Participants drop their raffle rickets at the fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity in partnership with Revera Retirement Living. Held at Chatham Retirement Resort on Aug. 21, this is the second year Revera has organized a local event to help raise money through raffle draws, a BBQ and live entertainment for Humanity’s annual home build. This year’s recipient family’s house is currently being built on Woods Street in Chatham. In addition to the fundraiser, Chatham Retirement Resort employees will be donating money throughout the year from their casual clothing Fridays to help provide a full Christmas dinner to the family and Christmas gifts for the kids.

Clay and glass on display at TAG The Chatham Voice

The Thames Art Gallery (TAG) will present two new exhibitions, starting Aug. 30 and running to Oct. 20.

Featuring work by some of Ontario’s foremost potters and glass workers, Fireworks 2019 and Fuel celebrate some of the best artists working in these media today.

Opening reception is on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. and many of the artists will be on hand. This event is free and open to all.

Fireworks 2019, a celebratory exhibition of handcrafted works in clay and glass, is organized by Fusion: The Ontario Clay and Glass Association.

Fireworks exhibitions are juried and assembled every two years before traveling across Ontario.

The talent and creative spirit of Fusion members is well recognized and this exhibition features some of their finest efforts.

Formed as a complement to Fireworks, Fuel represents a group of five

local potters whose work provides a substantial response to the vision and artistry on display in the gallery. Displaying finesse in both form and surface, it is a show not to miss.

Fusion president Chris Snedden will be attending the opening reception. For those unable to enroll in Snedden’s workshop on clay and slip decoration held earlier in the day, the opening will be a chance to meet him and enjoy the insights and perspectives of this respected Canadian potter.
