Apple crop seasons vary but are generally September through October in Maryland. To pick an apple, roll the fruit upwards off the branch and give it atwist. Apples ripen from the outside of the treetowards the center, so the apples on the outsidebranches will be the ripest. Once picked, theystop ripening.
