A letter from home

There is a hubub of excitement as The English Home team prepares for Christmas and we all look forward to gathering at home with our loved ones, making merry and enjoying the festivities to the full. It feels important to create a Christmas that feels special at the end of another challenging year for many. We also believe that preparing for Christmas should be an enjoyable part of the festivities. I always look forward to wrapping gifts, making gingerbread with my daughter and coming up with different ways to decorate the house and the festive table.

New ideas are always a welcome addition to favourite decorations and family traditions, so we’ve dedicated this issue to bringing you an abundance of inspiration for creating a magical but relatively fussfree Christmas. We hope you’ll find Preparing for Christmas (p64) a useful guide to adding festive touches to each room of the home, Festive Interval (p84) a welcome resource when planning for relaxed gatherings, and Handmade Christmas (p74) inspiring for those days set aside for creating homemade decorations and presents.

We are also grateful to the homeowners who welcome us into their homes to share how they decorate at this special time of year. Owned by creatives whose passion and vision inevitably fills their living spaces, these interiors are brimming with festive touches to emulate and advice to savour (from p18).
