Conference Speakers Monroe Anderson Editor Savoy Magazine

Monroe Anderson is currently the editor of Savoy Magazine, after holding that title at N’DIGO. For more than three decades, he was a career journalist, working for some of America’s best-known media corporations – Dow Jones, Johnson Publishing Company, the Tribune Company, Post-Newsweek and Viacom. In 1988-89, he had a brief stint in municipal government, serving as press secretary for Chicago Mayor Eugene Sawyer.

He is the co-author of the non-fiction book Brothers, and is also a contributing author to Restoration 1989: Chicago Elects a New Daley, a book detailing the 1989 Chicago mayoral election. Until his retirement in 2002, Anderson was the director of station services and community affairs at WBBM-TV, a CBS-owned and operated station in Chicago. Anderson joined Channel 2 in 1989. In addition to acting as editor of the national magazine, Anderson writes “Monroe’s Doctrine,” a monthly social and political commentary in Savoy.

Yasmin T. Bates

Executive Vice President, Chicagoland – South Division Harris Yasmin T. Bates began her banking career in 1976 when she joined Harris N.A. as a commercial banking trainee. During her tenure, she has held progressively responsible positions, leading to her current position. As executive vice president, she is responsible for the Chicagoland - South Division, which encompasses the City, Southwest, Southeast, Central and Far Southwest (Joliet) regions. She oversees the development and implementation of the south division’s growth strategies, which include increasing market share, share of wallet and customer loyalty.

News Anchor and Reporter ABC 7 News Emmy award winning Cheryl Burton, co-anchors two of the #1 rated newscast in Chicago. Burton co-anchors the ABC 7 News at 5 p.m., alongside Ron Magers, and is a contributing anchor of ABC 7’s 10 p.m. newscast. The Chicago native joined ABC 7 as a weekend coanchor and reporter in November 1992.

She has received many honors for her work including several Emmy Awards. She was the first recipient of the 2005 “Sisters in the Spirit” Award, given by Chicago area gospel singers to persons who exemplify a faith-based life. She was honored in 2005 and 2004 with the Thurgood Marshall Award. The Chicago Association of Black Journalist (CABJ) presented her with the 2004 Russ Ewing Award for the emotional story of a mother-to-daughter kidney donation.

She is very active in the Chicago community and gives much of her time to non-profit groups and charities. She is a volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club of America and serves as a motivational speaker for the Chicago Public Schools. She serves on the boards of the Life with Lupus Guild, the Multicultural Dance Center and City Year. She also participates in the Rush-Presbyterian/St. Luke’s fashion show.

Ms. Burton graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana with a B.S. degree in psychology and biology.

Martin Cabrera

Gloria Castillo is president of Chicago United, a racially diverse corporate membership organization, founded in 1968. Prior to joining Chicago United, Ms. Castillo spent over 20 years in advertising and promotions as president of Monarch Marketing Group, Inc. In October 1993, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency awarded Gloria Castillo and Mona Castillo as co-honorees of their 1993 Minority Entrepreneurs of the Year Award. Partner, Lake Michigan Area Office - Chicago Ernst & Young Robert Der is a senior partner in Ernst & Young’s Lake Michigan Area office, which includes offices in Chicago, Indianapolis, Milwaukee and Grand Rapids. As one of the Lake Michigan Area office (LMA) area industry leaders for the retail, distribution and consumer products/industrial products industry group, he has extensive experience working with companies in the retail, wholesale/distribution, consumer products manufacturing and service companies. Mr. Der is a graduate of North Central College with a triple major in economics and business, political science and sociology. He completed his graduate work at Northern Illinois University earning an M.S. in business administration specializing in accountancy.

Venita E. Fields

Senior Managing Director Smith Whiley & Co. Venita Fields is a partner and senior managing director at Smith Whiley & Company, a private investment firm that provides a diverse range of asset management and financial services aimed at public and private plan sponsors, as well as Taft–Hartley plans. Ms. Fields joined the firm in January 1999.

Her expertise is in middle-market leveraged buyouts, corporate restructurings and refinancings. In her current role at Smith Whiley & Company, she is responsible for deal flow development, investment selection, valuation and portfolio management for the firm’s Pelham Fund I and II, two subordinated debt and equity funds formed to make investments in middle-market companies. Total commitments in these funds are $215 million.

Ms. Fields is a graduate of Northwestern University and holds a master’s in management from the J. L. Kellogg School of Management.

Senior Vice President & Director – Retail Human Resource Strategies ShoreBank Leana B. Flowers began her career at the Northern Trust Company in Chicago where she held positions in operations management and personal banking. In 1980, she joined ShoreBank as director of human resources, and was appointed senior vice president in 1995. In 2003, Flowers’ role was expanded to director of retail and human resource strategies in which she is responsible for strategic initiatives in both retail banking and human resources. A corporate strategist and general manager, she has over 23 years banking experience, assisting executives with operations growth, performance improvement and corporate development programs.

Board and community experience includes serving as chairman of the board, Muntu Dance Theatre, Coordinating Council member of the Chicago Empowerment Zone, member of the National Human Resource Association, advisory board member of CAEL (Council for Adult and Experiential Learning) and member of the Leaders Council of Chicago United.

Ms. Flowers is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and holds a B.A. and an M.S. from the university.

Martin P. Greene Partner Greene & Letts

Mr. Greene is responsible for directing the firm’s employment law practice. He has extensive experience in the trial of such cases in both federal and state jurisdictions. In addition to employment matters, Mr. Greene has represented many private and public corporations in a variety of matters including: municipal law, commercial and contract litigation, contract negotiations and civil rights.

General Assignment Reporter,

ABC 7 News and Host of “Ñ Beat” Theresa Gutierrez has been a general assignment reporter for ABC 7 News since June 1986. In addition to her reporting duties, Gutierrez serves as host of “Ñ Beat,” a series of locally produced half-hour specials featuring prominent Hispanics who are making positive strides in the community.

Gutierrez was one of the first Hispanic women to break into television journalism. Guttierez along with Barbara Walters, Connie Chung, Christine Amanpour, and Jane Pauly were featured on the cover of the educational book, “Women who broke barriers: The new face of TV news.” The book has been distributed to schools throughout the world.

Gutierrez began her media career in 1971 at NBC 5 as a production assistant and in 1972 joined ABC 7 in the same position. For 25 years Gutierrez has hosted and produced a number of television talk shows including “The Feminine Franchise,” a feminist program dealing with topics of concern to women, “Weekend Edition,” “Weekend,” and “Sunday in Chicago with Theresa Gutierrez.”

Ms. Gutierrez received her bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She resides in the Chicago area.

Patricia S. Harris

Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer McDonald’s USA Patricia S. Harris joined McDonald’s in 1976 as an administrator in the corporation’s Legal Department. Over the years, she has consistently worked her way through the ranks of the organization holding such positions as human resources supervisor and manager, staff and department director and assistant vice president, leading to her current role as vice president and chief diversity officer of McDonald’s Corporation. In this position she leads a team responsible for the development and implementation of diversity strategies throughout the McDonald’s system.

She is the chair of the NAACP-ACT/SO Industry Advisory Council, a board member of the DuSable Museum of African American History, president of the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, and serves on the DePaul University Board of Directors’ Institute for Business and Professional Ethics Committee and the co-chair of Rainbow/PUSH EXCEL board of directors.

Ms. Harris received her bachelor’s degree in public administration & personnel administration from Roosevelt University, Chicago.

Host “First Business Morning News” Tom Hudson hosts the nationally syndicated TV program “First Business Morning News”, which covers everything business from the trading pits to personal finance. The first-of-its kind daily personal-finance oriented business news program airs on more than 175 television stations nationwide Monday through Friday. He has reported on topics such as Social Security reform, Federal Reserve interest rate policy, prescription drug reimportation and European Union expansion. Prior to hosting “First Business Morning News”, he reported and anchored market coverage for the groundbreaking web-based financial news service, WebFN. There he reported regularly from the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He also created original programming for a large e-brokerage.

He co-anchored morning drive for the former all-news, heritage 50kw WMAQ-AM/ Chicago. There he anchored election night and special breaking news, including the bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.

Mr. Hudson graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Iowa and is the recipient of several professional honors and awards for his work in broadcast journalism.

Abe Tomás Hughes, II

President and Chief Executive Officer Hispanic Alliance for Career Advancement Abe Tomás Hughes is currently the president and chief executive officer of the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE), a leader in the advancement of Hispanics at all stages of the career continuum, from high school to college and on to the professional years. Abe has led the 23 year old non-profit organization’s restructuring, national expansion and funding and has received numerous awards for the dramatic turnaround effort, including the prestigious Brillante Award for Best Non-Profit of the Year for 2003 from the National Society of Hispanic MBA’s.

Mr. Hughes serves on the board of directors and finance committee of Advocate Health Care, a $3 billion health care leader based in Chicago, is on the executive committee of the trustees of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago and is on the Cornell University Trustee Subcommittee on Diversity.

Mr. Hughes received his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and his B.A. from Cornell University in history with a minor in neurobiology and behavior.

Business Columnist Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Tannette Johnson-Elie is a business columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She is one of the few African-American women nationwide who is privileged to write a weekly column for the business section of a major metropolitan daily newspaper. The column highlights small and minority-owned businesses in the Milwaukee area, workplace diversity and issues that affect jobs and economics in urban communities, and corporate board diversity. She has written extensively on the topic of corporate board diversity, which led to her participation in today’s panel discussion.

In addition to her work at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, she is an associate lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she is a much sought after speaker on diversity. Host - “The Cliff Kelley Show” WVON 1450 AM Cliff Kelley has distinguished himself as a popular talk show host who brings a wealth of knowledge on local, national and international affairs to WVON’s vast listening audience.

A native Chicagoan and attorney, Kelley has been active in Chicago’s political arena for more than 30 years, including 16 years in the City Council. Kelley has been the host of WVON’s popular morning-drive talk show, “The Cliff Kelley Show” for more than 10 years. He makes numerous guest appearances on issue-oriented programs on both local and national television, and is a frequent contributor to “Chicago Tonight,” which airs on Chicago’s public television station, WTTW- Channel 11.

Kelley has traveled extensively, including trips to the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Martin L. King

Founder and CEO, MKMB Corporation Chairman, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Martin L. King is the founder and CEO of MKMB Corporation which is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. MKMB and its wholly-owned subsidiaries have grown from a start-up organization to one with over $5 million in retail sales and 40 employees. In addition, MKMB Corp shares in an additional $200 million in sales through a shared investment (WOW Cable and Internet) where MKMB is a minority equity investor and that company employs over 300 people.

In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, he also serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, an organization founded by Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. The mission of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition is to protect, defend and gain civil rights and to even the economic and educational playing fields in all aspects of American life and to bring peace to the world.

Mr. King is a graduate of the University of Illinois and holds a B.S. and J.D. from the university.

Conference Speakers Michael W. Lewis

Executive Vice President, President, City Region Harris Michael W. Lewis is an executive vice president at Harris, and president of the bank’s city region. His responsibilities include strategically integrating the management of business segments across the network of Harris branches in the city of Chicago. He has specific accountability for growing the banks commercial business, community development and consumer loans and services sectors throughout the region.

He is an active member of Chicago’s business and civic community, and sits on the executive committee of the board of directors of Chicago United, and on the board of advisors for Chicago’s branch of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). He also serves as a member of the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association, the Zoning Board for the village of Olympia Fields, the Urban Bankers Forum and the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management. He is a member of the Black MBA Association, the Alumni Associations of Indiana University and Western Michigan University and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Mr. Lewis holds an M.B.A. from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.

James H. Lowry

Senior Vice President Boston Consulting Group James H. Lowry joined The Boston Consulting Group in November 2000. Mr. Lowry leads BCG’s workforce diversity, ethnic marketing and minority business development consulting practice efforts.

Previous to his position with BCG, Mr. Lowry was president and CEO of his own firm, James H. Lowry & Associates (JHLA).

Prior to starting JHLA, he worked at a leading consulting firm in the area of urban affairs development. In addition, he has served as a host of two nationally syndicated TV programs; Inside-Bedford Stuyvesant and Minority Business Report, an adjunct professor of diversity at J.L. Kellogg School of Management, served as chairman of the board of the City of Chicago Library system, and academic director of Kellogg’s NMSDC Advanced Management Education Program and Kellogg Minority Corporate Governance Program.

Mr. Lowry earned his M.P.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and his B.A. in political science at Grinnell College. He also attended Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development (PMD).

Ms. Mayberry McKissack is well recognized as an entrepreneur and has been featured in articles of several publications including: BusinessWeek.com, Fortune.com, Black Enterprises, the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times.

Ms. Mayberry McKissack recently co-edited The Nia Guide for Black Women: Achieving Career Success on Your Terms and Balancing Work & Life (Agate Publishing). Ms. Mayberry McKissack was recently named as an associate adjunct professor for Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University (Spring 2005).

Assistant Vice President – Diversity Hyatt Corporation Salvador Mendoza is responsible for heightening and sustaining Hyatt’s presence and visibility in the community. Mendoza will continue overseeing Hyatt’s diversity efforts in recruitment, development and retention of women and minorities, community relations and supplier diversity. Mendoza is also responsible for managing Hyatt’s ongoing community partnerships with organizations such as, the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), National Hispanic Corporate Council (NHCC), and the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA).

Chicago Diversity Worklife Manager PricewaterhouseCoopers Sheila Quinn is the Chicago diversity worklife manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She joined the firm in December of 2003. In her role she is committed to improving minority retention, developing diverse leaders and improving worklife flexibility for all Chicago employees.

Teamwork and collaboration are the keys to success in her role which focuses on improving cross-cultural and cross-gender communication.

Ms. Quinn has worked in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors and has served in both industry and professional services. She has extensive experience in human resources, employee relations and cultural change initiatives. Earlier in her career, she produced an educational feature film and worked with The Points of Light Foundation to lead a visioning effort for volunteer centers across the country.

Ulice Payne, Jr.

Managing Member Addison-Clifton, LLC Ulice Payne is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Addison-Clifton, global trade compliance advisors. Prior to joining Addison-Clifton, LLC, he was president and CEO of the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club and the managing partner of the Milwaukee office of the law firm of Foley & Lardner where he chaired the International Business Team. The International Business Team was responsible for representing global and domestic companies in cross-border transactions.

Anchor, Evening Business Wrap-Up WBBM Newsradio 780 As a reporter, columnist, editor and broadcast journalist, Robert Reed covers business events for some of the nation’s largest and most prestigious media outlets. Currently, he anchors the Evening Business Wrap-Up, heard weekdays on the CBS-owned WBBM Newsradio 780. His business reports have periodically been aired over the CBS radio network. He is also a contributing editor to Chicago Magazine, the Tribune Company’s award-winning city magazine, where he writes a regular business column. Reed recently co-authored a new book, “Covering Business”, published by Marion Street Press in Oak Park, Illinois.

For nearly 15 years, Reed worked at Crain’s Chicago Business, starting as a reporter and working up to become editor in January 2000. During that time, Reed anchored daily business reports on NBC-owned WMAQ-TV and Fox-owned WFLD-TV. He appeared weekly as a business analyst on PBS’s Channel 11’s Chicago Tonight. In mid-2003, Reed left as Crain’s editor after the publication won numerous awards for outstanding journalism.

He has taught secondary school in Puerto Rico and college level political science classes. He is often asked to speak at universities and business conferences.

Michael C. Riordan

President and Chief Executive Officer University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System As president and CEO, Riordan guides a hospital that has consistently earned top rankings from U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s leading health care facilities. The University of Chicago Hospitals is one of Chicago’s largest Illinois hospitals ranked by net patient revenue, and is the largest employer on Chicago’s South Side. Known for its care at the“forefront of medicine,” the University of Chicago Hospitals brings together world-class clinicians, researchers, and staff to provide skilled and humane patient care for some of the most serious and difficult medical problems.

He is an active leader and advocate in the healthcare community. He is a member of the Governing Board of the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and a board member of the Illinois Hospital Association. Riordan is also a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), including one of its primary components, the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH). President Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas Desiree Rogers was elected president of Peoples Energy Corporation’s two utility subsidiaries, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas in July 2004.

In this role, Rogers has direct responsibility for the utilities’ field operations, customer service functions and gas supply management. She also serves as a senior vice president of Peoples Energy Corporation.

Since joining Peoples Energy in 1997, Rogers has taken on a series of tough assignments with great success, including the restructuring of critical business functions to better meet customer needs while improving financial results.

Ms. Rogers is active in the business and civic community. She serves on the corporate boards of Equity Residential and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. She is also involved in numerous civic organizations. She is vice-chairman of the Lincoln Park Zoo and serves on the executive committee of The Museum of Science and Industry, The Executives’ Club of Chicago and The Chicago Network. She holds memberships in The Commercial Club of Chicago, The Economic Club of Chicago and The Wellesley Business Leadership Council.

She served as the chairman of the Chicago Children’s Museum from 1995 to 1998.

Ms. Rogers holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Wellesley College and a master’s degree from Harvard Business School.

Steven Rogers Clinical Professor of Finance and Management Kellogg School of Management Steven Rogers is the Gordon and Llura Gund Family Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship. Professor Rogers teaches Entrepreneurial Finance at Kellogg and is the Director of the Larry and Carol Levy Institute for Entrepreneurial Practice. Before joining the Kellogg Faculty, he owned and operated two manufacturing firms and one retail operation.

Mr. Rogers currently serves on the Advisory Boards of Private Equity firms SB Partners, Smith Whiley and Company, OCA Ventures, and The Runners Club, an entrepreneur training program. He also serves on the Board of Directors of SC Johnson Wax, SuperValu (NYSE) and DQE (NYSE). His non-profit work includes board membership for Alain Locke Charter School. Mr. Rogers is also a member of the Harvard Business School Visiting Committee, and a Trustee of Williams College.

Director of Public Affairs for the Midwest Division Jewel-Osco In October 2003, Jewel-Osco named Lauri M. Sanders as director of public affairs for the Midwest division. She has responsibility for community, government and media relations, and corporate contributions, and helps implement the company’s strategic plan. Jewel-Osco is a division of Albertsons, Inc., one of the world’s largest food-drug chains.

Prior to joining Jewel-Osco, she served as director of public affairs and communications for Chicago State University. She has also served as director of news affairs for the Chicago Police Department, and director of media relations for Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Sanders is a graduate of Spelman College and holds a master’s in journalism from Roosevelt University. She currently sits on the board of directors for the Bottomless Closet, the Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce, Food for All, and the Black Public Relations Society – Chicago Chapter.

Doris Salomón Chagin

Category Manager, Ethnic Markets BP Products North America Doris Salomón Chagin presently serves as the category manager for ethnic markets, East of the Rockies, for BP Products North America. In this newly-created position, she plays an advisory role in rolling out a convenience program that focuses on Latino and African-American consumers. Prior to joining BP, she served as vice president of the Donors Forum of Chicago, a membership organization of foundations and corporations. Her professional career has included positions with MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund), U.S. Senator Paul Simon, and COSSMHO (National Coalition of Hispanic Health and Human Service Organizations).

Understanding the importance of the Latino community, she co-founded the BP Latino Network, which seeks to enhance BP’s positive reputation in the Chicagoland community through the promotion of BP’s core values and social investment strategy. The Network also engages in activities that support the inclusion and advancement of Latinos within BP’s corporate structure.

President & CEO Advocate Heath Care Jim Skogsbergh is president and CEO of Advocate Health Care, a faithbased, nonprofit system based in Oak Brook, Ill. Mr. Skogsbergh joined Advocate as chief operating officer in January 2001, and began his current position in April 2002. He came to Advocate Health Care from Iowa Health System in Des Moines, where he served as executive vice president, responsible for three hospitals, multiple physician organizations and academic teaching programs.

Mr. Skogsbergh is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Iowa.

Senior Operations Manager for Global Diversity & Inclusion Hewitt Associates Tyronne Stoudemire joined Hewitt in December 1996 as a customer service unit manager. His defined contributions clients have included Liberty Mutual, IIT Industries, Hartford and Paine Webber. Throughout the next several years Tyronne progressed into the customer service cluster manager role while working with the SBC, BJC/Westinghouse, Kmart, and Verizon Wireless client teams.

In June 2004, he joined the human resources team as the senior operations manager for global diversity & inclusion. He is responsible for executing and operationalizing the vision and strategy for diversity and inclusion in collaboration with the business, HR, and the associate affinity groups. He also manages Hewitt’s relationships with external diversity organizations.

He has worked with the BAHA (Black Associates at Hewitt Associates) Leadership Team, served as a facilitator for Hewitt’s Diversity firm-wide training, served on the Diversity Council for Human Resources Outsourcing, and was a team member for the planning of Hewitt’s Sponsorship of the 2004 UNCF Black & White Ball. He recently founded and currently directs Hewitt’s Diversity Chorus.

Larry Wahlstrom

President, Jewel-Osco Division Albertsons, Inc. Larry has more than 30 years of experience in the food and drug industry. He joined Osco Drug Stores in 1971 in Green Bay, Wisconsin and held positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of marketing, advertising, and operations. He was promoted to vice president of advertising and market development in 1990. He was named vice president of the east operations for the drug division in 1991 and was then named vice president sales, general merchandise and drug in 2001.

In 2002, Larry was named to president of the Albertsons Florida division. Wahlstrom was then named to senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions in 2004, when he was responsible for managing the successful integration of Albertsons and Shaw’s.

Mr. Wahlstrom earned his B. S. degree from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay.

Manager, Special Projects, Social Issues Service Investor Responsibility Research Center Susan Williams is manager of special projects for the Investor Responsibility Research Center’s Social Issues Service. IRRC is an independent research firm that is the leading source of high quality, impartial information on corporate governance and social responsibility issues affecting investors and corporations worldwide. Ms. Williams joined IRRC in 1984.

She is the lead author of more than a half-dozen IRRC books and publications, including one on corporate disclosure of equal employment policies and work force diversity data. Ms. Williams is a frequent contributor to IRRC’s Corporate Social Issues Reporter. She also writes analyses of shareholder resolutions presented at corporate annual meetings and writes related background reports, focusing on the issues of board diversity, equal employment and links between executive compensation and social performance.

Ms. Williams is a graduate of Williams College. She graduated cum laude and received highest honors in environmental studies.

Carolyn Yauyan Woo, Ph.D

Martin J. Gillen Dean and Ray and Milann Siegfried Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies, Mendoza College of Business University of Notre Dame Dr. Woo assumed the deanship of the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame in 1997. Before then, she served as associate executive vice president for academic affairs at Purdue University.

She has focused her research on strategy, entrepreneurship, and organizational systems. She has received the International Council for Small Business Distinguished Scholar Award, Best Paper Award (Entrepreneurship Division, Academy of Management), the Excellence Award for Education from the Asian American Alliance, and the John S. Day Distinguished Alumni Academic Service Award from Purdue University.

Dr. Woo is a graduate of Purdue University and holds a B.S., M.S.I.A and Ph.D from the university. She currently serves on the boards of directors of AON Corporation, Circuit City and NiSource.

Ms. Wright came to The Hollins Group after a long and varied career in the public, private and public interest sectors. Ms. Wright believes in giving back to the community and is involved in a number of service activities. Bridge Awards Introduction

2005 C H ICAGO U N ITED B R I DGE AWAR DS The Bridge Award represents the first national award that honors a CEO who is an advocate for multiracial diversity in corporate governance. In keeping with the spirit of our advocacy in support of the development of multiracial participation at all levels in business, this award brings visibility to those who have managed change and inspires others to follow.

Chicago United (CU) established the Bridge Award during its inaugural Changing Color of Leadership Conference in November of 2004. The award celebrates the accomplishments of a chief executive officer of a publicly held corporation who has inspired and supported diversity on its board of directors. The award also recognizes a corporation’s commitment to diversity in senior level management and its business partnerships among diverse firms.

Our efforts focused on the Fortune 100 and the Chicago Metro 100 to select this year’s recipients of the National Bridge Award and the Chicago Bridge Award. After conducting a rigorous examination of publicly available company data, CU reviewed five national and five Chicago-area companies with diverse boards of directors based on a pre-determined diversity threshold.

The National Bridge Award serves to honor the exemplary practices of a Fortune 100 corporation. The Chicago Bridge Award serves to honor a corporation supporting the development of a vibrant and richly diverse business community in the Chicago region through successful board diversity.

Each company was evaluated on quantitative and qualitative data by an internal and external committee. The committees consisted of corporate and non-profit executives, entrepreneurs and academicians, and were selected based on their neutrality and experience. The committees were provided with rating/ranking criteria and a cumulative point system for the award selection process.

We applaud the 2005 Bridge Award recipients and honorees. They truly are the champions for diversity in governance, management and business partnerships.

Their leadership, vision and commitment will continue to help foster innovative approaches to achieving diversity in corporate governance throughout the business community.

Rowe is the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Exelon Corporation - one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, with 5.2 million customers and revenues of more than $14 billion. Forbes ranked Exelon as the number one utility company on its 2005 list of “The Best Managed Companies in America” and ranked Exelon as the number one utility company in the United States on its 2004 list of “The World’s 2000 Leading Companies.”

Mr. Rowe has led electric utilities since 1984, consecutively serving as chief executive officer of Central Maine Power Company, the New England Electric System and Unicom Corporation (one of Exelon’s predecessors). He is a lawyer, and was general counsel of Consolidated Rail Corporation and a partner in the firm of Isham, Lincoln and Beale.

Mr. Rowe’s business activities have been marked by his attention to balance sheet strength, earnings consistency, service reliability and environmental performance.

Mr. Rowe has been an integral part of Exelon’s vision and commitment to diversity.

Under his leadership, Exelon’s diversity policies have become firmly anchored in its belief system that inclusion, respect and fair treatment contribute to increased productivity. The company implements multiple strategies focusing on workforce diversity, supplier diversity, civic and social commitment, and the areas of education and support. He has received El Valor Corporation’s Corporate Visionary Award and the Corporate Leadership Award from the Spanish Coalition for Jobs.

In addition to his role as chairman, president and CEO of Exelon, Mr. Rowe is a member of the boards of directors of Unum Provident Corporation, Sunoco and the Northern Trust Company. His civic and professional commitments emphasize historical education and diversity, and include serving as chairman of the Chicago Historical Society, chairman on the Mies van der Rohe Society and as a member of the boards of the Illinois Institute of Technology, the Chicago Urban League, the Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University, the Edison Electric Institute, the Chicago Club and the visiting committees of the Oriental Institute and the University of Pennsylvania Museum.

Mr. Rowe holds a bachelor’s and a juris doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin and its law school, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif and is the founder of the Rowe Professorship in Byzantine history.

Jeff Noddle has been at the helm of SUPERVALU INC. since being elected as the company’s chief executive officer in 2001. Today, as chairman and CEO, Noddle oversees a company that is at once the leading U.S. food distributor and the country’s 7th largest grocery retailer.

Mr. Noddle is also at the helm of promoting diversity and inclusion at SUPERVALU. Recognizing diversity as a competitive advantage is critical to SUPERVALU’s financial success, he has been instrumental in supporting diversity on its board of directors, developing a diverse workforce and incorporating ethnic product offerings as part of the company’s overall retail strategy. According to Noddle, “We have only just begun our journey to mirror what our great country looks like – a richly woven tapestry of diversity and cultures. It is essential for our long-term success that diversity becomes a key strategy that is well understood and embraced throughout our entire organization.”

Mr. Noddle joined SUPERVALU in 1976 as director of retail operations for the company’s J.M. Jones division in Champaign, Illinois. During his time in the J.M. Jones division, he held a number of positions, including director of merchandising and vice president, marketing. Between 1982 and 1985, He served as president of the company’s Fargo division and its former Miami division. In 1985, he was named corporate vice president, merchandising, and a series of promotions followed. By 1995, he had been named corporate executive vice president and president and chief operating officer of SUPERVALU’s Distribution Food Companies. In 2000, Noddle was named SUPERVALU’s president and chief operating officer, responsible for all of the company’s operations. He was named president and CEO in 2001, and then elected to the position of chairman of the board in 2002.

In addition to his role as chairman of the SUPERVALU board of directors, Mr. Noddle serves on a number of industry and corporate boards and is active in Minneapolis civic affairs. He is currently chairman of the board for The Food Marketing Institute (FMI), a board member for the Independent Grocers Alliance, Inc. (IGA) and chairman of its governance committee and a board member of the Greater Twin Cities United Way. Mr. Noddle earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1969.
