session will consist of 8 lessons beginning on Jan 9th and running until Mar 6th (No class Monday Feb 20-Family Day). Hamper Society News submitted

‘Tis the season for giving and our volunteer elves at the Food Bank are busy doing just that! Collecting, planning and preparing the Christmas Hampers to be given out on December 21 to those who need a little extra help making the dollars stretch to cover the rent, gas, heating, gifts and food this Season, is a BIG JOB! As always, we depend SO much on the help and donations from Chase and area residents! The past couple years have been very difficult for a lot of people, and we are seeing many new clients, with a noticeable increase the last 3-4 months in particular, of all ages, including many with little ones, who need a bit of help to have a Christmas meal on the table and a present under the tree!

YOU can help us do this again!

Your generous donation of food, or funds to purchase, not only helps at Christmas, but will keep our shelves full into the New Year! Our little Food Bank has seen a huge increase in need, more so than any other in BC! BC Food Banks data shows a 148% increase year over year, for our area, and the demand has continued to rise this year!

When you see it on TV news, and hear it spoken of in the house of Commons, you know this is a big deal!

Food donations can be dropped off at either Pharmachoice or Safety Mart, any time. Dec 9 is the Chase Heat’s Toy Drive for the Toy Shop, and Dec 10 is their Food Drive! Many thanks to the Heat again!

Dec. 16 the Holiday Train will once again arrive to entertain everyone, and support the Food Bank! The Food Bank van will be there to accept your food or financial donations! The RBC and Interior Savings Credit Union can take donations and issue a receipt as well. Or, call us at 250682-6155, Please help us continue Chase and area’s tradition of generosity!

Our last Hamper Registration day is Monday, Dec 12, 1-3PM at the Hall. If you or someone you know are in need of a Christmas Hamper, please come in on Monday, or phone us at 250-682-6155.

The Senior Tree at Eye Candy is up and ready for any and all gifts destined for Seniors. In the past, we have found socks, gloves,scarves, candy and chocolates, mugs with pkgs of hot choc, tea, coffee, playing cards, writing paper with stamps, etc!

CP Holiday Train returns to the rails in support of community food banks after two-year hiatus Press Release

​The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train will return to the rails this season on its first cross-continent tour in three years, following virtual concerts in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.

The train will again raise money, food and awareness for local food banks in communities along the CP network.

“I’m grateful to the CP team members who adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver two exceptional virtual Holiday Train shows and to all those who continued to donate while we kept community members safe,” said Keith Creel, CP’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “The Holiday Train is all about families and communities coming together to celebrate the season and help those in need. We are excited to be back out on the rails and in our communities, taking these two beautiful trains across our network and sharing the joy that comes with gathering in the spirit of giving.”

Live music is essential to the CP

Holiday Train experience. This year’s performers will include Alan Doyle, Tenille Townes, Mackenzie Porter and Lindsay Ell, to name a few. Details about this year’s artists and which performers will play which shows are available at cpr. ca/holidaytrain.

Holiday Train shows are free to attend. CP asks attendees to bring a cash or non-perishable food donation if they’re able.

Local food shelves will set up collection stations at each event, with all donations made staying with the local food bank to help people in need in the community. Because local food shelves buy food at a discount, cash donations can go further than food donations to help those in need.

In Chase the Holiday Train will be across from the RCMP Station on Friday, December 16th at 2:30 pm.

Since the Holiday Train program launched in 1999, it’s raised more than $21 million and collected 5 million pounds of food for community food banks across North America.

“This year, more than ever, the support, awareness and goodwill that the CP Holiday Train brings will make an impact beyond imagination to the food support programs of East Side Neighborhood Services,” said Mary Anstett, Vice President, Community Engagement for East Side Neighborhood Services in Minneapolis. “With the support that Holiday Train brings in, we can rest assured that so many will have warm nutritious food on their tables in the coldest months.”

I appreciate each and everyone of you.

A little update on my grandson born on October of 2020 weighing 1 lb 7 oz. in B.C. Women’s Hospital.

Mason is now 20 pounds, full of energy and is a typical 2 year old “Always into something” Doctors say he’s on the upper curve of development and growing.

My son stayed at Ronald McDonald House every weekend for

3 months to be close to his wife and son, with no cost to him. In 2021 I decided to raise money to give back to this amazing place in helping others that need a place to stay to be close to their loved ones.

My annual contributions to Ronald McDonald House grows with all of us contributing to this worth while cause in helping others for a home away from home, relieving some of the stress.

TRADE TRAIN PASSED THROUGH TOWN submitted by Scott Koch

A few weeks back it was mentioned the trade train may provide some much needed help for our Heat.

Well low and behold changes have been made and time will tell if the mathematical processes of addition and subtraction provide a winning solution.

Two of the additions were already part of the team but were rehabbing long term hockey related aches and pains. Goalie Meyer Gaume has moved back into the crease and 20 year old forward Jarod Sigouin is a welcome addition upfront. Along with those two positives, forwards Hudson Ketsa, Kaleb Preymak and Tyson Tokarz have fit seamlessly into the lineup.

In the past week there were 3 road games on the docket, but the November 30th rodeo in 100 Mile House was postponed due to weather. Saturday night the 3rd of December was a short trip west to Kamloops to face the Storm. This contest lasted 9 minutes short of 3 hours due to a fair dose or two of mayhem. It didn’t have to go that way but less then 8 minutes in Jalen Davidson was knocked cold by an unpenalized ugly head contact that put him in the hospital. That resulted in an unscheduled melee that bubbled under the surface all game long. Perhaps that team unity will be the spark for more positive results to come. Gaume stopped 34 of 38 to keep his team in this one, the end result a 4-0 loss.

Sunday afternoon in Sicamous the Heat faced off versus the Eagles.

With a depleted roster due to injuries and suspensions from the night before a valiant effort was put in by the Chase crew. Outshot 56 to 23 Gaume once again kept his team in the game. The 1st ended 1-0 Eagles. In the 2nd Sigouin scored a beauty unassisted, but Sicamous countered, after 40 it was 2-1. In the 3rd period Kieran Armitage from Tokarz and Maddex Bignell tie the game. The Eagles popped in a pair of goals but late in this one Sigouin proved his worth assisted

by Mikkel Hrechka and Tokarz to make it close. 4-3 loss, but the weekend brought light to the long dark tunnel the team has endured recently.

Preymak came in trade from Revelstoke Grizzlies and brings much needed grit and energy.

Tokarz was traded from the Grand Forks Border Bruins and is smart, skilled and currently the Heat’s leading scorer. Ketsa fit into the lineup immediately and works hard every shift.

Next on the schedule the Osoyoos Coyotes are at the Art Holding Memorial Arena this Friday the 9th. The Sicamous Eagles fly in Saturday night the 10th for rematch and last but not least the Grizzlies from Revelstoke arrive in Chase Tuesday the 13th. The new and improved Heat will be waiting for all three foes. It’s a nice stretch of home games and hockey hounds should take advantage of attending one or more of these humdingers!

The Village of Chase provides grants-in-aid to non-profit community groups who demonstrate a funding need for a service or program that will benefit the community and local area.

The deadline for application submissions for the 2023 grant in aid is January 6th, 2023.

A PASTORAL PERSPECTIVE:

The Great Glad Tidings Tell

We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel!”

Venture past your front door and you’ll soon realize what time of year it is. The snow and cold, lights and decorations bring back memories of years gone by. We remember the togetherness, a togetherness that brings warmth and comfort; that brings happiness and love.

These memories are good and are something to be grateful for.

But for many of us, these memories also come with the discomfort that things are not as they once were.

Even in the midst of happy times memories remind us of experiences that are no more. This year was the first year that I placed a Christmas decoration on our family’s tree that belonged to my father, who passed away last year. In the midst of celebrating with my young family, I remembered the relationship I miss.

But it is exactly for these sorts of experiences, this darkness, that Christmas exists. Christmas is the celebration of everything being turned upside down, of everything sad coming untrue. And it all starts with the most upside event you could imagine, a virgin giving birth to a baby boy. All the brokenness, all the separation begins to be put back

together again because of this one significant baby, born in a completely insignificant place, surrounded by insignificant people; as the carols remind us, a little town surrounded by scruffy and smelly shepherds.

We gather, we celebrate because —as the carol above reminds us— our Lord, our King and creator has come to us, to abide with us, to live life with us and as Emmanuel— a Hebrew word directly meaning “with us is God”. Being together we experience warmth and comfort, happiness and love, but when that “together-ness” includes someone bigger than ourselves, someone who created all that we know, these experiences come into fullness, completeness.

So, whether this Christmas is filled with light and happiness or darkness and challenges — or somewhere in-between— you are welcome to gather, to enjoy togetherness as our church celebrates on Christmas Eve the good news of great joy for all people. All are welcome and come just as you are. We will light candles and sing familiar songs, as we remind ourselves of the hope of Christmas.
