hase Minor Hockey hosted the U13 C2 Division Hockey Playoffs here at the Art Holding Memorial Arena, March 10-12!

Mayor’s Report

Moving Forward.

Over the winter I have enjoyed all the activities around the Village. This is what makes Chase such a great place to live.

I hear from people who have recently moved to Chase how friendly and approachable everyone is. Did you know, that half of the people living in Chase have moved here since 2007? am l o o k i n g forward to the completion of the Highway project. It was nice to see the West entrance to our Village has recently been improved.

A good Mayor needs to be a leader with a vision, who is willing to work and connect with everyone. David has successfully collaborated with everyone in the past. During his door to door canvassing, he was eager and interested in meeting the residents of Chase. It was a productive and most rewarding experience for him. David Lepsoe is truly committed to the community he loves and cares about. He is ready to roll up his sleeves and start working with the new council, and the citizens of Chase. Vote David Lepsoe for Mayor of Chase!

There has been a bit of property crime going on. I would like to thank the RCMP for their ongoing efforts in dealing with this issue.

The Chief Financial Officer recently presented preliminary budget numbers. The next upcoming meetings regarding the budget will be the 1st. 2nd reading on April 18th. 3rd reading on May 2nd. Adoption on May 9th. I will have some numbers for you in my next report.

Village of Chase Employment Opportunity

Temporary Labourer - Public Works A temporary employment opportunity exists in Public Works for a Labourer for approximately 6 months.

The Temporary Labourer will report to and work directly under the guidance of the current Team Lead Hand. They are also responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and routine semiskilled manual construction and maintenance tasks that may occasionally involve considerable physical effort and agility. Weekend work may also be required.

Main duties include: • The performance of a variety of labour-intensive work including heavy outdoor manual tasks • Performs a variety of parks and cemetery tasks including but not limited to picking up litter, pulling weeds, cutting brush, raking leaves, watering grass, water flower baskets, operating manual mowing equipment and weed trimmers, and assisting in the maintenance of gardening plots • Cleaning of culverts and drainage ditches as required • The performance of routine repairs and maintenance to street pavement, boulevards, street signs • Uses hand tools for routine repairs and maintenance and changing of equipment attachments • Assists with grave digging, installation of headstones, trench digging, backfilling • Cleans up after construction projects or around buildings, easements, clearing and sorting salvage material as required Education/Experience/Qualifications • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract (air brake endorsement considered an asset) • Three years’ experience with sound knowledge of materials, methods, tools, equipment, practices and standards of public works • Confident with sound judgement • Ability to maintain records, make written and oral reports to co-workers and supervisor • Must be able to deal tactfully and professionally with the public and elected officials • Maintains an excellent quality of service and high degree of accuracy in work The complete job description is available upon request from the Director of Corporate Operations.

The wage for this position is $27.06 per hour. This CUPE position is temporary, full-time hours 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., days of week will vary and will include weekend work.

Council Highlights for March 14, 2023 Meeting submitted by Village of Chase

The Regular Meeting of Council was held on March 14, 2023 at the Village office and via Zoom. 9 people attended in-person.

Pump Track.

Council authorized the usage of a portion of 221 Shepherd Road for the purposes of constructing a pump track to be funded and coordinated by volunteers of the Youth Action Committee on Village property located behind the Art Holding Memorial Arena. Council also directed staff to obtain any necessary agreements or insurance – with an estimated cost not to exceed $800 – and stipulated that any fundraising amounts that exceed the cost of construction be allocated towards insurance and signage costs.

Chase Environmental Action Society – Committee Structure. Council established the Chase Climate Action Committee as a Select Committee of Council and appointed Councillor Herman and Councillor Connett as Council liaisons. Council also directed staff to advertise for five members of the public to sit on the committee and requested that the Chase Environmental Action Society review applications and provide recommendations for Council’s consideration.

Council also directed the CAO to work with members of the new committee to draft terms of reference to be adopted by the committee and forwarded to Council for ratification.

Chase Canada Academy – Support Letter Request.

Council approved the issuance of a letter of support to Harwinder Sandhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors’ Services and LongTerm Care, in support of Chase Canada Academy’s request for $185,000 in onetime seed funding from the province and directed that the letter be copied to the MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson.

Chase & District Chamber of Commerce – 2022 Yearly Report. Council received the Chase & District Chamber of Commerce’s 2022 Yearly Report, which provided an overview of the organization’s activities. Highlights from 2022 included the hosting of a volunteer clean up event in early spring, the operation of the visitor information centre for seven days a week in July and August and the presentation of awards for Citizen of the Year (Ashton Sweetnam), Business of the Year (Village Lanes) and Employee of the Year (Niki Lothrop).

With no further business, the Council meeting concluded at 4:23 p.m.
