PLUMM DE LA CRUZ’S JOURNEY TO CYC MEMBERSHIP

Well my adventure began on the water of beautiful Lake Michigan during the summer of 2021 at CYC Belmont Harbor.

I got all geared up to set away on my 420-sailboat. I will admit, I was afraid at first but once on the water I had an incredible feeling! On the last day of sailing camp, as we sailed back into Belmont Harbor all of us sang the song ‘We are Castaways!’ I will never forget that. We ended the day with the white plate awards, and I received an award for ‘Future Coach.’

I wanted to continue my sailing adventures, and I found out that I was able to join CYC as a member. Being me, I filled out my application right away. I want to thank my sponsors Diane Foote, Alice Martin, Eileen O’Neill, also including Elizabeth Haley for making my Membership possible. I attended the CYC Meet and Greet mixer on Tuesday, October 2021 and felt so welcomed! I also received an awesome CYC bag filled of all sorts of sailing gear at the member mixer.

I look forward to continuing to connect with other CYC members and one day being on one or more CYC committees. I hope to see you out on the water! “Ahoy!” ✶
