C TEAM NEWS MESSAGE FROM OUR STUDENT CAREER LEADERS AspartoftheCareersTeamontheStudentSeniorLeadershipTeam(SSLT)forthisacademicyear, wehavetakenpartinawiderangeofeventsdesignedtoofferinsightandprovideopportunities linkedtofuturecareers.Ithasbeenabusyandproductiveyear,andwehavelaunchedinitiatives acrosseveryyeargrouptosupportstudentsastheyplantheirnextsteps.
OneofourfirstmajortaskswasinterviewingapplicantsfortheYear8StudentAmbassador positions Afterthoughtfuldiscussionswithanumberofstrongcandidates,weweredelightedto welcomeDaisyandViantothecareersteamasournewestambassadors.Theyhavealready joinedus,alongsideourambassadorsfromYears9to11,inregularmeetingswherestudents contributeideas,offerfeedbackandstayinvolvedinshapingcareers-relatedeventsacrossthe school.Recentdiscussionshaveincludedplanningupcoming“TalksonTuesdays”,future assemblies,andpotentialnoticeboarddisplays OurStudentAmbassadorshaveplayedavitalrole inraisingawarenessofandstrengtheningthecareersdepartment,andmuchofoursuccessthis yearisthankstotheirenthusiasmandcommitment.
OurteamplayedanimportantroleinboththewholeschoolandtheSixthFormopenevenings.We spokewithprospectivestudentsandtheirfamiliesaboutthesupportthecareersteamprovides andansweredawiderangeofquestions,includingsubjectchoices,opportunitiesforlearning aboutdifferentcareersandcareersevents.
SupportingYear11wasakeyfocusduringtheAutumnterm.Inassemblies,weoutlinedtheirpost-16 pathways,offeringadviceonchoosingthreeorfourA-levelsandexploringenrichmentoptions suchastheEPQ,GoldDofEandtheEnterpriseChallenge Withthediverseexperiencesandcareer interestswithinourcareersteam,wewereabletoprovideabroadinsightintotheopportunities availabletothem.Wealsosharedpracticaladvicetohelpstudentsstayorganised,motivated,and confidentthroughouttheirGCSEyear,whichwasparticularlyimportantinthelead-uptotheir mockexaminationsfollowingourassembly.
WewerealsoabletoshareguidancewiththeYear12studentsthroughassembliescentredon makingthemostoftheyearahead.Drawingonourownexperiencesfromlastyear,wewereable tosharehonestandhelpfulinsightintobalancingindependentstudy,workloads,extracurricular commitmentsandearlyuniversitypreparation.
JustbeforeChristmasweledasuccessfuldrop-insessionforYear11studentsconsideringA-level choicesfornextyear.Theywereabletospeakwithmembersofourteam,aswellasseveralYear13 volunteers,toasksubject-specificquestionsorheargeneraladviceandpersonalexperiences.
Mostrecently,wedeliveredwhole-schoolassembliestoraiseawarenessforNational ApprenticeshipWeek SeveralCGSalumniwhoarecurrentlyundertakingorhaveundertaken apprenticeshipssharedvideoswhichwecombinedwithapresentation Thisallowedustoeducate ourpeersaboutwhatapprenticeshipsare,theirbenefits,andexamplesofpopularpathways.
Throughalltheseinitiatives,wehopewehaveprovidedmeaningfulguidanceandvaluableinsight intoawiderangeofopportunities Wehavegreatlyenjoyedourworkthisyearandlookforwardto seeingwhatnextyear’sCareerAmbassadors,Caitlynn&Poppywillachieve Wewishthemthebest ofluckandhopetheyenjoytheroleasmuchaswehave.Finally,aspecialthankstoMrsLovelace, whosesupportmadealltheseeventspossible.
