Later Time for Some Council Meetings submitted by the Village of Chase
Updates from the Village of Chase Your Council would like to thank as always, those folks in the community that are able to attend Council meetings. We understand that not everyone can attend meetings that start at 4 p.m., so one of our meetings in March and one in April will start at 7:00 p.m. – check our website (http://chasebc.ca) for the 2019 Council meeting schedule. In addition to regular meetings, Council has held one budget meeting and will be engaging in more budget meetings in the coming weeks. Our Chief Financial Officer is preparing the draft operational and capital budgets as our final invoices for services purchased in 2018 come in. The Village’s auditors will be in Chase the third week of February after which we will have verified 2018 expenditure and revenue figures which are used to ensure the 2019 budget is built on sound information. We are still awaiting updated information from BC Assessment as well as information from the Thompson Nicola Regional

District (the fund requisition for services provided by the TNRD) – all those pieces of the puzzle are required to provide a good quality draft budget for Council’s consideration. Budget meetings will be well advertised, and we encourage public attendance at those meetings. Administration continues to provide as much information to Council as practicable, in order to support your elected officials in their roles as policy makers in our community. The roles and responsibilities of elected officials are defined in the Community Charter (Provincial legislation in BC that provides authorities to local governments) and are distinct from the roles of hired management and staff, in order to ensure smooth operations of service delivery in municipalities. Just as different staff in your local coffee shop have different roles, a similar principle guides the direction and ultimate operation of your municipal government. Continued on page 5...
