This historic clock house in St Leonards-on-Sea o ers the discerning buyer a truly unique home

Amagnifi cent Grade II listed fi ve-bedroom house on the south coast has come to the market for the fi rst time in 30 years.

The Clock House is a beautifully restored gothic villa, built in 1827 by the celebrated architects James and Decimus Burton. The father-and-son duo would go on to design Wellington Arch, the Palm House at Kew, and develop some of the fi nest residences in Bloomsbury and Regent’s Park.

This spectacular property is set across three fl oors, o ering fi ve bedrooms and ample entertaining space. From the main dining hall, an impressive arched gothic doorway leads out to mature, landscaped gardens with a secluded seating and bar area.

Situated on the edge of St Leonard’s Gardens, the Clock House is a two-minute stroll to the sea. It’s surrounded by Regency cottages and is a short walk from the town centre shops, restaurants and galleries. Highly regarded schools within the area include Claremont, Battle Abbey School, Vinehall and Buckswood.

The clock tower itself hosts four clocks by England’s greatest-ever clockmaker Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy. The sellers Kim and Paul Denman, a fashion designer and the bass guitarist for the multi-award-winning band Sade, say it’s “time for her to be loved by a new owner”.

“This gothic villa is truly a magnifi cent piece of history as well as a beautiful living space, with immaculate attention to detail,” says Ryan Quinn, sales negotiator at Knight and Knoxley, who is marketing the Clock House, Maze Hill at £2.5m.
