outh aged between 16-24 years from Chase and across the Shuswap community are invited to attend the Together Shuswap Building Bridge for a Better Future Community Forum, at Quaaout Lodge on June 10th. This forum will engage residents of all ages from across the Shuswap, and will offer youth a chance to connect with other youth from the region, share their perspectives

with community leaders and bring their voice to the conversation about community wellbeing and quality of life. Throughout the day, emphasis will be placed on the value youth bring to the community and engaging youth in a meaningful, lasting way.

I am a relative “new comer” to Chase, having been here just a little over a year now and loving every minute of it! I just have to say that shortly after moving to town I discovered the “Sunflower” news.

This little paper was most helpful in my orientation and familiarization to the local area as well as providing info for any upcoming activities. The many business ads also provided a good sense of local goods and services. As much as I enjoyed the original “Sunflower” I must give kudo’s to the new owner/operators for the added articles as well as interviews of residents of this beautiful little spot on earth.

Nine Stories by JD Salinger Known for his novel, Catcher in the Rye, Salinger has some other wonderful writing that doesn’t get talked about as much, including this compilation of short stories.

His characters have a distinctive edge to them, melancholy histories of their own that help you see how dynamic they are. It’s difficult to explain, but there is a humanity to all of their flaws and inconsistencies that characters often lack in books.

From The Laughing Man, about a teenager leading a group of boys towards adulthood, to Just Before The War With The Eskimos, where

assumptions and impressions are cast aside, this book is full of excellent stories.

S omehow, the fact that the author rarely appeared in public and didn’t allow interviews, makes his writing even better. They are truthful pieces, from a unique author who didn’t conform with the normative, selfpromoting behaviour of the famous.

Spiced Rhubarb Soup Ingredients: 8 cups rhubarb, diced 3 1/2 cups water 1 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons cornstarch 1/4 cup water 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice Directions: Combine rhubarb, 3 1/2 cups water, sugar, cinnamon and salt in a saucepan.

Bring to a boil; simmer uncovered for 20 minutes.

Strain to remove pulp.

Return to the pan and bring to a boil.

Combine the cornstarch and 1/4 cup water and add to the rhubarb.

Cook and stir 2 minutes.

Remove from heat and add lemon juice.

Refrigerate until chilled.

Serve with dollops of yogurt.

Canada Day is fast approaching and the Community Liaison has been tasked with coordinating a fun filled day. Maybe you have an event or idea for Canada Day that is new and entertaining and would like to see it implemented, now is the time to bring those ideas forward. This month many communities in British Columbia are promoting “Bike to work week” in an effort to bring about increased awareness and to encourage cycling as a viable alternative to other forms of transportation not Shuswap Avenue during last July’s Canada to mention promotion of health and Day parade healthy lifestyles.
