Sebastian Mariscal Studio, Cardiff, California

The Phoenix House by Sebastian Mariscal Studio is a modern residence designed to visually contrast its environment and capture the unique phenomena of the Southern California coast. The most important aspect of this house is its concrete materiality, which was desired by the clients for its minimal appearance and resilience to the threat of wildfires. The chief architect of the Phoenix House, Sebastian Mariscal, is very experienced in designing structures under these climatic conditions and seized the opportunity to integrate exterior and interior spaces.

The purpose of the semester-long case study was to learn and apply digital hand skills. The deliverables were produced using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, as well as Sketchup and Vray. All work was recreated using references provided by the architect. The Hybrid drawing and diagrams were designed through my own understanding of the home’s architectural message.
