Message from the Mayor

Being on evacuation alert for almost two weeks now has taken its toll on everyone in Chase. While being on alert can be scary, Chase has fared well so far thanks to the great work of many agencies and individuals.

On behalf of all of Council I would like to thank Chase Fire Rescue, Adams Lake Indian Band fire department as well as CP Rail’s water train for their continued efforts to assist BC Wildfire to reduce the threat of fire to the East of Chase. In addition, a big thanks to the Pritchard Fire department and the Ashcroft Fire Department for helping with structural protection and being available to provide fire protection to Chase while our crews were assisting with the wildfire efforts.

I would also like to thank the Village of Chase staff as well as the TNRD for their support. Additionally, thank you to the RCMP for their continued efforts in managing a most challenging situation. I especially want to thank the community members and groups who have gone above and beyond to help those who have been impacted by the fire. The efforts of everyone just shows what great community spirit we have.

At the time of writing this letter, the Village remains on evacuation Alert. While I am very hopeful we will come out of this okay, until more of the active fire to the East of us is contained, we need to be ready, while staying positive.

As with all other local governments, during an emergency event, the e l e c t e d officials step back while the staff members do the work that is required under the local government emergency response model, including informing the community of evacuation Alerts.

I as others feel truly sorry for those in other nearby communities that have not fared so well. Our hearts are with you.

Arm Bands Urge Patience for Refs

As part of this program, Local Referee in Chief, Lee Melvin and other Executive Members will be at the rink supervising the development and providing feedback to these young officials in a positive manner. We do not want our officials being yelled at, it does nothing for their development as an official or a human being. “These new Officials are usually children most of the time, and yelling at or intimidating children, or any volunteer is not acceptable in Chase Minor Hockey” said Melvin.

Melvin continues, “we are a small

association trying to develop officials from within. Please be patient and understanding that you cannot develop a referee overnight.”

CMHA Executive reminds parents and fans that It takes time, instruction, games and coaching to develop officials, same as it takes to grow players. CMHA reminds you that if you see a referee wearing a green arm band, encourage them rather than critique them. Cheer them instead of yelling at them. And remember this is a game, played by children.

A Celebration of Community Support & Spirit submitted by Brock Endean

The culmination of the Village of Chase Lakeside Music Series, marked by the final evening of Music on the Lake, was met with resounding success and an overwhelming display of community support. The last-minute Wildfire Relief Fundraiser, not only drew the participation of over 1,000 enthusiastic attendees but also resulted in a remarkable achievement of raising more than $11,500 in generous donations.

The evening’s festivities commenced with a spirited performance by The Liz Blair Project, originally slated for August 22nd. Their high-energy set at 6pm set the tone for an evening of musical excellence.

Subsequently, the stage saw the talents of Ben Klick, Tanner Dawson, and their exceptional circle of collaborators, who delivered a dynamic and interactive performance that captivated the audience.

The series concluded with door prize draws, a fitting reward for those who actively engaged throughout the summer by collecting stamps. It is with great pleasure that we extend our congratulations to Patricia Simpson,

Heather Strack, Donna R., Bobby Burke, Erin Marshall, and Penny Hanna, the deserving winners of this year’s door prizes.

As we reflect on the resounding success of Music on the Lake and the broader Village of Chase Lakeside Music Series, we must express our sincere gratitude to the dedicated volunteers of the Chase & District Festival Society.

Their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts were instrumental in orchestrating a summer of exceptional events that brought the community together.
