Council Meeting Highlights Meeting of Village of Chase Mayor and Council October 11, 2016 Submitted by Village of Chase

Council gave first, second and third readings to a bylaw that will repeal the Neighbourhood Golf Cart bylaw passed in September.

Council wants to obtain more input from the public and work with the Provincial Government to make sure that all aspects of the program can be supported by the majority of community members before the program moves forward.

Council also passed a resolution to ensure the public that the bylaw that was adopted in September will not be acted upon – because the repealing bylaw does not get finalized until later in October, council wanted to provide certainty to the public that the original bylaw will not be acted upon in any way until more consultation is done and input received from the community.

Council gave first three readings to the Permissive Tax Exemption bylaw that will affect the taxes of philanthropic, recreation and public worship organizations in Chase. The exemption will continue for all groups that have been exempted in the past. Council sees the value in the various groups that provide services to our community. Council will be discussing during 2017 budget deliberations the proposal to put a cap on the amount of money allowed for exemptions, however any change will not be in effect for the 2017 tax year.

Village signing authorities were updated to remove the former Deputy Corporate Officer and add the new Corporate Officer, Sean O’Flaherty, as a signing authority for various Village financial transactions.

As always, there must be two authorized signatories on all financial transactions for the Village of Chase.

The Miss Chase Excellence program was granted the use of a Village vehicle with Mayor Berrigan as the driver for the Kamloops Santa Claus parade November 26, 2016 in Kamloops.

Letters stating opposition to the Neighbourhood Golf Cart project were received.

A visitor this summer from Hamilton Ontario communicated how enjoyable her visit to Chase was, and the Ska Cheen Elders thanked Mayor and Council for contributing to their Annual Pow-Wow. Council proclaimed October 17-23, 2016 as Waste Reduction Week in Chase and it was noted that the Mayor had proclaimed October 2016 as Foster Family month in Chase.

The portion of the 2016 Tax Sale pertaining to 738 Okanagan Avenue was cancelled due to an administrative error.

CP Rail announced that they would once again be stopping in Chase with their Holiday Train, with more information to come soon.

A letter regarding trafficking/ sexual exploitation of youth was received, as was a communication from Minister Fassbender regarding ‘ride sourcing’ in BC. Council approved the closure of Shuswap Avenue from Coburn Street to Willson Street on November 11, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the Remembrance Day march and parade.

New Nurse Practitioner in Chase Submitted by Interior Health

There is a new face delivering healthcare services in Chase.

Interior Health is pleased to announce that Nurse Practitioner Keltie Everett has begun practising at the Chase Medical Clinic. Working alongside local physicians and staff, Everett is in the process of orienting to the clinic and community, and will begin seeing a limited number of patients in midOctober.

Everett comes to Chase after working in Kelowna as a registered nurse who specialized in cardiac critical care, and before that in cardiac and emergency services in Winnipeg. She completed the Nurse Practitioner (NP) program at the University of Victoria in July 2016 and is currently a provisional NP working toward her final licensing exam.

Nurse Practitioners are registered

nurses who have additional education at the Master’s level and previous nursing experience. In their daily practice, NPs can diagnose and treat illnesses; order tests; prescribe medications; and, manage, monitor and review chronic health conditions.

NPs are independent practitioners who work with – rather than replace – other health-care providers.

They are part of a team and collaborate with registered nurses, physicians, social workers and others to provide required primary health care.

Initially, Everett will be taking on the patients who were previously cared for

by NP Deborah Lewis, now retired. Her case load will begin slowly and will increase over time while she works toward her final licensing.

Make a pumpkin spice latte at home

Ingredients 2 tablespoons canned pumpkin 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, plus more to garnish Freshly ground black pepper 2 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract 2 cups whole milk 1 to 2 shots espresso, about 1/4 cup 1/4 cup heavy cream, whipped until firm peaks form Equipment Mixer, whisk, or hand blender, to whip cream Saucepan Wooden spoon Whisk Blender Espresso maker or coffee maker

Instructions Heat the pumpkin and spices: In a

small saucepan over medium heat, cook the pumpkin with the pumpkin pie spice and a generous helping of black pepper for 2 minutes or until it’s hot and smells cooked. Stir constantly.

Stir in the sugar: Add the sugar and stir until the mixture looks like a bubbly thick syrup.

Warm the milk: Whisk in the milk and vanilla extract. Warm gently over medium heat, watching carefully to make sure it doesn’t boil over.

Blend the milk: Carefully process the milk mixture with a hand blender or in a traditional blender (hold the lid down tightly with a thick wad of towels!) until frothy and blended.

A BIRD BRAINED WEEKEND

The HEAT from Chase got carried away with Avian stuff this past Long Weekend.

On Friday night the 7th at the local Ice Palace they started by serving up a turkey to local fans. The Summerland STEAM paid a visit and for two periods were sitting ducks, Chase got the lone goal in the 1st, Zachary Fournier from Grady Musgrave and Kaden Black.

In the 2nd, the HEAT kept the fans flapping their wings as Black plopped the giblet into the pot assisted by Fournier and Spencer Farstad.

The 3rd saw the STEAM blow the HEAT out of the sky with 5 unanswered goals, Josh Pilon, Cole Williams, Scott Robinson, Everett Scherger and Braden Eliuk, to claim a 5-2 victory from the locals who laid an egg.

Saturday night the 8th, the HEAT migrated to Sicamous to take on the EAGLES on Shea Weber Drive. Kolten Moore in the 1st got things started assisted by Spencer Meyer and Michael Fidanza. In the 2nd the HEAT did their best impression of the opposition from the previous evening, scoring 5 unanswered goals.

Fournier from Farstad and Black, followed by Black on the power play from Fournier and Sunil Sahota. Michael Howlett

got one from Josh Bourne and Fidanza , Meyer from Nolan Parr and Pat Brady, and then Black with his 2nd from Farstad and Fournier.

In the 3rd the EAGLES attempted to soar scoring a pair from Ethan Trampuh and Tyler Collens, before Bourne for Chase assisted by Brady scored a highlight reel tally.

The end result a 7-2 road kill for the HEAT. Sunday the 9th saw the annual HEAT Family Weekend Birdie, Eagle and #18 Nolan “Bogey” Parr Golf Tournament at rain soaked Sunshore Golf Course.

Nine holes of worm hunting destroyed the links as the flappers and hackers whacked their ways to the Clubhouse.

At the end, as the sun went down and everyone roosted, a succulent turkey or two plus all the trimmings was served up to the congregated flock.

BIRD BRAINS: The HEAT are on the road next weekend versus the COYOTES in Osoyoos and the POSSE in Princeton.

Next home game on the 22nd versus the GRIZZLIES from Revelstoke.
