Plant Sale Brings in Funds for Young Learners

he Chase and Area Young Learners Society would like to send a big thank you out to the community of Chase for supporting the sidewalk plant sale fundraiser held this past weekend. Society volunteer, Bev Amundrud set up a beautiful display of bedding plants, flower baskets and decorative p l a n t e r s downtown Chase on Friday and Saturday.

The fundraiser was set up to support the s o c i e t y ’s upcoming spring and s u m m e r programming, including the iRide After School Program, an Art in the Park program, and the EverWild Explorers nature education program.

Bev invited three young entrepreneurs to assist her as well. Jasper and Juniper Hart-Sweetnam and Pia Sungrove have

been working since last fall on their plant businesses: saving seeds, propagation houseplants, and starting bedding plants. They sold the majority of their plants and donated half of their proceeds to the Young Learners.

After advertising the plant fundraiser in the community, Bev was happily surprised to find a lineup of eager customers waiting both mornings.

After selling out on Saturday, she didn’t have enough plants to return as planned for Sunday. Customers were happy to support a good cause and to be able to buy their bedding plants for the season here in town. She was able to raise $883 to donate to the Young Learners, money that will go directly back into programming for kids here in the Village of Chase.

COVID-19 exposure at Chase Secondary School Interior Health is reporting a COVID-19 exposure at Chase Secondary School.

According to the Interior Health school exposure website, the "potential exposure event" was April 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th.

As has been policy, students and staff who may have been in direct contact with the person who tested positive

for COVID-19 are being contacted by health and school officials with further instructions.

If you have not been contacted, health officials say it is still safe for your children to go to school as normal.

If you have questions or concerns about COVID-19, you’re also asked to contact 811.

COVID vaccine appointments accelerating throughout Interior Health Get notified of when to book your COVID-19 vaccine appointments – both your first and second doses – by registering on the provincial Get Vaccinated system today.

Anyone aged 18 and older should register for a notification telling them when it is their turn to schedule their immunization. If you’ve registered once, you do not need to do so again.

Individuals who have already received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine but who have not registered, should complete the Get Vaccinated registration process. This will ensure a notification is sent when it is time to schedule the second dose.

There are three ways to register for notifications: 1.

3-Ingredient Mozzarella Sticks Egg roll wraps Mozzarella string cheese Oil for deep-frying Unwrap the spring roll wrappers and cover with a wet paper towel to prevent drying out.

Pour a little bit of water in a small dish.

Cut each wrap in half. Place 1 string cheese on lower part of the wrap and roll as if you’re rolling a burrito, tucking the ends. Wet the outer edge and seal. Continue on with the rest of the cheese. Don’t stack them on top of each other, place them with a little space in between to prevent sticking to each other.

Preheat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the prepared mozzarella sticks until golden brown, about 3 minutes per batch. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Transfer the fried mozzarella sticks onto a baking sheet, lined with wire rack.

A temporary employment opportunity exists in Public Works for a Labourer.

The temporary labourer will report to and work directly under the guidance of the current Team Lead Hand. The temporary labourer is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and routine semi-skilled manual construction and maintenance tasks that involve considerable physical effort and agility.

Main duties include: • The performance of a variety of labourintensive work including heavy outdoor manual tasks • Cleaning of culverts and drainage ditches as required • The performance of routine repairs and maintenance to street pavement, boulevards, street signs • Operates small machinery on sidewalks • Uses hand tools for routine repairs and maintenance and changing of equipment attachments • Directs traffic, places barricades and warning lights around work projects • Assists with grave digging, installation of headstones, trench digging, backfilling • Cleans up after construction projects or around buildings, easements, clearing and sorting salvage material as required • Education/Experience/Qualifications • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract (air brake endorsement considered an asset) • Three years’ experience with sound knowledge of materials, methods, tools, equipment, practices and standards of public works • Confident with sound judgement • Ability to maintain records, make written and oral reports to co-workers and supervisor • Must be able to deal tactfully and professionally with the public and elected officials • Maintains an excellent quality of service and high degree of accuracy in work The complete job description is available upon request from the Corporate Officer.

The wage for this position is $26.01 per hour.
