T
ARCHERY DAY he Chase and District Fish and Game Club had a great turnout at their Friends and Family Archery Day at the range on October 30th. The event was considered a huge success, with a good crowd attendence. There were many beginners from really little, maybe 3 years old, to seniors. There were 3D targets to try on as well as static target stations. It felt great to be back doing something together. Everyone commented they had a great time. We feel we would like to do it again.

Conditions change. So should your speed. Slow down submitted by Road Safety at Work
Winter driving can more than double your risk of being in a crash in B.C. Conditions change and so should your speed. Slowing down can save your life – and the lives of others on roads in and around Chase. The following tips from ShiftIntoWinter. ca can help you drive safely in winter for pleasure and for work. They can also help you avoid a $167 ticket and threepoint penalty for driving too fast for the conditions. Slow down and maintain a safe following distance It’s safer to drive below the posted speed because it takes longer to stop on a slippery road. Keep plenty of distance between you and other vehicles -- at least four seconds. Watch for black ice Slow down when approaching icy areas such as shaded spots, bridges, and overpasses. These sections of road freeze sooner than others in cold weather. Black ice can cause your vehicle to suddenly lose control when you brake or corner. Avoid sudden moves Accelerate gradually
to
maintain
traction and avoid spinning your wheels. When stopping, plan well in advance, apply the brakes gently, and slowly add pressure. Anticipate turns, stops, and lane changes well before they occur. Know how to handle a skid Ease off the brake or accelerator and look where you want the vehicle to go, then steer smoothly in that direction. Be careful not to over-steer. If you are on ice and skidding in a straight line, step on the clutch or shift to neutral. Be cautious around snowplows and salt or sand trucks Maintain a safe following distance. These vehicles throw up snow and spray, making it difficult to see. Never pass on the right. The 13th annual Shift into Winter awareness campaign is supported by the Winter Driving Safety Alliance and managed by Road Safety at Work. The main sponsors are WorkSafeBC, Government of BC, Justice Institute of British Columbia, BC Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association, and Insurance Corporation of BC.

ICE CAPADES – CHASE HEAT HOCKEY STYLE by Scott Koch
Your Chase HEAT split a pair of games this past weekend. They also added a Beaumont Alberta player by the name of Dylan Handel who had been skating with the Melville Millionaires of the Junior A SJHL. He is showing early signs of being a Grade A addition. The local crowds are increasing as hockey fans get use to the ability to watch in person some entertaining ice capades hockey style. So Friday night the 29th the boys travel in to the Olympic size ice of MacArthur Park to face the Kamloops Storm. Zakery Anderson of the STORM pots the only goal in the 1st. He also featured in a 4 men mishmash over the treatment of HEAT tender Jack Osmond, boys being boys. In the 2nd the new guy Handel gets the only goal of the game for the HEAT, assisted by Jarod Sigouin and Owen Dean. Kamloops gets their 2nd goal and in the 3rd a further pair Brayden Haskell finds the final 4-1 for the Loops lads. That makes for a very long ride on a short trip home to Chase. Head Coach Brad Fox says that the STORM are the early season high bar in the Doug Birks Dylan Handel Division. “To beat them in their rink means you have to play right and hard”. Saturday night the 30th of October the HEAT are home at the Art Holding Memorial Arena as they host the Jack Osmond Princeton POSSE. In the 1st Princeton’s Luken Murray gets the scoring started on a text book cross ice through the top of the goal crease tap in. Osmond between the pipes had no chance of getting that beauty. Then the HEAT take over with Brayden “Rascal” Haskell scoring his own beauty. Lucas Ouellette gave him the puck and Haskell
drove to the net making a couple of fancy dance moves before flipping a backhander into the top right corner. Garrett Martin from Braeden Huth and Drew Tkachuk popped in a counter followed by Handel from Bhavin Serown and Sigouin. At the end of the 1st period 3-1 Chase. In the 2nd Haskell got his 2nd from Ouellette and Bryan Fraser, it’s now 4-1 HEAT. In the 3rd Huth from Martin and Tkachuk, followed by Handel from Sigouin and Jacob Biensch led up to the eventual final tally. Haskell unassisted with his team shorthanded tapped in his hat trick goal to make it easy to pick him as the star of this contest. Osmond stopped 31 of 32 pucks fired his way. A treat for the fans prior to Halloween. Haskell from Salmon Arm spent his 16th and 17th year with the HEAT prior to being traded to the Sicamous EAGLES. The HEAT got him back in trade for his final year of Junior to provide leadership, the want to win and grit, the upside beyond that is the latest hat trick. The family also won the 50/50 draw to put icing on the cake on this night. Chase remains in 2nd place behind the STORM, with the Revelstoke GRIZZLIES chomping at the heels of the HEAT. Saturday the 6th of November the Sicamous EAGLES fly into Chase in another round of who is the best in the Shuswap. Don’t hesitate to step into the local Arena, all current protocols are in place and attendees must be double vaccinated and wear a mask. Plenty of space for you and the volunteers are doing a spectacular job of ensuring your wellbeing. Till next time keep your head up and your mask on.

Village of Chase
Infrastructure Meeting Ever wonder about the Village’s physical assets (roads, bridges, water pipes) and how the Village plans for their replacement? As with any amenity, be it a roof or a hot water tank, the Village of Chase owns infrastructure like buildings, sewer pump stations, water treatment facility, park washrooms…and like any piece of equipment, infrastructure must be readily maintained and ultimately replaced at some point in time. Village Council is holding a special meeting on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Community Hall at 4:00 p.m. to hear about the management of the Village’s physical assets. Experts in Asset Management will explain to Council and those from the public who are interested, what asset management is and why it is important. The Council and the public will then hear about various Village’s assets and their condition. We urge anyone interested in your community’s publicly owed infrastructure to attend the meeting either in person or via Zoom.

Museum Project
For many years, the Chase & District Museum & Archives Society has discussed creating something to commemorate local soldiers in addition to these two cenotaphs. Over the last year a project idea was finalized, financial partners were found, and research commenced. As a symbol of recognition of local World War One veterans, the museum board members and curator, Breanne, decided to have street banners created that bear the names of local veterans. The Chase & District Museum & Archives Society, The Chase Legion #107, and The Village of Chase all agreed to finance a third of the design and printing costs of the banners. They will be hung up in Chase annually around Remembrance Day. The focus of this project was World War One veterans, both those who died
during the war and those who survived and returned. Those names that you see on the banners are men who were living in Chase or Shuswap or were members of the Adams Lake Indian Band, Neskonlith Indian Band, or Little Shuswap Indian Band at the time of enlistment. The thirteen men listed on the Chase Cemetery cenotaph were also included. These names were the ones Breanne was able to confirm as meeting these parameters. Breanne would like to thank those members of the public who responded to her calls for information. This project is not considered finished and has been created in such a way to allow for more names to be added in the future, should they be discovered. If you believe you know of another veteran who should be
included please contact Breanne at the museum (chasemuseumsociety@gmail. com or 250-6798847). If you want to know more about any of the soldiers you’re welcome to visit the museum during our open hours. Also, personnel records from World War One have been completely digitized and are available to view and download for free through Library and Archives Canada’s website.

Add all the ingredients except the cream cheese to a 4 quart or larger slow cooker. Give everything a big stir. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3 hours. Remove the chicken and chop into bitesized pieces or use two forks to shred it. Return chicken to the slow cooker and add the cream cheese. Stir everything together until the cream cheese has melted. Taste, then add more salt or seasonings if desired. I usually add a little more chili powder and dried oregano/Italian seasoning blend. Cover the slow cooker and cook for about 10-15 more minutes. Serve warm topped with fresh cilantro, shredded cheese, or crackers. And serve alongside my favorite cornbread or dinner rolls. Cover and store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave.
