Sydney Sweeney and Amanda

Seyfried Set Up Camp In Madison

A new movie full of stars is currently being filmed less than a mile away from Chatham Day School

Recently, rumors have been spreading that a new movie full of stars is filming in and around Madison. The movie is called The Housemaid and is set to star Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The movie is based on the book of the same name and follows a housemaid (Sydney Sweeney) who moves in with a rich but suspicious husband and wife (Amanda Seyfried) and realizes that things just don’t seem right. The movie will likely be a thriller and releases on December 25th, 2025

Because of all of the talk of the filming, the CDS press team decided to go right to the source. After a short walk, the team arrived at the house where filming is taking place. After taking some photos, a member of the production team agreed to speak to us.

We talked to a production assistant named Paxton Dolan and asked if there was any information that he could give us about the movie. He confirmed that the movie is called The Housemaid and said that they will be filming at the house for one month While he was not able to state whether they would be using other locations in the area, he confirmed that the house is beautiful and that the owners have been on the set from time to time.

After speaking to him, we observed the large amounts of equipment for lighting and sound, we saw the transportation team, food trucks, and even heard the director yell action. Shortly thereafter, we were approached by a man. He politely informed us that we were “f****** up the scene” and that we had to move Turns out they were filming at that moment and we could be seen through the window inside the house

For anyone wanting to go check out the set, the house's address is 158 Green Ave, Madison, NJ. The house truly matches the mansion that is described in the book and is priced by Zillow at around $3.8 million. You can’t miss it based on the number of people, cars, and vans around the set. And make sure to go see the movie when it comes out next December to see all of the local NJ sights!

California Wildfires Rage Across the State, Prompting Evacuations and Emergency

Declarations

Wildfires are currently burning across California, putting many homes and businesses at risk. Even the famous Hollywood sign feels the heat from the flames Right now, about half the state is on fire, causing tons of damage and forcing people to leave their homes

Evacuations are happening in different areas as firefighters work hard to put out the fires and keep people safe. Smoke and ash are covering a lot of the state, which is worrying because it can make the air unhealthy to breathe. Residents are being told to stay informed and be ready to evacuate if needed

These fires are not just destroying homes right now, but will also have long-lasting effects on the environment and local jobs. As firefighters fight the fires, the California community is coming together to help those who are affected, showing how strong and supportive Californians can be during tough times.

Authorities don't yet know what started the wildfires that forced tens of thousands of Californians from their homes, but politicians, residents, and experts have already begun to assign blame for the tragedy. The fires are fueled by California's very dry conditions and a lack of moisture in remote areas making the fires hard to put out. In addition to this, research is ongoing regarding the possibility of a connection between the wildfires and New Year’s fireworks

For those interested in helping people impacted by the fires, the L.A. Fire Department Foundation, American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, and California Fire Foundation are great places to donate. CDS students will be announcing a way to work together to help those impacted by the fires soon.

Should TikTok Be Banned?

Supreme Court Ruling on TikTok

Tiktok is a social media platform consisting of short form videos that are uploaded and includes a shop where consumers can purchase creator products TikTok began in 2016 and has grown strong over these eight years. Their parent company is ByteDance. Tiktok will be banned from the US on January 19th because of security concerns connected to China. This Supreme Court decision has caused some outrage with people saying Tik Tok is safe and others saying that TikTok is a security problem.

Those who believe that TikTok is safe and should not be banned have some strong arguments. In their minds, TikTok is a very important app to many people. It can help spread awareness about current events, promote small businesses, and support content creators. It can be a good way of broadening interests and discovering new things; for example, many of my favorite books I learned about from TikTok, I learned many crafts from TikTok like paper stars, ribbon flowers, different types of origami, and junk journaling. It is a good place to find recipes and inspiration for art There are many good parts of TikTok, and so many memories and pop culture events will be lost if it is banned.

Storybook Court: Full of Beans Performed by CDS Presents

On December 13th and 14th, the CDS Presents Crew performed the play Storybook Court: Full of Beans. The play takes place in a fictional courtroom full of fairytale characters, like Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, the Three Little Pigs and Pinocchio.

Performing with CDS Presents is open to anyone from 5th - 8th grade, and the directors of CDS Presents are Mr. Gordon and Mr. Buchanan, who both have many years of musical and acting experience in plays, movies, and commercials. In total, the play had over 20 actors or stage crew members, so it was a big play with a lot of people involved.

I went to watch the play when it was performed as a preview for students during the day and rewatched it again on opening night I personally think it was one of the best CDS Presents plays I've seen. The play itself was very funny, with the play's opening line explaining that the entire trial was completely fictional, and that absolutely nothing was real. Throughout the play, there were many star roles that stood out to me, specifically the Magic Mirror, Little Red Riding Hood, Fairy Godmother, and Jack. All of the people in the play were fantastic, especially the fairy tale characters in the background, who had occasional lines that made the play more entertaining, such as Bear’s statements about everything being “just right” or the Three Little Pigs working in tandem.

While I had some doubts going into the play, as I knew nothing about it, I am happy to report that it was definitely worth watching twice and I can't wait to do a review of the next CDS presents musical! Pirates of Penzance will be on stage in May!

New Disney+ Spiderman

On January 26, Spiderman comes to town

There is a new upcoming Spider-Man show called Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney+ The show is about an alternate universe where Norman Osborn recruited Spider-Man instead of Tony Stark. The show will release on January 26th with ten episodes and will be the first Marvel Project of 2025.

The reactions to the trailers have been mixed. Some critics like the new style while some report being concerned with the plot and overall feel of a lack of action Finally, some report that the changes surrounding the background of the characters reflects a focus on being woke

When interviewing local CDS students, including Spider-Man fan Ryan Hughes, one said, “I say it needs a better plot because it’s kinda stretching out from what Spider-Man was as a person who fights villains like Doc Oc, and he also doesn't feel much like the Peter Parker we are used to ” When interviewing another local CDS student and Spider-Man fan Ilies Benhadji, he had this to say, ”I feel like the concept is okay but I feel like Spider-Man himself is different from what he was. I feel like the mentality is different and he changed not for the better and lost some of his kindness.”

Getting closer to the release date, the opinion isn't as good as Marvel hoped for it to be.The woke allegations are also a problem when the show is about to release People are still hopeful that it will start Marvel's make or break year with a bang.

Season 2 of Squid Games: Better Than The First?

Popular Korean action show Squid Games released season 2 which has garnered lots recent attention. But is it really as good as the first season? (includes some spoilers)

Season one of Squid Games launched on Netflix in the USA on September 17, 2021, and was an instant success. People loved the characters, plot, and the gore It came as a shock to many that a show about people playing Korean childhood games for money could be so violent. The show includes lots of shooting, stabbing, killing, and swearing which has garnered it the MA rating. In the first season, we follow our main character, Seong Gi-hun, in his struggle to survive after being laid-off from his job His backstory is complicated, but in the end he needs money because wants to get back custody of his daughter, who is moving out of Korea. He ends up joining the Squid Games as player 456, and he plays Korean Childhood games with 455 other contestants for a massive cash prize These games include red light green light, dalgona, and the famous Squid Games. Contestants soon find out that losing these games gets you killed. It soon goes from peaceful to violent, and contestants will do anything to win.

After leaving the games he goes back into his depressed life, and it ends on a cliffhanger with him re-joining the games. This ending left many people waiting for season two, which has garnered similar amounts of attention as season one.

Many shows often struggle to make a good season two after a successful season one, but Squid Games delivered. Season two introduced more amazing characters and an equally good plot. They kept the story the same as season one, just adding more details and a different end goal Instead of trying to win the games this time, in season two, player 456 (he keeps the same number) tries to save as many lives as he can by warning everyone, since he's played the games before. I won't ruin the plot, but I will say that it ends on another cliffhanger, making everyone excited for season three

At the end of season one, the main character player 456 eventually wins by killing his childhood best friend.

In summary, after watching season two, I can definitely say season two of Squid Games is worth the hype. I would highly recommend watching it if you like a great story with lots of gore, although I would recommend only ages 13+ should watch
