WELCOME â
After a fantastic 2012 in which the Literature Festival sold a record 140,000 tickets and hosted internationally renowned speakers including Kofi Annan and JK Rowling, I am delighted to share with you all the launch of our 2013 programme. The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival continues to grow and develop and, with your support, we are dedicated to maintaining its position as a cultural beacon in the UK. A major highlight of my first year as Festival Director has been leading the creative and dynamic team that is so dedicated to sharing a joy of literature through this festival. This network extends beyond the Cheltenham Festivals organisation, and includes our advisors and volunteers, and of course, our sponsors and supporters, without whom we simply would not be able to bring the worldâs best writers and speakers to Cheltenham. Itâs the funding from companies, individuals and grantgiving bodies that enables us to create such a breadth and depth of programme, from the highest profile authors and cultural figures, to nurturing the newest talent in fiction and literature, and running our education work in the community. We are very excited about the programme this year and in this pack you will find plans for events that will stimulate, inform and entertain. If youâre as passionate as we are about the on-going development of the Festival, I hope that you or your organisation can support us this year.
