letter from the rector Dear Friends, One of the greatest pleasures in life is sharing a meal in the company of friends and loved ones.

Food literally brings us to the table, providing a reason to gather, allowing us to nourish our bodies and souls. Since coming to Chatham Hall, I have learned that Chatham Hall girls, regardless of class year and team color, love food.

At alumnae receptions I am regaled with stories of Brunswick Stew and Cherries Jubilee. On prospective student panels, our students speak most passionately about favorite offerings in the dining room (home made chips, anyone?).

And while what we eat is important, the event too, has meaning. As an observer, I see firsthand how cookie break infuses joy, seated meals foster community, and advisory dinners satisfy our taste for connectivity.

“I didn’t have homesickness at Chatham, and I think a large part of that was because there was just so much love and warmth around food.”

Jennifer Quainton ’96’s career has taken a unique path that has traversed both food and the arts.

A

graduate of Denison University, she moved to New York upon her graduation with an Art History degree and a dream of being the next great modern art curator. She landed a coveted internship at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she worked on the 2000 Biennial Exhibit and learned that maybe her love of art was best served as a spectator, and not “mired in the politics behind the scenes.”

She then interviewed with the Head of Programming at Food Network for an administrative position, and has been there ever since. As a lover of all forms of art, she was drawn to media. “I knew I wanted to be in media in some form, because I really liked watching tv, movies, and listening to music,” she said, “I had never taken a production class, and had no idea how any of this came together, I just thought it seemed like it would be a really cool thing to do.” Sixteen years, and a lot of hard work later, she is now Vice President of Programming, leading the development and strategy for Cooking Channel and Food Network’s daytime content, where she gets to combine her “love of art and storytelling with an insatiable appetite for food.”

In her younger years at the company, Jennifer began working on acquisitions, and was tasked with watching every single episode of Iron Chef Japan that came in the door.

Three years after she started working with the company, Food Network decided to launch Iron Chef America. “I had never worked on a set before, but my boss at the time said, ‘You have watched every episode of Iron Chef

Japan, you have to come.’ So all of a sudden, I was on a business trip out to L.A., and we were shooting Iron Chef America on the Terminator 3 soundstage. At that moment, I thought, “This is what I want to be doing. This is amazing.” The work wasn’t always glamorous, “But I felt like I was at the right place, and I got to work on Iron Chef America for nine seasons, and that opened up more doors for me.”

Four years later Jennifer was promoted to a different title, and was asked to oversee the strategic development for Cooking Channel. “It was a trial by fire moment for me. I had always been very much behind the scenes on the business side. And not only was I putting together budgets and spreadsheets and talking to distribution teams to try to get content inexpensively, but I was tasked with Talent and Production development.

It was a great time for me to grow and spread my wings into a different area.”

Jennifer attributes much of her success to Chatham Hall, where she was able to become comfortable with her voice. “You couldn’t really be shy at Chatham. There are no corners to hide in. It was a very well-rounding experience that has benefitted me to this day. Just the fact that I could do and be so many things at Chatham was so beneficial. I could be the Gold Team Captain, I could take art classes, I could

be a jock and a nerd. I’ve definitely had moments where I’ve doubted myself, but the great thing is that I still have all the resources I need within me, and I think all of those came from being at Chatham.”

“Most of my memories from Chatham are somehow tied up with food...John Henry’s Cherries Jubilee are a standout. Also, every morning my freshman year, I would eat a plate of bacon, and John Henry would always make sure I had two pieces of cinnamon toast. And I love the fact that he’s still there,” Jennifer reflects, “I didn’t have homesickness at Chatham, and I think a large part of that was because there was just so much love and warmth around food. I think food is how people come together. Ninety-eight percent of engaging with people is around food.

It’s meeting up over food, it’s connecting with people about what they love. It’s universal in its language. And I love food. I will never deny myself food, whether it’s high end, or it’s a bag of Doritos. I am totally fine with either. I love Doritos.”

Chatham Hall Cherries Jubilee 2 (15-ounce) cans whole Bing cherries in juice, drained and juice reserved 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1/4 cup kirsch or cognac, warmed 2 pints vanilla ice cream

In a small dish, combine a little cherry juice with sugar and cornstarch. In a skillet, heat juice from cherries over moderate heat. Add cornstarch mixture.

When juice thickens, add cherries to warm through. Pour in warmed liqueur, then flame the pan to burn off alcohol. Remove cherries from heat. Scoop vanilla ice cream into large cocktail glasses or dessert dishes and spoon cherries down over ice cream.

A RECIPE FROM THE KITCHEN OF JENNIFER GAMMILL MCKAY

Gumbo

This is a recipe collaboration between Lynn Gammill and May Harper (my mother and my other mother who raised me and taught me how to cook, our housekeeper). I’ve added a few things myself, but only minimally.

On an annual fishing trip in Minnesota and Ontario in 1996, Jennifer Gammill McKay ’84’s mother looked at Jennifer and her husband, Kennard, and said, “Y’all look miserable! Have you thought about a career change? Maybe something to do with food or wine? After all, ya’ll are ‘food snobs.’”

Set aside time to do it right, Gumbo can’t be rushed!

For the roux: 1 c. Flour 1 c. Bacon Drippings (you can sub if you’re trying to be healthy but trust me, it won’t be nearly as good) Black Cast Iron Dutch Oven...If you prefer you can do roux in skillet and transfer to your favorite enamel coated Dutch oven.

o the duo added a few extra days to their trip and made a decision that changed the course of their lives. By June of the following year, they had sold a house and car, divided their family when they found someone to adopt a dog and cat (taking the other dog and cat along for the journey) and moved to Vermont to attend the New England Culinary Institute.

Jennifer and Kennard knew they didn’t want to be in the restaurant business after culinary school, but wanted to stay connected to the industry and their love for cooking, wine, and travel. And so, The Kitchen Table, a specialty culinary store in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was born, and Jennifer and Kennard are living out their dream of combining their culinary knowledge, sales knowledge, and passion for food and entertaining. In addition to providing customers with everything one could need for the kitchen, from measuring cups to artisan pasta to glassware and linens, The Kitchen Table offers classes that appeal to the beginner cook as well as to the experienced cook. Customers are encouraged to roll-up their sleeves and enjoy the talents of guest chefs offering classes ranging from Stocks and Sauces to Pasta, as well as themes like Southern Cooking, French Bistro, or Asian Appetizer.

As a small business owner, Jennifer wears all hats: salesperson, buyer, bookkeeper, program organizer, social media manager, culinary-program coordinator, display organizer, class assistant, dish washer, and on a very rare occasion, instructor.

Jennifer, who always helped in the kitchen growing up, and was spoiled with good food because her Grandmother lived in New Orleans, gets the most joy at work from inspiring people to cook, an act that brings families together. “Our society has a sincere need to return to the family ‘kitchen table’ environment where technology is not allowed at the table and conversation encouraged, ” she says. Food is both physically and spiritually the most important part of Jennifer’s life. “It’s what brings our family together at the kitchen/dining table and at the altar to break bread in communion.”

Inspired by the original Sur La Table store in Seattle in the mid 1980s, Jennifer is proud to be a local family-owned business flourishing in the midst of “big box stores that squeeze the little guys out of community built businesses.” “Thinking back to my original inspiration of Sur La Table, it’s a funny feeling since it has followed the path of Williams-Sonoma and Starbucks to be

When reflecting on her memories from Chatham Hall, where Jennifer’s daughter Sarah Crosby is now a freshman, the singing of the blessing before seated meals and images of the smiling faces of the dining hall staff are standouts. “Archie’s smile greeting us at breakfast, and my dear friend Coleman who made things run so smoothly. I miss them dearly. Oddly, it’s not a ‘food memory,’ but rather the events and people around the table that are the memory most cherished.”

You’re moving to a new kitchen in five minutes and can only take one gadget along with you.

What do you grab and why?

Chef’s knife—it can peel, chop, smash, flip (probably more) just about anything, and in a pinch can be a self defense weapon (who ever got scared of a wooden spoon? But that might be my second choice).

What’s in Your Basket?

School Historian, Dr. William “Bill” Black, and retired French teacher Mary Lee Black show off their basket (a souvenir from a Chatham Hall trip to Amboise, France) of goodies from Chatham’s Competition Alley Farmers’ Market. Launched in July of 2015, the market was started through Chatham First by Chatham Hall biology teacher Amy Davis, Bill Black, and Cherie Guerrant from Piedmont Sustainable Living. The market boasts fresh produce and flowers as well as pasture-raised meats, eggs, baked goods, local honey, crafts, and even chair massage! “Because every dollar you spend is a vote for how you personally want the world to be, you, as a consumer, have enormous power to effect positive change in your community,” says Davis adding, “I have a vision of a Pittsylvania County that is renowned for its good, clean, honestly priced and produced food—food that people everywhere know they can trust to be fresh and healthful —and so they come here to buy it.”

The market is seasonal and runs every Tuesday, 4:30-6:30 p.m., in Competition Alley from around early May through October.

Stir flour into drippings, stirring constantly to avoid lumping and burning. Continue to cook roux until the color is right (dark red brick is what I look for). Learned a trick in culinary school...you can put in the oven and stir occasionally vs. slaving over the stove to keep it from burning, but it takes longer.

Add onions, celery, and garlic as your roux is darkening, and continue until desired color (the darker the better, more flavor). Add tomato sauce and cook until grease rises to the top. Add stock, okra, and seasonings. Cook for another 60-75 minutes. Add shrimp 20 minutes before serving.

If you have a heat sensitive audience, put the Tabasco (or your favorite hot sauce) on the table.

Serve with Louisiana Long Grain Rice and chewy French bread for authenticity.

FAVORITE CHATHAM HALL FOOD:

Annie Clarke Ager ’68 Beautifully perched in the majestic peaks of rural Asheville, North Carolina, sits Hickory Nut Gap Farm in all its glory.

O

ne hundred years ago, in 1916, the setting captured the hearts of James and Elizabeth McClure, grandparents of Annie Clarke Ager ’68, whilst they honeymooned at the Sherrill’s Inn on the property. Captivated and eager for a new adventure, the Chicago based couple purchased the land (900 acres, now 800 with 464 under easement) and historic 1800s farmhouse on the property and made a life there. Formerly a Presbyterian minister who knew almost nothing about farming, McClure delightfully moved on to life as a farmer, running a small dairy,

growing Hickory Nut Gap Farm with

son Jamie Ager and his wife Amy joined the business, taking over management of Hickory Nut Gap Farm. Jamie and Amy have cultivated a powerful partnership with Bass Hyatt, who exclusively raises grassfed cattle, a practice that is healthier for the environment, farms, and consumers. The Agers and Hyatt met in 2000 just as more sustainable meat systems were entering the market. Hyatt provides premium beef, and the Agers handle marketing and buyers. In addition to their work with Hyatt, the Agers have further strengthened the local food system in Asheville through partnership with roughly 15 producers in the region.

On a daily basis the farm is bustling with a myriad of activities ranging from horse camps to barn dances to kitchen and butchery classes. Annie, who is still actively involved in the daily operations of the farm, cares for the laying hens each morning, and each afternoon she teaches horseback lessons...other than that a typical day could involve anything from caring for baby pigs to preparing for a wedding (yes, Hickory Nut Gap Farm also serves as a picturesque event venue!). Annie is also busy running Hickory Nut Gap Farm Camp, which she started with her sister Susie Clarke Hamilton ’64. This day camp offers trail rides, art, pottery, sports, music, theater, and even lessons in breadmaking!

Hickory Nut Gap Farm, as stated so eloquently in the Agers’ own words, “is more than a collection of pastures. It’s a gathering place for neighbors, visitors, and families–spend time picking berries, frolic in the creek, and get a firsthand view of a local food system and the animals we raise.”

kitchen and butchery classes. selling hogs, and growing corn, wheat, rye, apples, and potatoes.

Annie’s mother, Elspeth McClure ’40, married Jamie Clarke in 1945, and along with other members of the McClure family, enjoyed working the farm (and raising their eight children there) and running the Farmer’s Federation. Years later, after beginning a career in politics, first serving in the NC Senate in 1976, then the United States House of Representatives in 1980, and running for Congress in 1982, Jamie gradually turned much of the farm work over to Annie.

And so Annie took on egg and apple sales, and her husband, John, who had previously taught school for eight years, managed the dairy. Annie, a true lover of people, had to quit delivering eggs when she realized she was doing too much talking and not enough delivering! As the farm grew increasingly more successful, the family eventually developed other markets, and opened a farm store and restaurant. Hickory Nut Gap Farm products–including beef, pork, poultry, and apples–can be found at local businesses, restaurants, and farmer’s markets, as well as at Earth Fare stores throughout the Southeast, Whole Foods, and of course, at the Hickory Nut Gap Farm Store. Upon graduating from college, Annie and John’s

Chatham Hall enjoys an extraordinary tradition of preparing young women to transform our world. By nearly every measure historically, we have been successful in this endeavor, inspiring generation after generation of young women to thrive in any culture, economy, or circumstance. What makes a Chatham Hall graduate

unique, however, is not her ability to thrive, but the imprint she leaves upon her environment. Chatham Hall girls change the trajectory of our world—for good.

In speaking to this concept, a beloved alumna once noted, “The world needs more Chatham Hall girls.” So, it is no accident that our strategic plan carries this forward. Empowering Girls to Better the World is our strategic plan that writes the next chapter in our history. The plan lays out three goals we will pursue to achieve our strategic vision: Enhance & Fortify The Student Experience Inspire Global Learners & Entrepreneurs Ensure our Sustainability & Competitive Position In the coming weeks all members of the Chatham Hall Community will receive a full written case statement that provides a dynamic roadmap for our future.

Last year, in concert with the strategic planning process, Chatham Hall elected to engage the school community in a process to determine a new look for a school logo and graphics that reflected a visual shorthand for our brand.

The initial fact finding began with a series of workshops and conversations with different groups to get a sense of what “Chatham Hall” meant to them. Over the course of the year we spoke with students, parents, faculty and staff, and trustees to try and verbalize what essential parts of the school experience resonated with each group. While we collected many different responses and points of view, we also found that there were particular words and themes that were consistent across all of the conversations.

Ultimately, the words that we heard the most related to lifelong friendships forged between Chatham Hall girls, the role of traditions in the history of the school, our spiritual tradition (including the honor code), and the beauty of the campus.

Introducing the new logo for Chatham Hall All elements of the logomark have been pulled from the school seal, which serves as an important symbol of the school’s history: •A : The crest from within the seal creates the outer shape of the logomark.

Informed by the community conversations we set out to find a creative agency to translate these experiences into a visual expression of the Chatham Hall experience or “brand.” We were committed to partnering with people who would take the time to get to know Chatham Hall and after a rigorous search we selected Square Spot Studio, a boutique agency whose motto “creative thinking for the greater good” immediately resonated with us. Last spring Square Spot came to campus to get to know us first hand, meeting with students and faculty and spending several days experiencing everything from cookie break to a senior chapel talk! In addition to developing a rapport with the school they also began a deep dive into the history of the school via the meticulously curated traditions book from Cathy LaDuke, keeper of traditions, as well as reviewing stationery and print materials from many different eras of the school.

We tasked Square Spot with creating a suite of graphics that included new logos and a slight revision of the school seal (for marketing and graphic design purposes only; this does not affect rings or preexisting iterations). We also asked that the designs be able to have a visual through line from print to digital presence so that we could have visual consistency from our stationery to admissions materials extending to bookstore merchandise and even the new website (launching in January 2017!).

The resulting logo is comprised of elements found in the school seal, each with a distinct meaning: The overall shield shape is found within the school seal and is derived from the coat of arms of the family of William Pitt, First Earl of Chatham. In the new logo design we chose this to have a visual callback to the seal and to represent the whole of the school. Within the shield shape is a gold cross used here to speak to our Episcopal heritage. The fleur-de-lis shape is a symbol of a European iris and as the iris is the school flower, is used here to represent the girls of Chatham Hall. Finally, the circles which also come from the coat of arms (bestowed upon an ancestor of the Earl of Chatham by Henry VIII after he had the temerity to best the king at checkers), are here used to represent a sense of place.

From the oculus of The Well to lantern ceremonies, to classes around a harkness table, the sense of community at Chatham Hall is often expressed in the round. The new logo and graphics are meant to reflect the long history of the school and the student experience at Chatham Hall in a way that feels both familiar and fresh.

Welcome, Anna-Karin Li DIRECTO R O F GLO BAL AND STR ATEGIC INITIATIVES Chatham Hall is thrilled to announce the appointment of Anna-Karin Li as Chatham Hall’s Director of Global Strategic Initiatives.

As defined in our strategic plan, Anna-Karin’s position is far extending. A professional with outstanding international educational experiences, she is leading our efforts to introduce educational programs and initiatives to markets around the world, and to continue to enrich the global opportunities of Chatham Hall girls.

Anna-Karin is familiar with the boarding school world. She attended Loomis Chaffee in Connecticut and has worked in a number of boarding schools throughout her extensive educational career. Anna-Karin holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Oriental Studies and a concentration in Chinese.

She also holds a M.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studied East Asian Language and Literature, as well as earned her certification in ESL. Anna-Karin has held teaching and administrative positions at schools across the United States and the globe.

She has a wealth of experience in launching ESL programs (Idyllwild Arts Academy), working for start-up schools (Keystone Academy in Beijing, China) and Directing Programs (International Educational Opportunities) and teaching (Fay School, Thacher, Yale University, and many other elite educational institutions). She is an outstanding professional to guide us in our exploration of global educational opportunities.

Activities included the National Honor Society Induction, class visits, a Cultural Celebration Chapel service, a New Family luncheon, senior athletic recognition, dancing and bluegrass music at the Rectory, and a “Planning for College” workshop. Chatham Hall also hosted an Interscholastic Equestrian Association horse show during the weekend, resulting in a championship finish for our team of riders!

Lee Yardley Day On September 23, 2016 Chatham Hall recognized its 30th annual Lee-Yardley Day by presenting the Alice Overbey Award to Timothy J. Clark of Gretna, Virginia. This award is presented each year to a member of the Chatham community who has “done the most for Chatham Hall,” contributing in such a way to promote and help Chatham Hall’s mission. Clark, husband of Gretchen Blair Clark ’92, is the Vice President of Blair Construction and his work has supported the design and construction of several major projects at Chatham Hall over the years.

He has advised on numerous matters for the school, ranging from how to best support the infrastructure of the school’s buildings, to providing introductions to area leaders. Currently, Clark is working to build the front entrance of the school, connecting the Chatham Hall campus to the greater community.

ITALY: Slow Food. Rich Culture – Food for Thought C LAUDIA MOHAM E D ’1 8

I had the opportunity to travel to Italy for nearly four and a half weeks through Student Diplomacy Corps this summer. In my program, I specially focused on the slow food movement that contributes to rich Italian culture. We spent the first week of the program exploring Rome, learning basic Italian phrases, and sampling every flavor of gelato we could find. The next leg of our journey took us to northwestern Italy where we swam in the turquoise-blue Mediterranean and watched a local chef craft our dinner. Next, it was our turn to learn the age-old art of Italian cooking and at one of the top cooking schools in Italy. We learned recipes for risotto, foccacia, veal, and of course, homemade pasta. I spent the next ten days doing a homestay with an Italian family comprised of my host mom and twin sisters.

I learned what daily life in Italy is like as we took daily trips to the Adriatic seaside, helped our mom cook dinner, and visited Venice. We concluded our trip on a sustainable farm in the Italian countryside. During this once-in-a-lifetime trip, I learned the importance of knowing where food comes from.

JAPAN: Sushi Dreams and Sustainability J OAQ U I NA G U E VAR A ’17

This summer I was able to travel to Japan with the Student Diplomacy Corps. “Sushi Dreams and Sustainability” centered on food culture and sustainable living in the 21st century. We spent four weeks immersing ourselves in Japanese culture. Because food is such a prominent facet of any culture, this is where we began. We attended cooking classes in Kyoto, where I learned how to prepare sushi and many delicious and common Japanese meals. During my homestay in Hokkaido, I barbecued mushrooms with my host sister and helped my host parents cook our daily rice. In Tokyo I visited the largest fish market in the world, Tsukiji. While exploring the nearly 4 million square feet of vendors, we sampled everything from dehydrated shrimp to steamed sea urchin. We did not just eat, we also learned about the

history and processes of making many of the dishes we tasted.

We heard a lecture on the importance of umami, the fifth taste, compared different types of rice, and tasted stock made from different types of seaweed and bonito fish flakes. Later in the trip we visited kelp fields where we learned about the many health benefits of eating seaweed and helped farmers with the morning harvest. While not everything I ate was to my liking, each dish was a culinary adventure and expanded my tastes.

IQUEST: Sustainable Farming of Oysters to Improve the Quality of Water in the Chesapeake Bay Oysters are integral to the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay due to their ability to filter vast amounts of water. The reefs that they build on top of one another also form valuable habits for other organisms.

It is estimated that at one point the oyster population in the Chesapeake Bay could filter all of the water in the Bay in just one week—a task that now takes around a year to complete given the extremely diminished oyster populations.The oyster population has been decimated by overharvesting, habitat loss, and disease.

Recently, there has been a movement to establish small-scale oyster farms around the Bay region. Through this project,

I established my own small oyster farm, researched the effectiveness of these oysters on improving water quality, interviewed scientists from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, and investigated how smallscale farms could be promoted in my community. I found that oyster farms prevent overharvesting, while improving the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Small-scale farms can take some of the pressure off the recovering oyster populations, and oyster farming is significantly more sustainable than harvesting wild oysters.

Richard earned a B.A. from Auburn University, an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is the Senior Vice President and CFO of Carmike Cinemas, Inc. He is the past Chair of the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, and is an Emeritus member of the Auburn University College of Business Advisory Board. He and his wife, Charlotte, reside in Columbus, Georgia. They are the parents of Chatham Hall junior Catherine Hare ’18.

Melanie serves on the Board of the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, the Board of Visitors for Salem Academy and College, and the Board of Eaglebrook School. Melanie has been a class agent for Chatham Hall and served on the Alumnae Council from 2013–2016.

Emma attended the University of Mary Washington, earning a B.A. in Classical Civilization, and graduated in 2009. After interning in the Chatham Hall Advancement Office post graduation, she moved to New York City where she currently serves as the Communications Manager at Rodeph Sholom School, where her husband also works. They happily reside in Manhattan with their Bernese Mountain Dog.

Annette earned her undergraduate degree at Hollins University, where she later earned a Master of Liberal Arts Study with a concentration in Studio Art. Annette lived in Roanoke, Virginia for 25 years, working with children at the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center. She currently lives in Bath County, Virginia. Annette has previously served on the Alumnae Council for 12 years, and has been a loyal supporter of the Annual Fund for 32 years.

Debbie graduated from Goucher College, and received her Master’s at Oglethorpe University. She taught Kindergarten for thirty-five years in private and public schools north of Atlanta. She retired in 2014, and is enjoying traveling, exercising, volunteering, singing in her church choir, and participating in book clubs and Bible studies.

She has three sons and six grandchildren.

Jan graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in International Studies. She studied public health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and completed her Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She is a Public Health Advisor with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She has worked on guinea worm in Ghana, polio in Pakistan, and Zika in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Jan currently calls North Carolina home.

A graduate of Southern Methodist University and Texas Christian University School of Ranch Management, John is Partner and General Manager of Runnells Pasture Co, LTD. He is the President of the Matagorda County Community Foundation, Past President and Director of the Matagorda Episcopal Health Outreach Program, and has served on the Steering Committee for the Matagorda Regional Medical Foundation. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Bay City, Texas.

A graduate of Georgia Tech, Laurel lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where she oversees marketing and communications for The 410 Bridge, a nonprofit whose goal is to empower impoverished communities and create sustainable change. Laurel is an avid traveler, and has most recently visited Bangkok, where she worked with people fleeing human trafficking and exploitation in the sex industry.

Elizabeth is a graduate of Vassar College and received a Master’s in Creative Writing from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. She started her career in the book publishing world, assisting and editing at Penguin and HarperCollins in New York City before transitioning into jewelry design.

After moving to San Francisco, she returned to publishing via Chronicle Books where she is currently on staff as an editor of fashion, craft, and wellness books. Elizabeth is a native of North Carolina and the mother of Mary Temperance “Tempie,” born in August 2014.

Wendy Bradley, an outstanding professional who has served as Dean of Students at a number of esteemed boarding schools, fills Chatham Hall’s Dean of Students position this year after an exceptional year as the School’s Director of the Annual Fund. Ms. Bradley has worked at Deerfield Academy, The

Vivian Webb School, Kings Academy in Jordan, and Keystone Academy of Beijing (the last two of which she also helped found). She is recognized as an exceptional school person. She has served as a house parent, advisor, coach, and is respected for her development of support systems and adolescent

growth curriculum. Her background includes professional experience as a mental health clinician and she holds a masters degree of science in counseling and psychological services. In addition, Ms. Bradley holds a license in social work.

WRITER IN RESIDENCE Lee Smith, author of—among others—Fair and Tender Ladies, Oral History, The Devil’s Dream, Guests on Earth, 3 collections of short stories (most recently Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-Eyed Stranger), and the 2016 memoir Dimestore: A Writer’s Life– will be our Writer in Residence March 1–2, 2017.

Smith is particularly noted in the field of southern literature (she sets many of her works in the Blue Ridge mountains). Her award winning and critically acclaimed works are by turns sad and funny and are always, always character and story-driven. Smith is a graduate of St. Catherine’s and Hollins University. She was born and raised in Grundy, Virginia, and currently resides in Hillsborough, North Carolina, with her husband, journalist Hal Crowther.

Her talk to the school community will be Wednesday March 1, 2017 at 7:15 in the Lecture Hall. A book signing will follow. In addition to her talk, while on campus Smith will lead a creative writing workshop, attend classes, and have dinner with the faculty book club.

50th Reunion Reflections BY SARAH YARDLEY ’66

Do you know what today is??? I love asking our girls this question, and I love it even more when they respond with a rousing, “IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A TURTLE!” Fall sports started in earnest this year with this very question.

As the new Athletic Director here at Chatham Hall, I have tremendous shoes to fill. Picking up on the great efforts of Jane Allen ’00, the impressive legacy of Cathy LaDuke, and the colorful history and pioneering spirit of Miss Wagoner, it is easy to stand in awe.

Starting with a nearly full slate of new coaches this fall, there was no time to sit and ponder the legacy of our

department (that will happen in a future edition of Chat... stay tuned!). We needed to hit the ground running, and to the credit of our girls and our coaching staff, our Turtles have risen to the occasion. We saw record turnout for both the Field Hockey and Volleyball teams. We are still checking the history books to see when we last fielded JV and Varsity teams in both sports in the same year!

Sarah is the daughter of The Rev. Dr. William Yardley and Helen Yardley.

Dr. Yardley served as the Rector of Chatham Hall from 1949–1971. Sarah and her siblings, Jonathan, Jane Yardley Amos ’59, and Benjamin, grew up on Chatham Hall’s campus. Sarah is a member of the Class of 1966 and recently returned to campus for her 50th Reunion.

The Chatham Hall campus was my home for twenty-two years, from when I was one year old until my father retired in 1971.

I played in the woods, climbed the trees, used the library, went to school plays, rode the horses, overheard adult conversations, spied on faculty meetings, and worshipped all those smart, kind, funny Chatham Hall Girls. I went to every graduation and cried every time. When it came time for me to go to boarding school, I wanted to be a Chatham Hall Girl myself. My father explained that I would have to accept the same limitations as the other girls, living in the dorm and coming home only on

was a dinner at the Rectory for the 50th Reunion class. Rector Suzanne Buck and her husband Johnny could not have been more welcoming, and there behind the bar was John Henry Waller, age 87. What a kick to see and talk with him. The next day, I was moved to tears at the Oak Tree Dedication, listening to the choir, and singing the Alma Mater at the alumnae meeting.

There was a forum with students on Saturday. The girls were open, friendly, confident, articulate. But I found myself wondering, how strong were the academics?

We welcome Nan Hambrose as our new Athletic Director. Mrs. Hambrose brings a wealth of experience to the role of Athletic Director having served in this position at the Glenelg Country School in Maryland. In addition, she coached for numerous years at the collegiate level in the women’s basketball programs of St. Mary’s College, Seton Hall, Loyola University, and Wagner College. Mrs. Hambrose has also held other leadership posts in the realm of athletic administration.

She has served as the Executive Director of the Baltimore Board of Officials for Women as well as the Director of Leadership through Athletics. Ms. Hambrose was a student athlete at Rowan University in New Jersey where she earned her B.A. and played Basketball and Lacrosse. She holds a certificate in athletic administration and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree of Science in Sports Leadership from Northeastern University.

Chatham Hall Riding

The riding program has been traveling quite a bit since their return from the Interscholastic Equestrian Association Nationals in Kentucky last spring. Five students and six Chatham Hall horses spent a week at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Virginia in April resulting in several ribbons and strong competition results. In May and August, students and Chatham Hall horses traveled to Sedgefield Show Grounds in Greensboro, North Carolina and competed and gained several Division Champion titles. Over the course of the year, riders will be spending more time on the road including showing a week at Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina over March and returning to the Lexington Spring Premiere at the Virginia Horse Center in April.

felt free to question. I learned the pleasure of living in a community with a shared purpose and values, where people watched out for one another. I was surrounded by people who loved knowledge, learning, and the arts.

And I experienced the power of worship. vacation, and that even so I would always be “the headmaster’s daughter.” We talked about other schools, but I was adamant, and I went to Chatham Hall.

My partner, Bob Clemens, and I retired recently and decided to take a long trip around the US and Canada in a motorhome.

The first stop for us was Chatham Hall Reunion. The School invited us to stay on campus for the weekend. I was thrilled.

The big question in my mind leading up to Reunion Weekend was, would the school be “OK”? What does “OK” mean? To me it means trust between campus members, strong academics, infrastructure in good condition, and a spark of challenge, honesty, and questioning .

Friday afternoon Bob and I ran into two alumnae at the flower garden. As we were chatting, I saw that they had graduated in 1971 and blurted, “You were in my father’s last graduating class!” They answered, “Oh, he helped us so much. We were the school’s first African-American students.” Thank you, Gloria Bond Clunie ’71 and Venita Fields ’71 for your kind words. I was so glad to meet you after all these years. And Gloria was on campus not only for Reunion, but as this year’s Distinguished Alumna Award Recipient and Writer in Residence.

The school had a slate full of activities for the weekend. Friday evening there

Sunday I took a bicycle ride into town, circling back to Reid Street to visit the Brunings. Mr. Bruning (I can call him Ted now) is as much fun as ever, full of stories and opinions, busy with projects, albeit at a reduced speed at age 87. It meant the world to see him and his wife, Marty, again.

Later, I walked on to Faraway, where the Wrights had lived. On my way back, I saw Suzanne relaxing in the back yard. Ha! No rest for the Rector! I called out and tromped over to her. She was gracious as always (Did I mention how welcoming she and Johnny had been, inviting me to explore any corner of the Rectory that I wanted?). Later she, Johnny, and their nine-year-old daughter Halsey came by to visit us in the motorhome, and Halsey and I talked a bit about growing up in the Rectory.

Monday we went to classes. I went to English, math, art, biology, Latin, and physics. I think the classes were better academically than 50 years ago. In freshman English, the class discussed

linguistics in preparation for reading Julia Alvarez’ How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents. The discussion focused on developing definitions of language and of storytelling, with an emphasis on a neutral and egalitarian view of different languages and dialects. In geometry, the girls were learning to distinguish between the altitude and the length of the vertical leg of triangles and parallelograms, so that they could calculate areas. The class was lively and fun.

My favorite class of the day was Latin. The girls were studying gerunds and ablatives by translating questions from English into Latin. The girls were so cheerfully engaged in the class. In physics, the lesson involved the calculation of static electrical forces between objects. Impressive that the girls are studying this, and learning it. In anatomy, skin was the day’s topic. The teacher was emphatic and fun to listen to. Assembly was run by students. Presentations were brief and lively. A bit of teasing back and forth between students and faculty kept it fun. At the end of the academic day, I was beat. I did not go to gym!

My thoughts after spending time back at Chatham Hall are that the school is OK... more than OK! The campus looks great, classes were challenging and fun, girls were friendly and cheerful, and teachers engaged.

And Suzanne Buck is a strong, articulate, self-effacing, warm leader, a very good role model. Go to your Reunions! What a great thing to see old friends, visit old places, remember your youth, and get perspective on your life.

Joanne Shartle Anderson It was Andy’s 65th reunion at Middlesex this year. He loved his school and still has a very good friend from his class, Tom Bisbee, whom Laurie knows from Milton, as he taught there for many years. As we were going to fly east , I wanted to see two sisters who live back that way, so we flew to Albany to see sister Mary Shartle ’67 who lives near Saratoga Springs. Then we drove all across Massachusetts (with a stop at my beloved Smith College, for a visit to the Art Museum, which is wonderful now, thanks to a huge gift from my classmate, Isabel Brown) and then on to Concord to Andy’s reunion. Ten of the surviving 15 of his class were there, some more decrepit than others, but it was good to see all of them, and I loved hearing them reminisce about their boyhood days. I also took the opportunity to go stand by the rude bridge that arched the flood, where first the embattled farmers stood, and fired the shot heard round the world.

It always brings tears to my eyes. Then we drove up to Portland, Maine to see sister Sarah Shartle Meacham ’51 and had dinner Monday night at the Black Point Inn with Sarah and Chris Sawtelle Teale ‘51, who is in the same place as Sarah, Piper Shores. Very interesting, much of the table conversation at Middlesex was about considering these places. Andy and I have thought about going to one, to relieve our children’s fears, as they think we are ancient. One of them, Jane, is coming in a few weeks to drive with us to Santa Fe to our summer place there.

Jane De Hart My husband Jerry Cohen and I had a wonderful trip to Europe last summer with short visits with old friends on the shores of Lake Annecy in France and Geneva, and then on to Istanbul for a memorable week. After a cruise up the Danube to Budapest, we sped on to Vienna for another wonderful reunion with other old friends which included a night at the opera. Altogether it was a wonderful beginning for a summer, the remainder of which was consumed by Jerry’s recovery from a total knee replacement.

This spring brought yet another reunion in New York with Chatham roommate Betsy Hulick ’54, who recently translated, illustrated, and published 30 Poems by Christian Morgenstern (available on Amazon.com). Then after a professional meeting in Providence, which Spring had 1951 Sarah Shartle Meacham ’51 and Saffron Sharifi ’19 at a honey extracting party

not yet visited, it was back to sunny but still drought-stricken Santa Barbara to complete the last chapter and epilogue of my legal biography of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg which Knopf expects to have out in 2017. In the meantime, Jerry and I plan to celebrate our 30th anniversary in September in New York, catching up with friends, Broadway shows, the latest MOMA exhibits, and other delights.

Hopefully, 2017 will provide an opportunity for a visit back to Chatham.

Caroline Ramsay Merriam My husband, Duke, and I still live in Georgetown in Washington, DC. We have three living children, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. We go to Jamaica in the winter, France in the summer.

It is a bit primitive, but they do their best. We took Stuart’s cousin to Winterthur for a tour and met a Chatham grad named—I think Lea.

Mary Duncan Bicknell Have had a fabulous year so far.

Three of my grandchildren live near me, so I am able to see them often and enjoy watching them grow up. I am playing more Duplicate bridge now and get to have nice visits with Margot Steenland Cater ’60. A real highlight was taking the family to Disney World over New Years. I was delighted that I could corral my two sons, their wives and five granddaughters. (They want to do it 1959 Ann Weir ’59 and Lala Mapes Maresi

I have just had a nice visit from Frances Johnson Lee-Vandell ’60. I am so glad she could come and the time passed too quickly. I plan to go home the first week of October. I hope all is well with the rest of you.

Margot Steenland Cater We were amazed at this mime, holding his pose for so many minutes at a time! We stopped in London and Paris on the way to meet our group in Montreux, Switzerland for a glorious stay on Lake Geneva back in May this year. Back at home, we enjoy three grandchildren in Houston and in D.C. I am playing lots of bridge these days and doing an ongoing outreach project for our church in Houston. We have spent two months each summer in the Blue Ridge Mountains at Linville, North Carolina for the last 14 summers. It has been a lovely second home for us.

Audrey Sawtelle Delafield Joe and I are loving life here at Piper Shores in Scarborough, Maine. We are in a “cottage” which is great as there is more flexibility than in the main building.

If I could offer any advice for those of my classmates who are considering moving to a retirement community or something similar, it would be this: start downsizing EARLY on in the game! We must have given away 200 or more books, and we started months ahead of time to do this (it was hard; both of us love books!) We also decided early on what furniture to keep, what to give away, what to put up for auction.

Many people told us that it is better to come to a place like this earlier rather than later, so that we could more easily meet other residents, take advantage of all the activities, etc. that are offered, and that was good advice. My mother wryly called a retirement community a “departure lounge”–and I guess that is what it is, but it’s a pretty nice way to wait for that final journey!

Susan Huntington Fisher Life is good, finally life without wanting anything, very freeing, and delighting in what comes. Have a small counseling/ teaching practice around the work of Thomas Hora (PAGL.org). It is based on the premise that all suffering is psychological, but the healing of it comes from Spiritual understanding.

Children, sailing, skiing, enjoying the country and city continue to bring peace and joy. Love growing up!

Eleanore Lee ’60 So hard to wrap my head around the idea that we Creatures of the Sixties are actually getting old!

I’m still enjoying being retired and having an opportunity to putter away at my writing. Last April we were back in DC for the funeral of my aunt Priscilla Lee Campbell, the youngest child of Edmund and Lucy Lee, and the last of that generation. She spent several of her childhood years at Chatham Hall.

Priscilla was 94. She and her family left China (escaping on a gunboat) in 1927— so she was only about six. If I am correct, Grandfather got hired by Chatham Hall in 1928—so she must have been seven or eight when she started living there. And

she lived there with her parents until she went off to the Madeira School as a boarder, and then on to Vassar. She did interesting work as a social worker and— unusual for her era—worked close to full time her whole adult life—even with the two sons. And at the end of June we got to welcome the newest grandchild, Willa Browning. Grandchildren: I have four.

I don’t know how common it is to have this major an age range. The oldest is 25 and works in NYC and the youngest is this new one, Willa, who is about six weeks.

Frances Johnson Lee-Vandell I can report my changed address: 2860 Pea Ridge Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901. After 33½ years. Now I hope to concentrate on the reconstructed house as it’s livable but has a lot of construction yet to go.

Besides the workmen with me, I have the new-type farmers with me. So far 950 chickens, and more coming. Also cows. Maybe hogs. The chickens get moved around 1–2 times a day. There are interns, one of whom wants to rent a room. I’m still unpacking. I took a break and went to visit Mary Duncan Bicknell ’60 in the North Carolina mountains outside Asheville last week. Gorgeous home with hummingbirds and flowers.

Ann Davenport Mavroleon Dixon Well done on all those who contemplate downsizing and moving! I came to England with one suitcase in 1983, my only downsize moment. Our house is now crammed to the gills with mostly my “things”; and the thought of moving makes me weak in the knees–anyway weaker than my knees already are.

Any tips on throwing away books?

Elizabeth Walter-Echols My husband’s and my life in Germany remains stable. I still teach language to and do volunteer work for the many refugees who have settled in our area of Germany. The laws they are subject to get more and more complicated, so the work gets correspondingly more demanding, but the rich benefits remain the same, dealing with wonderful human beings who are surprisingly open and warmhearted considering what they have been through. You feel you get far more than you are able to give! Just now we’re in the US, in our daughter Marjorie’s current home outside Greenville, South Carolina. Today the whole patchwork family, Marjorie, husband Dave and four children (ages 10–16) all go off to Myrtle Beach for a four day stay. Dave works as a consultant and trainer for a medical software company, currently in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It’s been 1½ years since we were together, far too long, so it’s a very happy reunion!

Meanwhile, there are five grandchildren, not to mention countries, to visit. Barry and I are still married after 47 years. He travels a lot for business which accounts for that little miracle. We have bought a small condo in Sarasota, Florida in which to escape the New England winters.

I always said that I was not a Florida person, but it turns out, I am. Anyone else observe that they spend the latter part of their lives eating the words they proclaimed in the early years? If there are any Chathamites in Sarasota, give me a shout. My mom died last year at the age of 91. I seem to have been one of the lucky people who had a good mom and I miss her terribly. I hope others in the class of 1961 are holding up okay, continuing to enjoy good health, and life itself. Warm regards to all.

Nancy Stitt Starting about three years ago my partner and I made the decision to become expats and had been researching where to explore.

We figured we would try out several countries over the following year and then pick one to start living in. We considered Ecuador, Costa Rica, Italy, Greece and Vietnam and Panama.

Panama was the last on my desire list because it seemed so uninteresting and where people went to deep sea fish and launder money, neither of which I had desire to do. However, it was the easiest to go for a trial: cheap flight from south

Florida where we lived and the easier use of the USD and English. Anyway, when we traveled by car across the country I was so glad (and bemused) to find the Panamanian people warm and welcoming and generally happy.

Having lived in Florida three blocks or less from the beach for 25 years, I figured that with so much coastline I would find a nice beach town. And one that lacked the glitz and glamor and pressure to be part of the youth culture and consumerism where I was living in Palm Beach county. Anyway, the beach towns were not a delight in Panama. We made our way to the western highlands and found Boquete. I fell deeply in love within the first four days. Look it up, check it out, you might fall in love with this place too. Funny thing, I have always been a traveler and often said I worked so I could travel, and now I just like being here! For the first time I don’t have the itch to wander. We have been full time residents for over two years now. It is a simple lifestyle in a small mountain town. My gypsy spirit and intellectual needs are graciously met here. There are over 2000 expats here in this pueblo. Eclectic bunch, with adventurers like us enjoying a charming and calm and busy retirement, and also weird conspiracy theorists and people running from the US because of financial or government fears, and former hippies and lots of people that had intense careers in business, academics or helping professions. I have taken up birding (now that is

weird) and love finding new trails going to lost waterfalls. I have gone to yoga teacher certification and practice as a student with yoga buddies. Tom golfs in our community three days a week by walking out the front door. The simple sign at the entrance to our part of town says “Bienvenido al paraiso.”

Elizabeth Reynolds and daughter Anne Randall participated in the Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project in Wise County, Virginia this July 22-24. Elizabeth and other volunteer dentists provided free care for 1,232 people at the 17th annual dental clinic. MOM projects proved preventative, restorative, and surgical dental treatments for more than 4,000 low-income people each year. Elizabeth was also recently listed in Virginia Living as one of the best dentists in Virginia.

Elizabeth Ferlise Hill I married the love of my life, Jonathan Hill, June 25th at Chatham Hall. Having been the Crucifer of St. Mary’s Chapel my senior year, it was nice to be walking back down the aisle, but this time as a bride. My maid of honor was one of the first girls I met at Chatham and has been standing by my side ever since, Savannah Anderson ’11. It was the perfect day. Chatham Hall played a vital role in shaping the girl I was in high school and I love that it is still such an important part of my life years after graduating. Following our honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast, we are enjoying married life in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Former faculty member Ruth “Sarge” Wicker Lynch died June 7, 2016. “Sarge” worked at Chatham Hall in the late 1980s and early 1990s serving as a housemother, community service organizer, and advisor to international students.

Former faculty member Jorgette Mauzerall died April 21, 2016. Jorgette taught English and dance at Chatham Hall from 1978–1982.

Mrs. Mary Minter died August 11, 2016. Mary was a beloved member of Chatham Hall’s housekeeping staff from 1958–2003.

The Reverend John Ruef, former faculty member and beloved member of the greater Chatham Community, died October 31, 2016. The Rev. Dr. Ruef was Chatham Hall’s Chaplain from 1985–1993. He was Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chatham.

C H AT H A M H A L L Polly Wheeler Guth ’44 died peacefully in June 2016 in the presence of her daughter, Holly Olga Davidson ’70. Polly was a member of the Chatham Hall Board of Trustees from 1996–1999 and became a Trustee Emerita in 2001. Throughout her years of engagement with the school, Polly was committed to providing girls with the opportunity to recognize the world beyond that with which they were familiar. She believed in pushing boundaries and encouraging students to engage in discourse and ideas. To this end, she endowed the Leader in Residence Program, ensuring that every Chatham Hall girl would gain exposure to female thought leaders and luminaries from around the globe and in different fields. Polly was dynamic, thoughtful, and made a difference to so many people and organizations. She celebrated friendship by making contributions to the school in honor of the dearest relationships that grew from her time at Chatham Hall. A top benefactor, her philanthropy has made an indelible impact on our beloved School. We are grateful for Polly’s role at Chatham Hall and in the many lives of individuals who loved her. She will be dearly missed.

Mr. Channing Howe died June 26, 2016.

Channing was a long serving trustee who worked tirelessly on behalf of Chatham Hall. The father of Pamela Howe Small ’69, Channing was a dedicated member of the Chatham Hall Board from 1966–1981. He served as Chair of the Board of Trustees from 1972–1976. Channing was committed to ensuring Chatham Hall’s financial security.

His experience at Hollins College (now University) as Treasurer prepared him well to think strategically and bring a lens of fiscal sustainability to his service at Chatham Hall. Channing was respected by all who knew him and will be remembered with great affection.

Boyce Lineberger Ansley ’64 It is with sadness that Chatham Hall marks the passing of Trustee Emerita, Boyce Lineberger Ansley, who died June 20, 2016. A member of the Class of 1964, Boyce was a passionate steward for her beloved school. She served on the Board of Trustees from 1976–1996, serving as Chair from 1979–1981. In this role, Boyce worked tirelessly to keep the doors of Chatham Hall open. During a time of leadership transition, Boyce flew weekly from Atlanta, Georgia to support institutional operations. Also at this time she combed the country seeking funding from key donors to secure the school’s financial security. Boyce believed in the mission of Chatham Hall and felt the world needed Chatham Hall graduates.

Boyce’s magnificent legacy is one for which we are incredibly grateful. Boyce was preceded in death by her mother Anna Boyce Rankin Lineberger ’31, and is survived by her daughters Anna Ansley Davis ’90 and Florence Ansley, sister Anna Lineberger Stanley ’58, and cousins Lillian Lineberger McKay ’48, Harriette Lineberger Steele ’50, Louise Lineberger Roberts ’53, Alice Lineberger Harney ’56, Jane Lineberger Huffard ’56, Lillian McKay Teigland ’72, Katherine McKay ’75, Margaret Baker ’87, and Anna Sloan ’10.

Alice Overbey, former Bursar and Business Manager, passed away at the age of 91. A longtime dedicated servant of the school, Alice was instrumental in serving Chatham Hall and helping keep its doors open during some financially precarious years. The Alice Overbey Award was named in her honor and is given each year at Lee-Yardley Day to a member of the Chatham community who has “done the most for Chatham Hall,” contributing in such a way to promote and help Chatham Hall’s mission. Alice is survived by her daughter, Terry Overbey Stafford ’68.

In hopes of offering a mind-expanding experience to their daughter, Louis and Helen Young of Connecticut enrolled Caroline Young Moore ’54 at Chatham Hall as a sophomore in 1951.

Caroline flourished at Chatham Hall, eventually being awarded with the Rector’s Medal upon her graduation, the highest of honor at Chatham Hall. Caroline and her childhood sweetheart, John, retired to Aspen, Colorado in 1982, where they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. We extend our deepest gratitude to Caroline and John for remembering Chatham Hall in their estate plans, and for their dedication to Chatham Hall.

In honor of their 50th Reunion, the Class of 1966 funded the design and implementation of beautiful new gardens surrounding the Rectory. The Rectory was featured as part of the Garden Club of Virginia’s 2016 Historic Garden Week tour.

Thank you to Lisa Rosenberger Moore ’59, Brett and Elizabeth Rule P’16, Hallie Bettcher Pettegrew ’86, Carolyn Carter Yawars ’66, and Robin Hanes ’73 who enhanced campus aesthetics through supporting one or more of the following projects including Pruden Refurbishments, Rectory Refurbishments, and a Campus Tree Framework Plan. Pruden’s beauty has been enhanced with much needed attention to the flooring in the Well and transverse hallways. The new oak flooring looks spectacular! The Rectory, which serves as a family setting away from home for the girls, and as a space for entertaining the school’s most significant guests including Leaders in Residence, visiting families, and Trustees, received gorgeous renovations in the dining room and foyer. And finally, a campus tree plan ensures the good stewardship of our beautiful and beloved campus trees.
