DIVER-CIDADE my role: the problem setter multiscalar vision to understand all the forces acting on the urban

The project took shape during a double degree program in Brazil. It took over a year to be completed and it consists into another approach to urbanization of ‘informal settlements’. The idea was to find an answer to the big amount of failures when dealing with precariousness. After a long and detailed analysis and consequent mapping of the reality I tried to show the complexity living in this area. With the aim to not reduce it I focused my attention to the parts concerning the planner role ending with 5 macro topics to deal with in parallel. The richness of the work lies probably in the fact that it does not belong to a single discipline but tries to include as many inputs as possible to understand and comprehend the complexity of contemporary cities. Therefore the proposal has some urban studies; some geography; some sociology; and of course urban planning, public policy making and complex decision making. The two years project is the result of a multidisciplinary program called Alta Scuola Politecnica. The goal was to develop a process to reactivate an abandoned building by mean of creative production. We decided to enlarge the view by considering an entire territory which is momentarily underused. Exploring the abandoned train stations along the Val di Susa the idea is to create an interaction between the growing community of makers and the traditional artisans populating the valley. We developed a detailed step-by-step process that could obviously changed once applied to the reality but trying to be the most realistic as possible the project is enriched by an economic feasibility and a community approach, as well as a communication strategy The project is composed by a software and hardware part exploring the online potentials creating both a virtual and physical market and showroom for the new artisans. The goal of the studio was to work on the urban fabric on the exisitng buildings. The project developed a roof extension of a formal industrial building already transformed into a community service and public library. The internal disposition changed only in the right side of the building to maintain the public facilities working, and on the roof those public facilities had been increased and reinforced locating a kindergarten and a roof garden. Adding also an auditorium requested by the municipality and an appealing entrance with cafe and co-working area. To invite pedestrian to enter the building the ground floor is completely double hight and a wide tall entrance will be opened in the center of the long side. The surrounding area will be used as community garden to provide an occupation for the patients recovering in the existing rehab and also an alternative for the immigration dormitory already existing in the building. The kindergarten and the daily activities are mainly focused to integrate the immigrants and the locals providing new spaces and facilities. 10 ARCHITECTURE

The aim of the project was a cohousing in Torino. We had to focus on spatial distribution, interaction with the street and designing common areas as well as specific apartments for specific clients. For all the decisions took we had to support them with appropriate technological choices and drawings. The facade on south was enlarged to provide access to all the apartments and we put a grid of movable wood brise soleil to prevent solar gains. The core of the project was the internal courtyard, while the entrance from the street presented the same grid but with different functions; screening and gate. The plot was dark due to a high building on the south side, for this reason the choice to curve the internal facade and the attempt to give to each apartment the double view. The apartments are various depending of the target while the common areas are all located at the ground floor. Common areas include a workspace, a laboratory for artistic purposes and a big kitchen even if there is a private kitchen in each apartment.

DESIGN OF THE FRONT DESK
The task was to reorganize a old industrial building into a big office composed by 96 workers subdivided hierarchically. The idea was to maintain the spaces s open as possible due to the squared plan. There is although the need of smaller and private spaces that have been located in the corners. The center stripe have been dedicated to reception and distribution, transforming the staircases into relax and relational spaces. To guarantee a flexibility the furniture has been designed to be modular and movable. LONGITUDINAL SECTION PASSING THROUGH THE RECEPTION
