Due to the sudden shortage of face masks at the Chase Health Centre and Parkside, the Chase Country Quilters got out their sewing machines and started sewing face masks. Normally when we do a community project we all get together for

the day and sew, but this time every quilter is sewing from her home. We arranged for pickup of all completed masks and made the first on many deliveries today. Thank you everyone working in Health Care.

Obituary Paul W Relland 1939 - 2020

Paul was born February 2, 1939, left to be with the Lord February 26, 2020. This is a very sad time for his wife Sharron and his family. Paul was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, the youngest of 7 children. He married his first wife Judy there and together they decided to move to B.C. He worked at various jobs over the years, including for a time at Mica Dam, near Revelstoke, as a heavy duty mechanic. They had 5 children. Unfortunately, in 1972, they lost their son Mark to leukemia and then a year later, Paul lost his wife Judy and 3 children (Leslie, Jason and his sweet little daughter Simone) in a car accident. He carried on in life with his eldest son Dodd, later marrying his second wife Sharron. Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man and a good friend to many. Paul devoted many hours volunteering in Chase: COP (Citizens on Patrol), Parkside Assisted Living Center, was Vice-President of Creekside Seniors Center and President at the time of his passing. He had just received a lifetime membership at Creekside 2 months ago. Paul is survived by his loving wife Sharron, son Dodd and wife Maureen, granddaughters Emily (Drew), Erin (Ben) and Megan and greatgrandson Caleb, all of Langley, and his sister Suzanne of Nipawin, Saskatchewan, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Society in memory of Paul Relland.

~~~ GROWING YOUR OWN FOOD ~~~ submitted by Chase Environmental Group
Have you ever had sun-kissed, just picked strawberries, raspberries or tomatoes from your garden? Talk about an explosion of flavor! We’re just past the spring equinox where days are equal parts light and dark – what better time to be outside and take notice of things coming to life as the soil warms. Even if you don’t already have an existing garden, it is so easy to dig up a corner of your yard and start growing the simplest of vegetables like peas, radishes, lettuce and kale to mention a few that are cool weather lovers. If you wonder about the amount of labor, not to mention water, it takes to keep a lawn looking good, plough or dig up some of it up and reap the benefit of seeds you have sown. Get the kids involved - they love seeing things grow but their reaction to kale might not get the “yippee” you’d hope for but that vitamin rich ‘green’ fits right in to what we realize is the way to go to maintain or boost our health. Probably one of the easiest vegetables to grow is peas. No big decisions to ponder on this choice as there are 3 basic types: English, snow and sugar snap. After you decide what kind you and your family would most like and you have them in hand, soak some in a container of water for about a week or so and watch as that little sprout makes it’s way out of what was a hard, dried pea. Don’t forget to rinse and give them fresh water every day or so or it’s going to get a little stinky! When you have that perfect sunny spot dug up, plant those sprouting peas about 1-1 ½ inches apart and ¾ to 1 inch deep, cover with soil and pat down as the birds will be watching from above and have been known to dig them up to gratify their hungry tummies. Planting can continue in two week increments with more sprouted peas, spacing them between the greens that have already bumped through the soil. Bonus: you can plant again in
Directions In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Stir in water and oil. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 1012 times, adding a little flour or water if needed to achieve a smooth dough. Let rest for 10 minutes. Divide dough into 8 portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a 7-in. circle. In a greased cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook tortillas over medium heat until lightly browned, 1 minute on each side. Keep warm. Tips • Other fats work in place of olive oil. Traditionalists use lard, but shortening or coconut oil can be used as well. Just cut it into the flour before kneading. Relax springy, hard-to-roll dough by resting it a few more minutes. The key to making tender tortillas: Keep a keen eye on them and adjust cooking time or temp as needed. If they're too crisp, reduce heat a notch, or stop cooking a few seconds earlier. For homemade chips, cut tortillas into wedges and bake at 350 degrees until crisp. Add a touch of oil and seasonings of your choice
