Last week, communities across the country celebrated Juneteenth which is a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in America.

SOUTH SUBURBAN VILLAGE CELEBRATES JUNETEENTH WITH GAMES, A MOVIE, AND A HISTORY LESSON

On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, traveled to Galveston, Texas to share the news that the American Civil War had ended and all of the nation’s slaves were declared free. Since then, Juneteenth has been celebrated every year on June 19th to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. PAGE 2
