No easy solutions

Capt. Positive is busy these days with all the positivity taking place around Chatham-Kent. He took the time to stop off recently at the Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent home project on Woods St. in Chatham, at the same time a crew of positive volunteers from Home Depot was on hand. They built a back deck on the house with materials Home Depot also donated. Members of the Chatham-Kent Professional Firefighters Association also worked on the property that day, building a fence.

The CK Prosperity Round Table, working with Family Service Kent and many community agencies, has been working on how to effectively tackle the societal issues

associated with poverty and has been having discussions with community members, business owners, people living in or with poverty, addiction and mental health issues, including the continuing problem of property crimes and the current “catch and release” style of justice. A complex issue, there is more to people living in poverty, however, than just people on social assistance or the homeless. Continued on page 9
