T
he Englewood community is often depicted as the epicenter of violence, poverty and despair in the city of Chicago. Multiple gang shootings and homicides, social economic disparities and failing schools continue to plague this South Side neighborhood, but like a Phoenix rising from the ashes Englewood, native Arnett Faulkner is proof there is still good coming out of and going back into this community. n

Betty Price, affectionately known as Mother Price, has served the community for over two decades in Englewood through Feed, Clothe, Help the Needy (FCHN). She began her outreach after quitting her fulltime job of 23 years to begin feeding and clothing the less fortunate and she started right out of her own home. When FCHN

began to grow, Mother Price purchased an old meat packing facility, renovated it and began to run her ministry out of Englewood where she and her staff now serve the less fortunate Monday through Saturday from 9 am until 4 pm. After the recession of 2008, FCHN began to see an overflow of men, women and children and now feeds and clothes more than 1,000 people a week through
the outreach program. Unfortunately, Mother Price and her family experienced their own setback when Mother Prices’ husband, Deacon Price, suffered a stroke while visiting family in Mississippi for Thanksgiving. With Mother Price staying by her husbands’ side in Mississippi where he n
