INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

HEIRLOOM HOTEL

The Client HGI has purchased the property which is in the city center of downtown Oakland, California. The existing building is a two storied retail space and will be replaced by a development of a new boutique hotel. The hotel will primarily serve business guests, and some tourists. It will feature a cocktail lounge, restaurant, and sky bar that are open to the public. It will be an eight story building and have an extended stay model.

ACOUSTICAL & FENESTRATION

Acoustical considerations need to be made for the Broadway facing West the building due to street noise and traffic. The top level of guest will also need consideration, as they will be below the sky bar which music, entertainment, shares property lines with adjacent buildings on either side. This will fenestration to windows facing the courtyard, the Western façade, and Eastern end. The courtyard will be fully illuminated at noon. The courtyard windows will receive natural light around on either side of noon as well, respective to their orientation. The Western façade will get the most light 1pm, and will be able to maximize natural light for the longest amount day. The best views will be Western facing Broadway. Secondary views

SUSTAINABILITY

Public transport access, walkability, and bicycle storage enhance wellness and cut emissions. Sidewalk trees shade the Western façade, lowering solar gain. While concrete’s high thermal mass aids in regulating building temperature, it also carries a significant carbon footprint. Enhancing sustainability could involve using high-performance windows, photovoltaic glazing, passive cooling methods, Energy Star fixtures, and LED lighting. Challenges include optimizing solar panel use beyond the roof and implementing passive cooling effectively due to limited cross-breezes and natural light on the lower floors, necessitating reliance on artificial lighting. eveleceratin nobit, volupindi storum quedolsnihitia volorem

The boutique hotel should be a glamorous encasement, like a velvet and glass jewelery box that holds dazzling objects as they bounce light

The Promise of a New

Day which will be expressed through an abstract sunrise motif as a symbol of hope, renewal, and light after dark times. It will be expressed through the repetition of arches, lighting that emits from focal points, and convergence between warm and cool tones in the color palatte. It will be a warm welcome to the refugee user group in need of community support through their transition to resettlement. The journeys taken, adversity faced, and cultural backgrounds of the users will be different, but they can share in the symbolism of the sunrise as it relates to their shared universal humanity. `
