a first-come firstserved basis. Reservations for nonhookup sites are not taken except during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The campground is open year round with full hook-up sites available May 1 through October 1, weather dependent. Revenue from the City Campground helps the City to minimize the mill levy thus reducing the burden on the taxpayers to fund municipal government.

Offer Up a Helping Hand The Spearfish Rec and Aquatics Center is a great place to invest in the social capital of our youth, seniors, individuals and families. Opportunities for assuring recreational opportunities and building social capital include: volunteering at events or for activities, sponsoring events or programs either as an individual or business, investing in the health of your employees with business memberships or providing financial support through cash donations. We offer scholarships for youth and adults to participate in recreation summer programs, swimming lessons, SRAC event fees, recreation center or waterpark daily passes, membership, and fitness classes. We also host an annual event and silent auction in early winter that helps fund scholarships for the coming year. Sponsorships are a large part of creating a positive cash flow for any community recreation center and swimming facility. Advertise your business in our gym. Banner space is available for rent. Contact the Spearfish Rec Center for more information If you would like to support our mission and build social capital in Spearfish then we would love to have you as a partner. Thank you for your consideration.

Social Equity
Ensuring all people access to the benefits of local Parks & Recreation
True to the very philosophy of public parks and recreation is the idea that all people – no matter the color of their skin, age, income level or ability – have access to programs, facilities, places and spaces that make their lives and communities great. It is important for people nationwide to have safe, healthful access to parks and recreation. Because of this, people connect with one another and build bonds that last a lifetime. Places transform into destinations with influx of new businesses and local economies flourish. Parks and recreation truly build communities – communities for all. This philosophy of social equity and access, which is upheld by all public parks and recreation, is the foundation that allows people to benefit from what public parks and recreation provides such as improved health and restorative green space. The benefits of social equity and universal access to public parks and recreation are many, including: • Public enjoyment and engagement. Where parks and open space are plentiful and recreation services strong, residents enjoy the closest attachment and engagement within their communities; and studies indicate higher levels of local gross domestic product and economic well‐ being; • Quality recreation time with family and friends. Parks and recreation services provide a space and a reason to partake in enjoying quality time, relaxation, and fun among family members and friends, thus strengthening the social and familial bonds that provide balance and satisfaction in life; • Improvement of mental and physical health. Parks and recreation can reduce the impacts of chronic diseases, especially in such vulnerable populations as children, seniors, and the underserved; and • Measurable decreases in rates of crime and other detrimental activities. Communities are safer as a result of a wholesome atmosphere created by well‐managed parks and recreation services in communities through healthy activities and programming for all people. • Upholding social equity is one of the core means of assuring the value of parks and recreation for future generations. - NRPA 2013
