he first of the Chase and Area Young Learners’ Society pollinator gardens was installed at the library just in time for Earth day!

We are using these gardens as an opportunity to showcase some of the plants that can be grown in our area that promote the health and well being of pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Keep an eye out for more garden projects that will be rolling out as the spring progresses.

Neighbourhood Small Grants Applications submitted

Neighbourhood small grants are back, funding the small local celebrations that make Shuswap communities special.

The program is offered through a partnership between Shuswap Community Foundation, Va n c o u v e r Foundation, and the Canadian Mental Health Association – Shuswap / Revelstoke Branch, for distribution.

The NSG Program provides small grants of up to $500 for “projects that build community connections, i n s p i r e neighbourhood pride and make communities more vibrant and welcoming.”

“In 2022, 16 neighbourhoods held events and celebrated where they live.

Some worked together on a beautification

project, some hosted small workshops, or concerts, and many organized their first block party,” says Roger Parenteau, Manager of Shuswap Community Foundation.

“We’re excited to see what the residents dream up this year to make their neighbourhoods an even better place to live.”

Projects that have received grants in years past include movie nights at the park, chilli cook-offs, block parties, community craft nights and more.

This year, applicants are encouraged to pitch ideas that focus on intergenerational, intercultural social togetherness as COVID-19 recovery continues.

Obituary In loving memory of

Linda van Hoof

August 10, 1945 to April 11, 2023 It is with the heaviest of hearts and the deepest of sadness that we announce the passing of Linda van Hoof - wife, Mother, sister, Oma, Aunt, niece and friend.

Surviving Linda is her beloved husband and best friend, Peter.

Her brother Les (Debbie) Hiebert, her children Dianne (Craig) Simmons, Trevor (Fawn) van Hoof, Ali (Jory) Maki, Megan (Keith) Daye, Joanne (Gabriel) Brownlee, Maria (Dennis) Maki and seven loving grandchildren.

Predeceased by her parents Walter and Helen Hiebert and her younger brothers Lance and Larry.

Linda was born in Kitchener Ontario on August 10, 1945 and was raised a proud Mennonite. She spent her childhood moving from town to town and enjoyed sitting on the edge of the highway naming the make, model and year of the passing cars with her brothers.

She could name any car!

Graduating from teacher’s college at 18, and spent many years as a teacher in Ontario which she loved very much. Linda moved to Kamloops, BC in 1977 and raised her family in Westsyde - “Greenacres” was the place to be. Their family home was her treasure.

Teaching catechism and being the Coordinator of Faith Formation for Children at St. John Vianney brought her so much joy and kindred friendships.

Linda’s favourite thing in life was spending time with her family, listening to her brother play music, and going for walks with her beloved dog Rusty and with her “bestie” Joan. Her children and grandchildren were most important in her life, family was everything to her, and because of that she fought cancer for 15 years, with her soulmate at her side, losing her brave and courageous battle on April 11, 2023.

The family held a beautiful, private graveside service and small celebration of life with loved ones on April 21, 2023 in Chase, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating blood, “the liquid of life”, on Linda’s behalf or to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice in Kamloops, a non-profit organization dear to Linda’s heart.

Fish and Game Club News

Well Spring 2023 is a very busy time for Chase Fish and Game Club. There are many projects and activities on the go.

Firstly, great news for the club and community!!!!! The club has managed to get all approvals and permissions from Recreation Sites and Trails BC Recreation Officer Marcia Bennett to install a new dock at Harper Lake in the window of July 15th to August 15th, 2023. We must adhere to all the Water Sustainability Act Conditions that are attached to our permission. Plans at the moment are to try and get the dock installed July 17th, 2023. The club is excited to do this for our community.

Clubhouse renos are now 95% completed. Thank you to William Dalin for coordinating the process. Huge thanks to Joe Wallin and Brian Dobson for their donated work on the electrical.

Thank you to Darryl Adamson, Louis Cassman, Terry Berreth, Gavin Shaw, William Dalin for reno work and Darryl Adamson’s mom from Monte Creek for

donation of cabinets and Darcy and Tina Smith from Chase for a donation of counter tops and Gavin Shaw for donation of a double stainless-steel sink and faucet. With these donations the club was able to do a nice renovation for well under budget.

Plans and work bees to get ready for our two upcoming 3D shoots are well underway. This is a fast-growing sport as this year 273 archers showed up to participate in the Kamloops 3D shoot.

Chase shoot could also have an increased number of archers this year. Archers are coming early to our Chase shoot and staying at the range for a week and then again participating in the 3D Traditional Bow Hunters of BC Provincial Rendezvous we are hosting on the long weekend. The following weekend there is a 3D shoot at the Salmon Arm Fish and Game. Archers plan to stay in the area and travel around to participate in all the local shoots. Great for our local businesses, campsites, and hotel/motels.

This is also a good fundraising activity for our club. Volunteers are required to help in the concession and with set up and clean up.

Another new idea the club is looking into is establishing a knife/hatchet/ tomahawk throwing practice area at our range. The idea came from a member who offered to build the targets and get them set up. We have a place at the range we think could work very well for this activity and it would be another outdoor popular activity that our members could have access to. Stay tuned for more information on this project.

We meet the 3rd Monday of the month at 7 pm at Creekside Senior Center.

Climate Action Committee Are you concerned about Climate Change? Do you want to help by participating in a group to make things better?

We all know every little bit helps! The Village of Chase is inviting you to apply for a position on the Village’s Climate Action Committee.

This is a voluntary position with at least 4 meetings a year being held. You will be asked your opinion on ways the Village of Chase can contribute to making things better in our community to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste, and promote environmental stewardship.

The committee’s discussions will

advise Council on various initiatives, projects and educational opportunities.

The committee members will also be asked to be involved in educational activities that have been approved by Council.

Town Hall Meeting on Crime
