NASA A.S.T.R.O. F/S_2023_FIFTH_YEAR_TOPIC_STUDIO INSTRUCTOR_MICHAEL_FOX Submitted as a proposal for NASA's MUREP Partnership Learning Annual Notification (MPLAN), this habitat was designed with the emerging technologies of today's architecture industry.

By using a combination of Al, virtual and augmented reality tools, NASA and its future endeavors on the moon can be carried out with utmost efficiency. From the sculpted exterior shell, to the ergonomics of the research lab, this living space accounts for the hazardous environment of the moon as well as the various operations that can take place within it.

Visualizing the hexagon as a system of triangulated parts, the habitat can be transported, assembled, and reconfigured to adapt to different scenarios and workflows that may change throughout time.

The use of advanced technologies and innovative design approaches ensures that the habitat is not only functional but also flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing needs of NASA's lunar missions. This forward-thinking design approach allows for efficient utilization of resources and maximizes the potential for successful research and exploration on the moon.

As a member of the design and build team, my main role was to focus on designing the interior lab of the lunar habitat.

Drawing inspiration from science fiction and futuristic furniture design, I aimed to create a visually striking and functional space that would support the research and scientific activities taking place on the moon.

FOOTHILL GOLDLINE BRIDGE F_2022_FOURTH_YEAR_TOPIC_STUDIO INSTRUCTOR_JOHN_BOHN In this infrastructure project located in Pomona, California, my goal was to improve the pedestrian experience around the Flyover bridges of the Foothill Gold Line. These bridges were built to reduce car traffic but have become imposing barriers in the community. I wanted to address this by enhancing the pedestrian infrastructure and incorporating elements that celebrated Pomona's culture and natural heritage.

The main inspiration for this project was the vibrant and diverse culture of Pomona, represented by colorful and textured tiles. These tiles reflected the city's rich history and cultural influences, adding a unique touch to the infrastructure. Additionally, the project had a special focus on reviving a historic oak tree, as much of the green space in Pomona had been used for farming or regrowth of specific native trees, including oaks. Recognizing the importance of preserving the city's natural heritage, a significant portion of the project was dedicated to reviving and

conserving this historic oak tree. It symbolized resilience and connected the community to its past, providing a valuable green space for everyone to enjoy.

After assessing the existing pedestrian infrastructure, improvements in safety, convenience, comfort, and accessibility were identified as crucial. One specific area of focus was the Garey crossing, where I aimed to create a pedestrian-friendly corridor, aligning with the community's shift towards alternative modes of transportation like biking and walking.

Pomona has a rich agricultural history, particularly in citrus production. To support ongoing research and celebrate this heritage, the project incorporated public spaces and collaborated with local institutions and the California Department of Food and Agriculture. By doing so, the project became a research facility that engaged the community and celebrated Pomona's agricultural legacy.

SILVERLAKE MIXED­–USE HOUSING In this project my aim was to design a mixed-use development that would enhance the Silverlake neighborhood in California.

The concept revolved around creating a vibrant community space that would house a reading cat cafe and thrift store on the lower level, while providing much-needed affordable housing on the upper level.

The ground floor was dedicated to the reading cat cafe, a unique and cozy space where people could enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while interacting with adorable cats. The adjacent thrift store offered a curated selection of secondhand items, promoting sustainable living and community engagement.

Above the commercial spaces, I designed ten units of affordable housing, providing a safe and comfortable living environment for individuals and families in need. The goal was to create a sense of community within the housing units, while also ensuring privacy and a high quality of life for the residents.

To bring this vision to life, I created a set of drawings that showcased the layout and functionality of the project. The drawings included floor plans, sections, and site plans, providing a clear understanding of the spatial organization and relationship between the different elements.

Additionally, I incorporated technical aspects into the design, such as zoning considerations, fire access plans, and ADA accessibility, ensuring compliance with local regulations and safety standards.

The design development set also featured typology plans that explored various unit layouts, optimizing space utilization and providing comfortable living spaces. Detailed kitchen elevations and plans were included to showcase functional and visually appealing culinary areas.

Through this project, I aimed to demonstrate my ability to design a mixed-use development that seamlessly integrated community-focused spaces with affordable housing.

The portfolio of drawings showcased my dedication to precision and attention to detail, providing stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of the project's vision and execution.

At the heart of the vibrant Little Tokyo Art District in Los Angeles stands a visionary architectural masterpiece—an immersive manga art museum. Inspired by the notion of subtracting and colliding forms, the museum's design seamlessly blends sleek architectural elements with the dynamic interplay of cylinders.

Drawing influence from renowned architect Tadao Ando, the museum embraces the use of concrete as its primary material, both for the exterior and interior spaces.

The exterior facade of the museum is a testament to this architectural vision, with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic dominating the structure. The raw beauty of exposed concrete creates an elegant and contemporary presence, while the deliberate collision of cylindrical volumes punctuates the facade, serving as entry points and windows that offer tantalizing glimpses into the captivating world within.

Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by an inte-

rior that echoes the subtracting and colliding forms found in the facade. Curved concrete walls intersect and merge, creating organic spaces that guide visitors through the exhibition halls.

The collision of these forms results in a sense of fluidity and movement, mirroring the dynamic narratives and energy found within manga.

The use of concrete as the main material continues to shape the interior spaces of the museum. The smooth, polished surfaces of the concrete reflect natural light, creating a serene and contemplative atmosphere. These spaces, adorned with concrete walls and floors, provide a backdrop that allows the vibrant manga artwork to take center stage.
