African Poetry Book Fund Awarded Poetry Foundation Grant LINCOLN, Neb., PRNewswire -- The Poetry Foundation has awarded a $343,750 grant to the African Poetry Book Fund (APBF) to fund a research study of African poetry book distribution.

Established in 2012 by Kwame Dawes, George W. Holmes Distinguished Professor of English and Glenna Luschei Editor of Prairie Schooner, the APBF operates from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln through an international complex of additional collaborations and partnerships. First supported by the generosity of Laura and Robert F.X. Sillerman, the APBF since has been awarded grants from the Ford Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Academy of American Poets.

The Poetry Foundation granted the African Poetry Book Fund $343,750 to study poetry book distribution in Africa.

Kwame Dawes says, “APBF’s core goal is to find ways to advance African poetry in the world, and one of the critical ways to do so effectively is to appreciate the complex and multifaceted ways in which poetry and the publishing of poetry takes place. The first phase of the campaign will launch the week of July 11 and will feature attractions from neighborhoods across the city as identified by residents and small businesses. “Welcome to our Neighborhoods” builds on the community-led marketing campaign that Choose Chicago began last year, and this intra-city tourism ad campaign is the first time Chicagoans and suburbanites will be explicitly encouraged to explore the city in their backyard.

ILLINOIS TOLLWAY SHARPENS FOCUS ON TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENTS, HIRES CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER DOWNERS GROVE, IL – In the wake of an industry-wide shift to cashless tolling, accelerated by the worldwide pandemic, the Illinois Tollway’s leaders are doubling down on efforts to support the agency’s diverse technology needs. The Tollway today added the first Tollway Chief Information Officer as it looks to consolidate, realign and invest in its IT workforce.

2 cups uncooked rotini pasta 1/2 cup prepared pesto 1can (15 ounces) READ 3 Bean Salad, drained 1 cup grape or cherry tomatoes, halved 3/4 cup fresh mozzarella bocconcini, cut in halves or quarters 1/4 cup toasted walnuts (optional) 1/4 cup (1 ounce) shredded fresh Parmesan cheese

Black Beans: 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed 3 tablespoons water 1 teaspoon paprika 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 1 pinch salt

Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and rinse under cold running water. In bowl, combine pesto with pasta to coat well.

Combine pasta with drained bean salad. Stir in tomatoes and mozzarella; refrigerate.

To serve, sprinkle walnuts and Parmesan cheese over top.
