By the time this edition of the Sunflower comes out, I will be past the due date for my second child, so I wanted to include an update as to upcoming disruptions in the Sunflower’s schedule.

If I need to, I may skip the December 7th edition. I will then try to put out an issue for December 14th and then take a hiatus around Christmas-time and skip the December 21st and 28th issues around Christmas time, returning for 2019 on January 4th.

BUT depending on what happens maybe I will switch the dates around. It’s confusing, I know. I am confused too. Just watch the newsstands for new issues of the Sunflower as they come, or if you “like” The Chase Sunflower on Facebook you can stay in the loop.

I want to get at least one more issue out

before Christmas because I know how important the Sunflower is for community groups and businesses to get the word out to the community, but I would also like to try my best to have a baby-moon and spend as much time as possible bonding with this new human.

With that in mind, the best way to reach me over the next few weeks would be through email (info@chasesunflower.ca), or if you wish to drop something off for me, you can leave it at Willows Health Food Store at 729 Shuswap Ave. Most of the services the Sunflower provides should be able to be accomplished through email or through the help of Joanne at the Willows.

Obituary

Th o m a s A le xand e r F ra s e r August 2, 1928 – November 18, 2018

We all have heavy hearts at the passing of our loving father, Thomas Alexander (TA) Fraser on November 18, 2018 but as sad as it is to say goodbye, our hearts are happier knowing that he is no longer in pain and that he has gone to be with his beloved wife Adeline (Addy) Fraser who left us on April 10, 2018.

Thomas is survived by daughter Diane Sanford, sons Robert Fraser, Ronald Fraser, and David Fraser; by son-in-law Donald Sanford; by daughters-in-law Francis Fraser, Sherry Fraser, and Trisha Fraser; by granddaughter Shawna Gip; grandsons Scott Fraser, Jeff Fraser, Brian Fraser, Terry Fraser and Quinn Fraser; by great grandsons Alexander Fraser and Rylan Fraser and by his brother, Patrick Fraser.

Tom drove Greyhound for 10 years out of Penticton, BC then went to work as a Fish and Wildlife Officer and Superintendent for 26 years in Golden, BC and Smithers, BC. Tom had belonged to Kinsmen and Masons; and refereed hockey and umpired fast ball.

Tom spent lots of time in the outdoors often fishing and hunting with his sons and his friends. Family time was spent at mountain cabins rowing peacefully around the lake, hiking and roasting wieners and marshmallows on outdoor fires.

After Tom retired, he and Adeline spent 4 years on their boat on the west coast where Tom worked for the Federal Fisheries; a job that he simply loved. After the coast job was finished, Tom and Adeline spent 16 winters in Yuma, Arizona where they participated in the RV park events, golfed, swam, walked and biked in the park. They made many friends and thoroughly enjoyed their time in the sunshine.

Due to health issues, Tom and Adeline moved into the Hamlets at Westsyde Care Facility in 2013, then moved to the Active Care Senior Services in 2015 and resided the last three years in the Blueberry unit at the Overlander Care Home in Kamloops, BC. The care the staff gave Tom was exemplary and greatly showed after he returned from RIH on November 9th after spending 3 weeks with a blood infection. Upon returning to Overlander, Tom was moved into Orchard Grove where he received a lot of love, attention and excellent medical care until the very end.

Tom and his family greatly appreciates the care and love he received from the staff in both the Blueberry and Orchard Grove wings of Overlander. Thank you all so very, very much. You are amazing.

Council Meeting Highlights Regular Meeting - November 27, 2018 submitted by Village of Chase

A public hearing was held to hear from anyone whose interest in property is affected by the implementation of land use designations on three portions of property along Aylmer Road that used to be owned by CP Rail, have been surplus to their needs, and were subsequently sold to the Village of Chase.

Council heard from several individuals whose interest in property is affected.

Council heard from Ezra Lipton, of ALTA Planning & Design regarding the status of the Village’s Active Transportation Plan. Mr. Lipton explained the proposed network, the public engagement process and how each area is prioritized in the plan. He noted that walking and cycling are very popular in Chase and community members want safe ways to travel by bike and on foot throughout the entire community. The plan includes a proposed walking network, a cycling network and some steps for achieving the implementation of the necessary infrastructure.

* Council deferred their decisions on the three OCP Amendment Bylaws pertaining to the former CPR rail lands along Aylmer Road pending clarification of Council’s powers relating to those lands * Council approved the road closures for the Chase Country Christmas parade * A letter from the Royal Canadian Legion thanking Council for its support of the recent poppy campaign and 2018 Remembrance Day ceremony was received as information * Council received a letter from Zilly Palamar indicating that they would not be providing her with a rebate on her sewer charges because of sewer lagoon odours * Council appointed Ron Betts of TreeTop Flyers as the Village’s tourism sector

* Administration was directed to investigate the costs and needed equipment to live stream council meetings

* A letter of congratulations to Mayor and Council from the BC Premier, John Horgan was received as information * Council passed a resolution to support the Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band’s Joint Forest Enhancement Opportunity to mitigate fire risk on the lands around the Adams Lake Lumber Mill * Council approved a co-application from the Village of Chase and the Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band for the Community Resiliency Investment program that, if approved will enable the Village of Chase to obtain various deliverables including a Community Wildfire Protection Plan * Council referred the request from the Chase Hamper Society for a grantin-aid back to Administration to obtain financial information before Council makes a decision about the request * Council received for information a request from the First Nations Hockey and Skate Day for a grant-in-aid for their January 2019 event During the section of the agenda that permits the public to speak on municipal matters, comments were made regarding whether Council would consider one meeting a month taking place at a later time of day, that grants-in-aid need to be considered carefully as they come out of taxpayer’s funds, and that it is a challenge for some local service clubs to pay the costs of the Community Hall rental fees when they are attempting to fundraise for various needs in the community.

Council’s next meeting takes place on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 starting at 4 p.m.

Chase & District Fish & Game News: December from Helen Dalin secretary

It has been a quieter few months for the Chase and District Fish and Game Club since our Open House in August. Since the Open House we’ve had one work bee at the range and winterized and painted parts of the clubhouse. The Trap and Skeet club and the rifle range are still open during the fall and winter months, but the archery targets have been put away for the winter months.

The range does still get a lot of use during the fall and winter. Many members come up to sight in their hunting rifles. Others just like to use the rifle range for fun practice, or the pistol portion to practice their shooting. Every member must always sign in when entering and leaving the range, as well as have any guests fill out a guest form. These forms are in the sign in shed.

A membership for the Chase and District Fish and Game Club runs from January to December. You can pick up memberships at Miller’s cabin. You must take an orientation tour of the range with a director if you are a brand new member. This is to learn the layout and the rules before you will receive a gate key. The key and lock is changed every year. What is nice about our range is that with a key you can come and go without depending on others to be there. If you are interested in our club check out our Facebook page and our website. We are always welcoming new members.

If you can show that you have an active membership at another club you can buy an associate membership at CDFGC for half the cost.

Mark your calendars! The CDFGC will be hosting its annual Banquet and dance on February 2nd, 2019 at the Adams Lake

Contest: Ride the Holiday Train Village of Chase will be giving away two free tickets to ride the CP Holiday Train from Chase to Kamloops on Sunday, December 16, 2018. To enter the draw, please go to the Village's Facebook page and write 50 words or less about why you should be chosen with your friend/partner/child to ride the Holiday Train to Kamloops. The winners will be announced at Council's December 11, 2018 Council meeting. (You must be able to board the train at its stop in Chase just after the festivities end, and you will be required to plan your own transport back to Chase from Kamloops)

Gym. Tanner Dawson will be DJ. This is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

There is always silent auction prizes to bid on and there will be a rifle up for a prize with limited # of entries. Tickets for this Banquet would make great Christmas presents! Tickets will be available for sale at Millers Cabin on December 1st. Get your tickets early before they sell out!

Other items to mark on your calendars are some tentative dates have been set for upcoming events. The 3-D archery shoot is scheduled for the May 11th and 12th weekend and the Annual Fishing Derby is scheduled for the June 8th and 9th weekend. Hopefully Mother Nature cooperates and these dates don’t have to be changed.

Trap and Skeet practice continues on the second Sunday of the month all winter.

The next shoot is on December 9th at 10 am. If you are interested in trying out this sport please contact Helen Dalin at 250679-8019 and we can set up a lesson. The CDFGC is working on getting a junior 20 gauge shotgun so that families can come out and try the sport. This shotgun will be small enough for a 10 year old to use. If you don’t own a shotgun we have available shotguns you can borrow to try Trap or Skeet out. Please don’t be shy.

Come out and try this fun sport! We have quite a few ladies coming out now and they love it.

The CDFGC now has about 250 members. Membership renewals will be due in January. New members are always welcome. The CDFGC meets the 3rd Monday of the month at Creekside Senior Center at 7:30 pm. We encourage more members to come to our meetings so that we can get new ideas.

Bantam Broncos Hosting Tournament The Bantam Broncos are hosting a hockey tournament next weekend and would love to have you come out and lend your support! The Bantam team are comprised of 14 kids between the ages of 13 and 15.

The tournament will bring 6 teams from around the province, to the Art Holding Memorial Arena on December 14, 15, and 16th. The Broncos first game is Friday at 1:30 pm and then have their next on

The games are free to attend, but the team will be hosting raffles, 50/50 draws, and selling various items to raise funds for future tournaments and away games. The concession will be open throughout the weekend to grab a bite to eat.

Coach Steve wants to remind the

community that the Broncos represent Chase when they travel to away games and it would be exciting for the young athletes to have some fans watching at their tournament. Coach Steve also mentioned that the goal of some of his players is to play for the Chase Heat in the future.

A Municipal Matter We respectfully suggest that the rather disturbing issues which arose during the Chase municipal election must be resolved in the short term and in the long term. Whether it be pre-vote signage, ineligible voters, no provincial voters’ lists or map of village streets for poll clerks, conducting three different votes at one polling location, or the lack of

constructive action, the operation needs tightening. And an investigation would be in order. With no slight to those elected, many voters are upset, the results remain in question, and the election doesn’t seem to pass the smell test.

Egg muffins are endlessly versatile and a great way to cook breakfast or light lunches for a week. Pesto, ham, and cheese give these an Italian vibe, but you could go allAmerican with ham and cheddar or Southwest with green chiles and goat cheese. Let your imagination guide you!

Ingredients 6 ounces sliced ham 4 ounces soft goat cheese or your favorite cheese, optional ½ cup pesto 12 eggs, 12 paper muffin tin liners

line regular-size muffin tin with paper liners.

Chop ham and cheese into largish pieces.

Distribute chopped ham among muffin cups. Then add a small spoonful of pesto to each cup. Sprinkle in the cheese. Crack a whole egg into each cup.

Bake for about 20 minutes, until the yolks are set but not chalky.

Let stand for 5 minutes. Eat warm or refrigerate for later meals.
