Life's a Beach at Memorial Park

f you’ve been to Memorial Park lately in Chase you may have noticed a colourful menagerie of animals from swans to dragons. The creatures are of the inflatable variety and they are available to rent by the hour along with inflatable paddle boards, kayaks, water games, loungers and themed islands.

Community Bulletin Chase Library Yay, we have reopened.

We will be happy to continue our takeout service for those who are still interested in keeping their safety and wellness circles small.

There are some safe distancing measures in place when you visit the branch and hand sanitizer available as you enter.

There is limited occupancy, so we are asking people to check with staff when they arrive, if it is okay to proceed inside.

Staff are safely adorned with masks/face shields and we are closing the branch once, midday to clean!

We ask that patrons return all items into the outdoor bookdrop before entering the library.

Chase

Visits are limited to one hour per person and 45 min on the Internet daily.

Printing, scanning, copying, WiFi are all available. Cash accepted, exact change appreciated.

The public restrooms are not available at this time.

60th Wedding Anniversary:

Ron and Grace Fox were married in Telkwa, BC on Aug 20, 1960.

They raised their 4 children in Quesnel, BC while owning and operating a building supply store and hobby farm.

On retirement, they moved to Sidar BC where they fulfilled a life-long dream to live in the Kootenies and homestead. It was a project of love that they sadly left in order to move closer to their children.

Ron and Grace have lived in Chase for the past 13 years and have enjoyed building close friendships and community with their neighbours, within their church and through their involvement with the Seniors’ Centre. Thank you to everyone who has blessed their lives in Chase. They will be quietly celebrating the occasion with their children and are grateful for your well-wishes.

Obituary

Sanford Kenoras

On August 1, 2020 Creator God called Sanford to be the 9th man on the roster for a heavenly baseball game.

Sanford was a long time resident of Chase and member of the Adams Lake Indian Band. He worked many years at Holdings now known as Interfor.

Sanford's passion was baseball, he was a back catcher. In his later years he still travelled and supported the teams and players namely; Lakers, Rebels, Black Sox, Thunder, Prowlers to name a few.

It only seemed fitting to bid farewell to Sanford at the ball field; Lone Pine Stadium on the Adams Lake Reserve.

His legacy he leaves are his grandchildren; Debbie, Adam, Jesse, Daniel, Breyanna, Katelynn, Karina, Theoren, Tristan, Cassius, Presley and several great grandchildren. His children Jamie, Lissa, Chris and Lynn (Craig). His sisters Evelyn, Doreen, Sadie and brother Art (Alice).

The family of Sanford wish to thank everyone for their support during this time.

Georgianna Olive (Griffith) MacKenzie

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Georgianna Olive (Griffith) MacKenzie, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandma, great grandma, aunt and very special friend.

Georgie passed away on August 7th 2020 at the age of 80. She was born in Edmonton, AB November 25,1939.

Georgies childhood was spent in Flatbush, AB after many moves within BC she graduated in Chilliwack with her eye on Wes, her high school sweetheart, who she married Oct 10, 1959. They lived in Chilliwack, Sacramento Calif. back to Sardis, spending a short time at Neds Creek ranch in Pritchard before a final move to Chase where they resided for the past 50 years. Chase residents will fondly remember her from working at McLeods Hardware and at Doctor Vagyi’s office for many years. She enjoyed and made many friendships riding her horse Dan, playing baseball, hockey, curling and bowling. Mom was an enthusiastic supporter of activities for her children/ grand children and great grand children.

She was an active member of her church, enjoying the fellowship and many friendships created there.

As a member of the Chase quilting club she made many, many quilts for family, friends and charity.

She was very hard working, dedicated and loved by all. She loved to give and receive hugs and had an infectious laugh. Mom was a very caring, generous and giving lady, helping out wherever and whenever she could.

Georgie is lovingly remembered by her husband Wes, four children Tom (Denise) MacKenzie, Bruce (Debbie) MacKenzie, Kelly (Rod) Allen, Cathy (Jayson) Stewart; Sisters Nancy Kurta, Winnie (Roy) Chadsey, Sister-in-law Lila (Donnie) Maynard; Eleven grandchildren, Thirteen great grandchildren Jesse(Courtney) Carter and Emma MacKenzie, Cody MacKenzie, Mike MacKenzie, Murray (Stacey) Neaveh and Braxton MacKenzie, Tyler (Bryce) Hannah and Summer Marshall, Cody (Kirsten) Liam Marshall, Alison (Chris) Mikhayla, Tanner and Noah Fieguth, Tyler (Kaily) Weston and Oaklynn Allen, Cyle (Erika) Hazel Stewart, Colby (Courtney) Stewart and Jaylene Stewart.

Georgie was predeceased by her parents: Andy Griffith and Bernice Reid, brother; Thomas, grandson; Dustin MacKenzie, great granddaughter Macy June Stewart, brother in law Len Kurta and sister in law Lil Scott.

The family would like to thank everyone who kindly contributed and supported Georgie, Wes and family.

Celebration of Life Paul W Relland 1939 - 2020 Paul was born February 2, 1939, left to be with the Lord February 26, 2020.

This is a very sad time for his wife Sharron and his family.

Paul was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, the youngest of 7 children. He married his first wife Judy there and together they decided to move to B.C. He worked at various jobs over the years, including for a time at Mica Dam, near Revelstoke, as a heavy duty mechanic. They had 5 children. Unfortunately, in 1972, they lost their son Mark to leukemia and then a year later, Paul lost his wife Judy and 3 children (Leslie, Jason and his sweet little daughter Simone) in a car accident. He carried on in life with his eldest son Dodd, later marrying his second wife Sharron.

Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man and a good friend to many. Paul devoted many hours volunteering in Chase: COP (Citizens on Patrol), Parkside Assisted Living Center, was Vice-President of Creekside Seniors Center and President at the time of his passing. He had just received a lifetime membership at Creekside 2 months ago.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Sharron, son Dodd and wife Maureen, granddaughters Emily (Drew), Erin (Ben) and Megan and great-grandson Caleb, all of Langley, and his sister Suzanne of Nipawin, Saskatchewan, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life will be held on August 22nd at 1 pm at the Chase Community Hall, Chase, B.C. For more information, contact Sharron Relland at 250-679-1183.

Obituary David Henschke March 1, 1941 - July 30, 2020 David passed away peacefully with family. He leaves behind his wife Eunice of 43 years, daughter Lisa Wilson, son Keith Henschke, and many other family members. He can rest in peace now. He was loved and will be remembered.

It’s been at least 5 months since a non weather related article has been written regarding “OUR” Chase Heat Hockey Club. So, it’s time to dust off cobwebs, and there is lots of them hanging around our homes, and update anyone interested.

Much like the coo coo cooing of the morning doves that starts out calming and ends up irritating, we must coo coo

coo about the necessity of billet homes.

This is the time of each and every year that we ask, suggest, twist arms and end up begging for billet homes such that we can provide food and shelter for the players. If this isn’t the most important necessity it is close to the very top on the requirement list. Without any obligation please take the opportunity to ring up

A quick survey of roadside ditches and overgrown meadows will tell you; Chicory is in full bloom! You either love or hate this light blue blossomed roadside weed. I love it, but for some it can be an unwelcome garden interloper! Do you know the best way to deal with unwanted weeds? Well, if they're edible, I say let them eat weeds!! You might be familiar with chicory coffee, and it is by far the most common way it is used. Roasting the root gives it a bitter, slightly nutty flavour.

It can add a robustness to your morning cup of joe, or use it alone or in combination with roasted dandelion root for a caffeine free coffee substitute! Go ahead and throw a little cream and sweetener of choice in with it, life is meant to be enjoyed! You can also enjoy the petals, added to salads, pastas, or on cakes, it can add a lovely pop of colour! In addition to the root and flowers, the leaves are also edible! Toss a few in salads, or sautee as you would spinach. The leaves can be quite bitter, like dandelion leaves, and that should be of no surprise since they are members of the same family, asteraceae! Harvesting the leaves in early spring or late fall helps to cut down on their bitter flavour, as does blanching!

Be mindful when harvesting

your chicory, it is best to not pick directly from the roadside or along the tracks as pesticides and car exhaust and runoff are usually found there as well.

Here is a tasty little recipe I found from www.anitalianinmykitchen.com.

So go ahead, and enjoy those free foraged greens!!

Ingredients: 1 bunch chicory (1 pound /500600 grams) 2-3 tablespoons olive oil 1-2 cloves garlic chopped 1/2 teaspoon salt pinch of hot pepper flakes (if desired) Instructions: Wash leaves and cut in half (or leave whole), cook in boiling water (unsalted) until tender but not mushy, drain well.

In medium frying pan add olive oil and garlic, then add the chicory, salt and hot pepper flakes, toss gently, heat 1 -2 minutes on medium heat. Serve immediately, with a squeeze of lemon if desired. Enjoy!

TRANSPORT TRUCK VS CONCRETE BARRIER On July 12th, 2020 at 2:18 am, Chase RCMP were advised of a single vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway at Hoffman's Bluff near Pritchard, BC. A westbound transport truck hauling an enclosed trailer, struck the beginning of the concrete dividing barrier and continued to scrape along the barrier for approximately 250 metres. All of the tires on the driver's side of both the truck and trailer were shredded. The driver, a 29 year old male from Edmonton, said he hit the barrier because he blew a tire. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to maintain his lane.

MOTORCYCLE VS DEER On July 14th, 2020, at 10:07 pm, Chase RCMP responded to a report of a motorcycle collision on Squilax Anglemont Road in Lee Creek. The motorcycle driver, a 25 year old male from Notch Hill, was travelling southbound when he struck a deer that crossed in front of him. He suffered broken ribs and road rash in the collision and was transported to hospital by ambulance for further treatment of his injuries.

TRUCK VS BANK On July 16th, 2020 at 5:00 pm, Chase RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision on Holding Road, near the community of Adams Lake. Witnesses reported a red GMC truck went off the road and down a 60 foot embankment.

Police and ambulance attended. The driver and only occupant, a 48 year old male from Adams Lake, was trapped inside the vehicle with minor injuries. Chase Fire Rescue assisted in removing him from the vehicle.

The cause of the crash was undetermined.

CAR VS TREE On July 15th, 2020, Chase RCMP were on route to an assault file in Magna Bay when they encountered an oncoming Nissan Pathfinder travelling at a high rate of speed; over 120 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre speed zone on Squilax Anglemont Road. By the time police turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, it had crashed into a tree. The

driver, a 54 year old male from Kamloops, suffered minor injuries which were treated at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

Breath samples were obtained, which determined the driver to be impaired by alcohol. He was released from police custody with a court date in Kamloops Provincial Courthouse and will be facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

MAGNA BAY ASSAULT On July 15th, 2020 at 7:08pm, Chase RCMP responded to a report of a male punching a female in the head. The incident occurred on Squilax Anglemont Road in the Magna Bay area. The couple was associated to a red truck, towing a camper and appeared to be travelling with a dog that jumped out and ran off during the incident. The matter is still under investigation and Chase RCMP would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident. File 2020-1663 refers.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY On July 15th, 2020, Chase RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance at a seasonal residence on Hilliam Frontage Road in Scotch Creek. Residents reported that they observed a male paddle up to the residence on a stand-up paddle board.

He cut the screen window on the porch of the residence and entered the porch area.

Some items appeared to have been moved inside the porch but nothing was missing and access was not gained to the house itself. The paddle board was abandoned on the beach nearby. Police attended and conducted extensive patrols but were unable to locate the male.

SCOTCH CREEK THEFTS: On July 15th, 2020, Chase RCMP were advised of a theft from a seasonal residence in the 4000 block of Squilax Anglemont Road in Scotch Creek. Stolen items included an "Easy Go Green", battery operated golf cart and an orange and blue "Jimmy Sticks" paddle board. The golf cart is quite distinctive as it has Dale EARNHARDT stickers on it and special oversize aluminium rims.

On July 16th, 2020, Chase RCMP Detachment were advised of the theft of two stand-up paddleboards from the Deodar Road area of Scotch Creek.

Later that day, Chase RCMP received a second report of stolen paddleboards, also from the Deodar Road area of Scotch Creek.

THEFT FROM LOGGING SITE On July 27th, 2020 at 6:11 am, Chase RCMP were advised of a theft from a logging site on Bruhn Creek Forest Service Road in Adams Lake. Stolen items included a white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was being used as a medical vehicle and contained expensive medical, recovery and protective equipment. Also stolen from the site were computer control systems, radios, lights, cameras and monitors. This matter is still under investigation.

PADDLEBOARDS AND BEAR SPRAY On July 16th, 2020, at 2:34 am, Chase RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon in the Lee Creek area. The victim reported that he was driving on Squilax Anglemont Road when he came across a blue, older model Chevrolet S10 pickup. The vehicle was stopped on the side of the road. A male and female appeared to be attempting to secure approximately six stand-up paddle boards in the box of the truck. The victim stopped and made a comment to the couple, which suggested they had stolen the paddle boards. The male apparently took offence to this comment and bear sprayed the victim. The victim attempted to drive away, but couldn’t see very well and was forced to stop further down the road. The suspect couple drove past and bear sprayed him a second time.

The victim managed to take a photo of the couple and their vehicle before he was bear sprayed.

Police located the vehicle in Chase, later that day. There was one paddle board remaining in the vehicle. This paddle board is thought to have been stolen and has not yet been claimed. If this could be your paddle board, please phone the Chase Detachment with a description to claim it.
