About the

Medical Project

Many wounded soldiers require long and arduous rehabilitation. They were hurt in battle, but for many of them, the battle has just begun.

Successful rehabilitation is based on numerous factors.

Unfortunately, lack of data, medical expertise and access to cutting-edge assistive technologies often hinders the recovery process, and diminishes the wounded soldiers' already-low morale.

Established in 2013, BFL's Medical Project brings together top medical professionals from Israel and the United States to provide rehabilitating IDF soldiers and veterans with valuable second opinions, which help pave a strong path to recovery. Resources are pooled together to locate and secure appropriate assistive technologies that can improve their lives.

Over the past 6 years, the project has changed the lives of over 100 wounded soldiers, who received second opinions from top medical experts – both remotely and in person. As a result, 10 soldiers underwent life-changing medical procedures.

Paving the Road

to Recovery

Each project participant's medical files are sent to a professional panel that includes senior medical practitioners from Israel and the US. Once the panel decides to send a rehabilitating soldier to the US for review, the following steps are taken:

A delegation is prepared, and includes additional soldiers with similar injuries.

Each wounded soldier meets with 3 medical experts.

After recommendations have been made, BFL monitors the soldiers' rehab process to ensure optimal results.

In case a medical procedure is required, the project team coordinates all necessary aspects.

Meet

The Soldiers Below is a BFL member whose life was positively impacted by the Medical Project.

Barak Barak is 40 years old. He is married and has three children. During operation Defensive Shield, Barak led a team of combat soldiers that was hit by heavy enemy fire. Barak suffered serious leg and head injuries. For years, Barak endured severe pain, with no solution in sight. After joining BFL in 2017, Barak participated in a delegation that met with leading pain specialists in the United States. It was there that Barak was exposed to a unique pacemaker that is implanted to significantly reduce pain. In 2019, Barak underwent the operation, and has since experienced a significant reduction in pain. His life is now back on track.

$4,000 can send one injured soldier to the US for an examination that can alter the course of his recovery.

Brothers for Life, “Achim LaChaim" in Hebrew, is a non-profit organization created and run by wounded soldiers from Israel’s elite Duvdevan anti-terror unit and based on the unique model of "injured soldiers helping newly injured soldiers". Brothers for Life is currently working with over 950 injured soldiers and their families.
