illage of Chase Mayor and Council has been listening to the community over the past few weeks regarding the NGC Pilot project. Feedback that has been provided by members of the Village of Chase was shared with Minister Todd Stone at UBCM in Victoria last week. As a result of that sharing of information, the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone has issued the following statement to the communities of Chase and Qualicum Beach on the province’s Neighbourhood Vehicle pilot program.

“I’m writing today to thank the mayors and councils of the Village of Chase and the Town of Qualicum Beach for joining with the Province in a pilot project to bring neighbourhood golf carts safely to British Columbia streets. “This program was designed to provide people, particularly seniors, with more transportation options so they can stay engaged in their community and access services that make their lives better. And the Village of Chase and the Town of Qualicum Beach have been great partners as we pilot this idea in both those communities. Continued on page 3

Neighbourhood News: Chase kid raises $$$ for rod

by Cavelle Layes A six-year-old Chase boy is doing everything he can to earn the money for a new fly rod, and after a few days he has almost reached his goal. Jesse Johnson has been fishing since he was three-years-old and he simply loves it. “My favourite times are the funny ones,” Jesse said. Like when I fought four and my Dad and Oma caught nothing.” Jesse has already eyed out the fly rod he would like, but the price tag said $300. Jesse’s dad Tim Johnson made a deal with Jesse that if the 6-year-old could make $150, he would pay the other half. “I thought it was better that he wanted

to make money for a fly rod rather than an Xbox,” Tim said. So Jesse set to work. He gathered toys from his room which he no longer wanted, and borrowed some money from his parents. With the money he bought supplies like chips and pop and created a sign. In no time at all Jesse was set out in his front lawn on Brooke Drove with stand selling his items. Continued on page 4...
