Through our innovative 1L Your Way Program for full-time students, for example, you can begin tailoring your studies during your first year through either a specialized elective course or a first-year clinical course. This means you’ll start gaining knowledge in your legal area of interest earlier in your law school career—a fact you can highlight when applying for summer jobs and externships. Our faculty is also dedicated to preparing you for the continuing technological developments that will transform the substance and practice of law during your career.

You Explore Chicago-Kent gives you a wide choice of opportunities for gaining practical experience during law school. Through the Access2Practice Legal Externship Program, you can receive academic credit for externing with a designated supervising attorney in a wide variety of pre-approved practice areas at public organizations and select private practices and corporations.

Additional opportunities are available through the Access2Practice Judicial Externship Program and the Semester Law Firm Associate Program.

Through the C-K Law Group: The Law Offices of Chicago-Kent, you can gain practical experience under the supervision of practicing attorneys in our unique in-house legal clinic that uses a fee-generating model designed to replicate the experience of employment at a private law firm. You can also get involved with our award-winning Moot Court and Trial Advocacy teams, and hone your advocacy skills in our state-of-the-art courtrooms.

You Prepare At Chicago-Kent we believe that early and strategic career planning is critical in today’s job market. In your first year we assign you a career counselor who is tasked with learning as much as possible about your legal interests and professional goals, and who will assist you with your résumé, cover letters, and research of various types of legal employers.

Our Career Services Office holds approximately 25 career and professional development programs, training sessions, panels, and networking events each year to help you define your interests, refine job-search skills, and cultivate the professional qualities required of successful attorneys.
