Local bartender’s creation to be featured in commemorative book

Julie Brooks’ love of making Caesar beverages raised some eyebrows and interest with the makers of Mott’s Clamato.

So much so that she’s to be featured in the Mott’s Clamato 50 Years, 50 Stories book celebrating the Caesar.

Brooks, manager at Bar Our Back (B.O.B.’s) in Chatham, learned of the contest by Mott’s to be part of the book, so she entered and told her story.

“I have customers who love my Caesars,” she said proudly. “I make them with pride.”

She also makes them

with a vast assortment of ingredients, depending on the desires of the recipient.

She’ll ask a customer if they want mild, medium or hot, and if they choose hot, do they want Frank’s Red Hot hot or Siracha sauce hot.

“If you give someone a Caesar that is just too spicy for them, they won’t drink it,” she said, explaining her versatility with the spice level of each Caesar.

Brooks said she interacts with customers as close friends, or even relatives.

“My story includes the fact that everybody is like a family. People come in for a ‘Julie Caesar,’” she said.

When The Voice caught up with Brooks, she’d just finished making a Caesar with Hungarian sausage, shrimp, olives, a cherry tomato, pickled onion, the obligatory pickle, a hot pepper, Worcestershire Sauce, hot sauce, oh, and vodka and Mott’s Clamato.

She said she has even used candied bacon in her beverage making.

All that effort resulted in her opting to enter the contest with thousands of others around Canada, but her dedication got her into the top 50 and a spot in the book.

Brooks has been tending bar for two decades, and enjoys the following she has earned for her Caesar creations.

At a recent Chatham-Kent Police Services Board meeting, Chief Gary Conn signed on to get extra mental health support for police officers, fire personnel and ambulance staff suffering from operation stress injuries such as PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).

WWC is a national mental health charity started initially for soldiers stationed in Afghanistan in 2001, according to executive director Scott Maxwell. The intent was to support soldiers with care packages from home, and once the mission wound up, the focus of the WWC adapted to include soldiers coming home suf-
