Spiritual Emphasis Week 2024
A NOTE FROM MR. BRAZELL Students, I want you to know that you, yes you, have been specifically prayed for by name in preparation for this week. Some might not understand the phrase “Spiritual Emphasis” or the incredible value it can bring to your life. Some might even ask, “Why do we need something called Spiritual Emphasis Week? Isn’t that the goal of Christian education in the first place?” The answer to this question and the purpose surrounding spiritual emphasis at CHCA both begin with our mission and vision statement and are at the very core of who we are. This week we have scheduled intentional time to learn, reflect, and connect with Jesus. Our desire is that you will grow in your relationship with Him, strengthen relationships with your classmates, have accountability with each other, and foster a school culture where you feel bold enough to live out your faith. The importance of setting aside dedicated time in these spiritual areas can be compared to studying for a test, preparing for a program, or playing a scrimmage in athletics. Extra focus and energy are put into each of these events to better prepare yourself and your team for the future. Each day the schedule is filled with exciting and important activities that make up the school day. Spiritual Emphasis Week creates time to pursue deeper connections and an understanding of who He is, what He’s done, and the opportunity to take the first or next step to strengthen our relationships with Jesus. We hope you enjoy the daily devotions found in this book and find them meaningful. We are grateful for the intentional investment made by Pastors Chris Floyd and Jared Sisson to produce these for this week. We pray that your heart will be softened and that you are open to hearing His voice as you set aside time each day. CHCA’s mission, above English and math, is to provide you with an opportunity to hear the gospel, know the gospel, share the gospel, and live the gospel. Spiritual Emphasis Week teaches us to share God’s truth and spread His love. This week is more valuable than any quiz or tests we give. This is our mission as we keep the main thing the main thing! It’s easy for us to go through the motions and just ‘live’; Listen, there is SO much to be grateful for no matter how hard life can be and despite all the struggles we find ourselves in. I pray this week is a little bit different and we see reasons to be grateful. Start your day with gratitude, for each new morning is a gift from above. REFLECTION QUESTION How can you express gratitude today? What specific aspects of your day are you thankful for?
TUESDAY BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS. DO NOT BE FRIGHTENED, AND DO NOT BE DISMAYED, FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO. - JOSHUA 1:9
Life can be overwhelming at times. Between family, school, sports, friends, and everything in-between it’s stressful. It is such an incredible thought to know that God is with us in the middle of whatever we face or go through! We are never ever alone. In times of challenge, be strong and courageous. REFLECTION QUESTION How can you apply courage in the face of difficulties? How does knowing that God is with you impact your perspective on challenges?
TUESDAY SMALL GROUP REFLECTION QUESTION In what way do we seek our own interests? (Philippians 2:21) What does it mean to present ourselves as a living sacrifice? (Romans 12:1) What does it look like to be “set apart”? Discuss how counter cultural it is to live for Christ.
WEDNESDAY WHOEVER IS KIND TO THE POOR LENDS TO THE LORD, AND HE WILL REWARD THEM FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. - PROVERBS 19:17
In a world that is so ‘me’ focused it is easy to become selfish. I pray we begin to think of others first. Embrace kindness and compassion today. REFLECTION QUESTION How can you actively show kindness to others today? What motivates you to be compassionate?
THURSDAY WALK WITH THE WISE AND BECOME WISE, FOR A COMPANION OF FOOLS SUFFERS HARM. - PROVERBS 13:20
Over and over, scripture talks about the importance of the people around us. Over-time we become who we surround ourselves with. May we have friends that encourage us and push us closer to Jesus. Choose your friends wisely. REFLECTION QUESTION What qualities do you look for in a friend? How can your choice of friends impact your personal growth and well-being?
FRIDAY AND WHATEVER YOU DO, WHETHER IN WORD OR DEED, DO IT ALL IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, GIVING THANKS TO GOD THE FATHER THROUGH HIM. - COLOSSIANS 3:17
What you say and what you do matter! Listen, people look up to you and people watch you. May we choose our words wisely and may we always be aware of our actions. I pray that everything we do points people to Jesus. Today, reflect on your actions and words. REFLECTION QUESTION How can you align your actions and words with your faith today? What areas of your life can be transformed by doing everything in the name of the Lord?
