Obituary

Maxine Ann Piffl 1966 - 2024

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Maxine Ann Piffl in the early morning on January 6, 2024, at the age of 57 after a hard battle with cancer. Maxine was born March 17, 1966 in Kingston, Ontario to John and Audrey Piffl (both deceased), along with brother Steven Piffl and sister Karen Hughes. Maxine had an adventurist spirit that took her from Ontario to British Columbia in her teens. Maxine will be greatly missed by her beloved husband William Bruce Wheatley, her son Anthony & daughter in law Kristi, brothers Wally Piffle (Lynne) & Bobby Piffl (both in Ontario), sister Linda Lane (Dan Devlin) in Richmond, BC, step daughter Heather Wheatley (Jacob Lysons), three lovely grandchildren Devynn, Nicholas & Mackenzie, sister in laws Margaret Reily (Derek) & Mary Nieuwpoort (Arie) in Ontario. Maxine had a spark in her eye and a kindness in her heart for those who knew her and for those she just met. Maxine will be cremated, and her ashes will be scattered to the places she loved. A Celebration of Life will be held in March 2024. RIP Max - We love you so much

Community Collaboration Initiative Gains Momentum Submitted by Brock Endean & Jane Herman

As we kick off the new year, local not-forprofits and citizens of Chase are forging a path toward a brighter future through a remarkable community collaboration initiative. The initial community meeting held on November 1st convened 45 volunteers representing 35 organizations, each sharing a common goal - to shape the future of Chase, together. The next chapter in this collaborative journey is set to happen on Monday, January 22nd, at 6:30 pm at the Chase Curling Club. One of the primary objectives of the upcoming meeting is to formalize the collaborative structure that will guide our shared actions. While the scheduling for this meeting posed some challenges due to conflicting events this month, the dedication of the participants remains unwavering. A resounding request emerged during our initial meeting - the need for better coordination in scheduling and hosting community events. To address this, we urge all attendees to come prepared to the upcoming meeting with a list of proposed events, activities, or meetings for the year 2024, complete with dates if available. I was riding my bike through the countryside when I was attacked by a herd of sheep. Fortunately, I was only grazed.

These contributions will be added to our community calendar, ensuring a more organized and engaging year ahead. The meeting agenda also includes a dedicated space for sharing projects, infrastructure concepts, or resource ideas. This extends to successful practices from other communities that you believe could enhance the quality of life in Chase. Visual representations such as photos, drawings, or brief write-ups are highly encouraged. Our community thrives on diverse voices and perspectives, and their inclusion is key to our success. For those interested yet unable to attend on January 22nd, please send your calendar information or ideas to a d m i n @ chasechamber. com, and we will ensure they are included at the meeting. As we embark on this collaborative journey, the community’s engagement is not just valued – it is essential. We look forward to welcoming you to the Chase Curling Club for an evening that promises to be filled with inspiration and purpose. Together, let's make 2024 a year of unity, progress, and a flourishing community spirit. I replaced my rooster with a duck. Now I wake up at the quack of dawn.
