LETTER FROM THE MAC RACE CHAIR

WELCOME TO THE 113TH CHICAGO YACHT CLUB RACE TO MACKINAC,

PRESENTED BY WINTRUST

On behalf of the Chicago Yacht Club, welcome to the 113th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac.

Whether you’re competing as skipper or crew, whether this will be your first Mac Race or whether you have earned double goat status, in 2022 all of us will make new memories and share incredible experiences in the 333 miles between Chicago’s Navy Pier and the famous Mackinac lighthouse.

Your endurance, your skills and your strength will all be tested. Who will manage the high winds and the low winds the best? Who will decide to go over the Manitous, and will it work for them? Who will find the best wind heading up the lake? Who will earn the right to etch their name on our famous trophies and in the history books?

Since 1898, sailors from around the world have gathered on the southern shore of Lake Michigan each summer and asked themselves these same questions.

But the joy of this race isn’t found only in the thrill of winning, or the pride of joining your crew as you accept an award on the island. It’s in the journey and the stories - and tall tales - created along the way.

Today, you join the thousands of sailors who have come before you on the longest annual freshwater sailing race in the world.

And while we all look forward with anticipation to the starting gun, please join me in thanking everyone who have worked so hard to make this race possible for us all. Without the United States Coast Guard, our race volunteers, our generous sponsors and all of our families and supporters, this race is not possible.

Now, finish your final preparations. Recheck your weather routing. And we’ll see you on the water.

Sincerely, Sam Veilleux Chairman, 113th CYC Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust
