Front Cover: The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, students distributed turkeys as part of the Key Club’s annual turkey drive. Four hundred Portland-area families received complete Thanksgiving dinners. This year, Cheverus once again joined forces with 18 other Jesuit schools to participate in the Great Ignatian Challenge. The Challenge is intended to highlight the collective service power and generosity among the participating Jesuit high schools. Cheverus placed fourth among participating Jesuit schools for the second consecutive year
Sponsor James Rowen will donate $30,000 to Cheverus
Inside Cover: In October, students carved 250 pumpkins for the Camp Sunshine pumpkin festival, which supports the camp that offers respite and recreation to children with life-threatenting illnesses.
The Cheverus Office of Institutional Advancement has taken great care to ensure the accuracy of this report for gifts given between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. If your name was omitted or improperly noted, please accept our sincere apologies. If you notice such an error, please contact us in order that our records can be corrected. Thank you.

Dear Member of the Cheverus Community,
One must only walk our halls, cheer on one of our teams, listen to our talented faculty engage our students, or have a conversation with our students to witness the Spirit at work in our midst At a time in our histor y when we are bombarded with negative news and pessimism is prolific, a transformative Cheverus education is more important than ever.
The outstanding work of our faculty, staff, and coaches, would not be possible without your generous gifts. We are deeply grateful to collaborate in creating a hope-filled future.

This summer I had a chance to hear the Superior General of the Society of Jesus Arturo Sosa speak to the Jesuit East Province in Boston. Sosa said that when we look at the work we humbly undertake, we must imagine the fruits of Jesuit education. He said that we must imagine those graduates who live lives of human excellence, where each action – both large and small – is meaningful.
In this annual report, in addition to recognizing the many gifts bestowed on Cheverus, we shine a spotlight on the Class of 1957, who celebrated their 65th reunion this year. These men are the fruits of a Jesuit education. Their care for one another over the decades is a model of cura personalis.
As we reflect on the past year and draw inspiration from the strong foundation of alumni who embody the ideals of Jesuit education long after their graduation, I am certain that the best years for Cheverus are yet to come.
For Cheverus,
Fr Robert J Pecoraro, S J
Cheverus is an incubator of hope.
Year after year, the dedication of the Cheverus community shines forth in remarkable ways, and 2021–22 was no exception.

Dear Members of the Cheverus Community:
We are pleased to present this Annual Report, with highlights from the 2021–22 fiscal year, and with grateful recognition of the alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, and business and corporate partners who provided generous support for our school, our students, and our mission:
● Total giving to all program areas was $1.5 million in FY22, a 35% increase over the previous year, and a 53% increase over five years ago.
● Over that same five-year period, the alumni giving percentage has doubled.
● The FY22 Cheverus Fund closed on June 30 with $795,000 in currently spendable support, including $575,000 in unrestricted giving – the highest total in the school’s histor y.

● Contributions in support of current-use scholarship doubled between 2021 and 2022.
● The 4th annual Cheverus Giving Day on March 10th raised $142,171 from a record 539 donors, representing a remarkable 64% increase in dollars since our first Giving Day back in 2019. Of the 229 alumni donors, 21 were first-time givers to Cheverus. Mobile payment platforms such as Venmo, PayPal, ApplePay, and GooglePay accounted for 48% of all online gifts received that day.
● Gifts to endowment totaled $284,000, the second-highest total of the past six years.
● Event revenue from the Golf Classic, Online Auction, and Gala was the highest of the past four years.
● The 50th Reunion Class shattered all previous class giving records, raising over $100,000 to establish the Class of 1972 Scholarship, which will provide full tuition support for a student’s four-years at Cheverus. The Class also set a new record in 50th Reunion Golden Graduation Ceremony attendance.
We offer our sincerest thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, and donors who supported the Golf Classic, Homecoming, Class Reunions, Grandparents’ Day, the Cheverus Auction & Gala, and our alumni and parent gatherings.
Year after year, the dedication of the Cheverus community shines forth in remarkable ways, and 2021-22 was no exception. We thank you for your unwavering support of and belief in our mission, and we pledge to be responsible and trustworthy stewards of your extraordinar y generosity.
Sincerely,
Randolph H. Shaw Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Members of the Class of 1957 Reunion Attendees: Jack Ridge, Dave McCarthy, Steve Blodgett, Ted Duigon, Bob Frates, Jim Armstrong, Walt Duplessie, Remo DiMillo, and Jim Dunn.

Members of the Class of 1957 who are active in class activities but were unable to attend the reunion: Bill Snow, Don Cady, Frank Thomas, Marco DiSanto, Bill Giroux, and Tom Derry.
Also attending the banquet were wives of deceased class members: Pat Lee, Ginny Doherty, Cathy Harrington (Jim Banks's sister), and other members of the Banks family.

It has been 65 years, but Cheverus’ Class of 1957 still remembers their motto. Never forget a classmate.
I’ve been around the world, I’ve owned several businesses, I’ve belonged to many organizations, but the one that means the most to me is the class of 1957.”
Francis “Bubba” Doherty ’57
One thing that impresses me, is the way this class is there for one another.”
– Bob Frates ’57
The Class of 1957 holds a few Cheverus records worth noting First, they have the highest alumni participation giving rate, with 74% of the class supporting Cheverus annually. Second, this past September they celebrated their milestone 65th reunion with a reception and Mass followed by dinner. According to Jim Dunn, the acknowledged mastermind behind these events, the idea to reunite annually took off after their 50th Golden Graduate Reunion. They had so much fun that they decided to gather again for their 55th and have continued to meet ever y year after, with the exception of 2020
The agenda for each reunion is straightfor ward: to celebrate their friendship. Nine members were present at the most recent gathering, with one joining remotely from Holland. Time and distance are clearly no match for the spirit of ’ 57! Each year, sur viving classmates honor those members, including spouses, who have passed since last they met. Memories are shared, both before and after the Mass, of lives well lived in the ser vice of others “In a real sense, this memorial is the most important part of our reunion,” obser ves Mr. Dunn.
During Mass, the names of all the departed are read and a striking display of photos, lovingly maintained by fellow classmate Don Cady and his wife Ann, is placed at the front of the chapel. This picture display follows the group to dinner later, where an open mic allows the opportunity for anyone to come for ward to share their thoughts and stories. “ We don’t want to leave anything left unsaid,” Dunn, in his role as emcee, reminds the group.
the Class of 1957. ” Bubba died the following year after a battle with cancer, but his words still resonate with his classmates.
Bob Frates, diligent class historian, recounts with pride and impressive detail the way his fellows have lived out their Cheverian heritage. Lives where ever y action, large and small, is meaningful. “One thing that impresses me, ” he shared, “is the way this class is there for one another.” Whether that means bedside visits to classmates in the hospital, supporting loved ones after a death or celebrating their memor y, someone from the class is there. Time and again, the Class of 1957 demonstrates caregiving as the ver y essence of the Cheverus motto
